This was my third time visiting Los Chanares and my second time organizing groups of 15+ hunters/friends/family to join me. The most recent trip Feb 24-27 was amazing. All of my guest had a wonderful time. I had wonderful time outside of all the extra Covid requirements to make sure everyone could travel. Yes, the quantity of birds are off from years past but there are still lots of birds non the less (this is just part of hunting). I personally can say there are more then enough birds to shoot, because I now have a shirt that says 3000 club on it. Many others in our group shot a couple 1000 birds each as well. The quality of shooting ranged from easy to extremely challenging depending on where we were placed. After every hunt every came back with smiles on their faces. Because of how the birds are moving we did travel one afternoon about a half hour or so to hunt from the lodge. That afternoon both my friend and I hunting together shot 47 boxs of shells each and both had over a 1000 birds confirmed each. It was an amazing afternoon. Our shoulders and body's were feeling it, but well worth all the fun we had. With that the hunting in my opinion was great and only 1 part of the amazing experience we had. The other part of the experience was the lodge, its staff, the food/drinks and time spent with great friends and my uncle. The service at this lodge is over the top and everyone is extremely friendly. The chef is amazing and kept us all well fed. Whatever we needed, it was taken care of for us. Alex the owner and Juan were very interactive with our group and made sure we were constantly happy. My guest and I had such an amazing time that I have already reserved the lodge next year at this time to do it again.…
Excellent experience! I have been in Los Chanares for over 10 years Once again great trip to go with friends or family, excellent volume shooting, great food and unbeatable service. Flying from Santiago Chile made it easy.
Unfortunately our recent visit to los chanares was not what we were expecting. After waiting 18 months for the covid restrictions to recede we were greeted by the fact that the dove numbers were 90% down and that we would have to travel many hours to find enough shooting. After seeing posts and emails about numbers growing over the last 18 months we were expecting to find numbers on a par with previous visits in 2012,2014 and 2016! As always the hospitality from Juan and his team was excellent. It is a great shame that it was left until we arrived at the lodge before we were told about the numbers of doves and the subsequent drives to find them. If we had known in advance, we could have considered our options going forward with the possibility of cancelling the trip. I would ask that , in the future, people should be told before they arrive as fundamentally the emails that were sent in the run up to our visit could be considered to be fraudulent, see below. What’s up with the birds? Yes! This huge hunting halt has definitely helped the bird population. With no hunting pressure whatsoever for the past 16 months; we are seeing lots of movement in the usual areas and expect much more as the corn harvest comes to an end. We come to Los Chanares because its selling point has always been large numbers of doves at all heights no more than 10-15 minutes away from the lodge however this is no longer the case.…
Having just returned from my 3rd trip to this fantastic venue I feel somewhat disappointed with the communication. I first visited in 2016 and found the quality and quantity of doves very satisfactory, in 2018 having returned found the numbers had greatly decreased. I was due to return in 2021 but with covid restrictions was unable to travel and the trip was postponed for 12 months.During this period I received emails giving me an update on dove numbers and how the doves have returned, however this was far from the truth and when I returned was shocked at the lack of birds. The hospitality was as a always very good but having to travel up to 4 hours a day to try and find the numbers was unacceptable and this had not been communicated to me in anyway before arrival thus making the lodge an expensive hotel . Visited for the 3rd time since 2016 and the quality and quantity of the dove shooting is now very disappointing Travelling 2hrs to hunt, staying out all day and then the return journey is not what I expected or paid for when shooting at this lodge.I appreciate that the dove numbers have declined and we would have to travel far more to hunt but at no time was this communicated to us in advance, hence we were expecting a very different experience The lodge and the staff were,as usual, fantastic but if you are not getting the shooting it makes this an very expensive hotel.
