Management ‘moved the goal posts ‘.. long after we booked.. assuring ‘nothing’ had changed. Well that was a bold faced lie! Have been going for over 13 years.. and always enjoyed experience. Ownership changed over to Sonesta brand and has continued DOWN HILL. Obviously a corporate decision to bleed off profits, they made cosmetic changes.. ie a few pool tiles, painted outside, some hallway carpets changed. Rooms have same tired decor, ‘80’s style architecture, couch’s sore worn.. with springs coming thru.. 2 bedroom suites have a small area for all to relax, eat, watch TV etc.. at a PREMIUM PRICE. Food services suffering from that old corporate ploy.. gee, COVID has caused such problems.. were cutting back on hot food. Food services on par with your average motel on the road. Im told happy hour still has wine and beer.. for an hour I believe. No alteration in pricing though! When I heard late about these changes.. I canceled.. but 4 hours past deadline.. largely due to impossibility to get thru to Expedia.. again, understaffed and likely underpaid.. sounding familiar? CEO benefit packages UP.. sound familiar ? Hopefully ‘The Gainey’ can right this ship.…
We came back for our first post-COVID trip and the hotel did not disappoint. It was exceptionally clean, service was top notch. I can not recommend this spot enough - it is directly in the middle of the fashion malls and Kierland Commons. There are spots close enough to walk to to eat or drink at - grocery store right next door. We stayed in a two bedroom and were thrilled to find we had a private patio which we were not expecting. The grounds are just lovely. They did as good of a job as can be expected with the pre-packaged breakfasts and happy hour snacks - not quite the spread they used to put on for happy hour (oh my word!) but they are doing the best they can. The bartenders were both super, super nice as were all staff. I really have nothing negative to say - I know some people were complaining that the pool closed at 8pm but I for one was ok with that - because our room faced the pool and that kept the noise to a minimum. The only thing I would say is that the pool is pretty packed by 10am and people are ready for drinks by 11am for sure and the bar doesn't open until noon - my only thought for consideration.…
We had stayed at Gainey Suites for 8 years. In 2019, Sonesta took over. The location, property are very good. The staff is absolutely super. Even knowing us from prior visits. The wonderful hotel has changed. 5 to 7 happy hour now, 5 to 6. They use to have wonderful appetizers, which changed nightly. A super hot meal. Including a great salad, fruit, vegetables. It was dinner. Now, chips, popcorn, snacks. Breakfast was super. Every day, a different egg recipe, along with scramble eggs. Potatoes, ham, bacon, fruit, Cereal, muffins, toast, sweet rolls, bagels. Just fabulous. Now cold items. Just one cereal, bagels, toast, and fruit. We were devasted. It's fine for your first time, but travelers that had been there before you will be disappointed. Sonesta, please change to your prior wonderful accommodations.…
We had a fantastic stay at this Sonesta! Although a few things in our room were slightly dated, it was lovely. The layout of the room was perfect for an extended weekend stay! From the complimentary happy hour and the breakfast to the friendly staff, we could not have been more pleased. It was an affordable place to stay with a great location! The pool is lovely and it has a convenient route to Old Town Scottsdale. I will definitely be visiting again!
The hotel was so nice. The breakfast and evening “snack” (which was more of a meal to me), were great! I loved the pool area and it was well kept up. There is a shopping center right next door with a Whole Foods, Panera, and several other restaurants that were east to walk to. Location was nice and for a girls weekend I felt safe.
Everything about this hotel is wonderful, especially the beds. The pillows were so comfortable I asked where I can buy one. Great location, nice size rooms & a great pool. The breakfast & happy hour was a delight. The staff were all wonderful. I will be staying again.
Please note I’ve traveled quite a bit through many countries, and I’ve never felt the need to write a review until now. We flew up from Texas to watch my son Graduate from ASU. The reservations were made through Expedia several months before our trip. My son stayed at the Hilton just a few blocks away, but my daughter and I decided to say at Sonesta Suites Scottsdale Gainey Ranch because it was $200 dollars less per night and that savings could be used for a better graduation present for my son. I had never made contact with the hotel via text, phone or any other way because the reservations were booked through Expedia. I received a text the day before our trip that our reservations were in place. I had not traveled for over 9 months because my husband has cancer, and we couldn’t go out due to covid. I am extremely allergic to down pillows and comforters. They make my eyes swell up, I get a cold and flu like symptoms and extreme migraines. It dawned on me as I walked through the front door that the facility may have down pillows and comforters. I asked the clerk at the front desk, and he said yes, they use down products. I asked if they could remove them, and he got “snarky” with me and said why didn’t I let them know before. I told him the reservation was made via Expedia and with all my other responsibilities I didn’t think about it until I walked in. He continued to object. It told him I would remove the items and place them outside the room, and he said leave them in the kitchen area. I explained we would be out of the room from 4pm until 10pm and that would give them ample time to provide blankets. When we arrived back to the room 6 hours later, the down products were gone but there were no blankets. I called the front desk and they said they would bring them. After 30 minutes of waiting my daughter went to the front desk to see if she could pick them up herself. The desk clerk said “no” they would bring them sometime later the hotel staff did bring the blankets and I met him at the door and retrieved the bedding and made the beds myself. I was not pleased that they were so unaccommodating and the next day I asked to speak to the manager. I didn’t have a conversation with her and explained the situation. She was unaccommodating and put it back on me in stating I should have told them when I made the reservation. I again explained that I went through Expedia and did not have the opportunity. She then deferred the lack of service to covid that she didn’t have the staff to support her facility. There were two more items where service was horrible. My daughter and I were to fly out the next morning and we were leaving at 4 am. I wanted to check out the night before around 11 pm and I went to the front desk to check out. I was told that I would have to come back at 4 am as I could not check out before that time. The other item related to an item my daughter purchased for my grandson. It was an item not permitted to be transported on the airplane. My daughter went to the front desk to see if they could ship the item and she again got the “snarky” attitude. She was told that the hotel didn’t have a box for the items, and she should go to UPS. Of course, we were about to leave for the airport, so the item had to be left. I’m very, very displeased with the service and the attitudes of this hotel. They were unresponsive and quite rude. I don’t think they can do anything except ignore your request or get “snarky” with you. I’d rather stay in much less expensive hotel with great service than in their facilities. They won’t get far with their attitudes.…
I chose this hotel because of the beautiful picture of the pool on the web. The picture must be at least 40 years old as the lounge chairs were too stained and lumpy looking for me to even sit on them. I also figured that the “free” breakfast would be comparable to the Hampton Inn where I have stayed many times but it was definitely subpar. While most of the front desk staff was exceptionally nice and courteous, the person at the front desk when I arrived at 11:30 PM directed me to an elevator that only had two floors despite the fact that I was on the third floor. I did not know that there were two wings to the hotel – one of which had two floors and the other of which had three floors. It was quite an odyssey before I was able to figure out how to reach my room. Lastly, we stayed in a suite as that was the only way we could get a room with two beds – as opposed to one bed and one sofa bed. We got a huge laugh when we tried to close the door between the bedroom and the living room and were unable to do so because the bed blocked the door from being able to close.…
Wonderful, relaxing stay, would be happy to come back again. My husband and I were greeted by Ronald at the front desk, who was helpful and welcoming. We stayed in room 104, which had a view of the courtyard and was close to all the hotel amenities. We enjoyed lounging by the pool. The hotel offered happy hour drinks 5 to 6pm. Easy drive to a lot of nearby attractions and easy parking. Our room was very large and featured a full kitchen, desk, full sofa, King size bed and large bathroom. Would be great for a long stay. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet. We arrived in AZ very jet lagged earlier that afternoon and I slept like a rock. Complimentary Breakfast was also a really nice bonus. There was a good variety of options buffet style with seating both outside overlooking the courtyard or inside. Sitting ny the courtyard was especially nice. …
After checking into the hotel, the hotel room had an odor. After talking to someone at the front desk they said it would be no problem if we checked out and nothing had been charged yet. Several days after checking out, they charged us for three nights even though we didn't stay any nights. We have been fighting this for two months and still are working on a resolution because the 6 times I've called the hotel, no one will call me back or if I do talk to the manager, Nicole, she promised to refund the money twice within a week and neither occurred and no phone call back. Beware! Stay anywhere else but here!
