First arrived to find the Market/Office closed 3 hours early. No one would answer the phone to help with cabin entry. Bed was horrible and caused me to pull a back muscle. Property needed to be cleaned up a bit. Unfortunately, I spent alot of money and would never go again.

Long story short: Booked the cabin at Don Hoel's on 2/17 after another Airbnb had cancelled due to "maintenance issues" 15 minutes before check-in. Was VERY happy to find a place that was available near Sedona as it was the weekend of the film festival. Don Hoel's, through Airbnb, charged our card and sent confirmation of the booking. Check-in was listed as 5-7. We arrived at 6:45 to find the office was closed. The cabin we had booked was trashed and had not been cleaned from previous guest. Called the number provided on the confirmation to be told by the woman who fielded the call that "that property should have never been available to book" and "we would NEVER book a property that had not been cleaned." Except the property WAS available to book and it HAD NOT been cleaned. We were told at that time (now around 7:15) that we had nowhere to stay and our best bet would be to drive to Flagstaff because Sedona was fully booked. Fast forward two weeks. Expected that the business would likely reach out to offer some sort of compensation for such an egregious error that left us stranded halfway across the country with no place to stay but received no such communication. At this point I left a review on Google honestly framing the situation - only to receive a response from the business dishonestly stating four times that "we spoke IN PERSON" and that they took the time to "EDUCATE" me that evening as to how this works (they even indicated in their most recent response that they were DRIVING AROUND THE PROPERTY and ASSISTED US IN PERSON. This is an outright lie. In fact, we arrived at the same time as another couple who were unable to find their cabin and were at a loss as to where they could locate staff for direction). Don Hoel's proceeded to act in their bafflingly dishonest response as if we should be grateful we received a refund for the property we were not allowed to stay in and repeatedly blame Airbnb, the maids, the weather, and ANYONE BUT Don Hoel's for the error. Upon my responding to their response to my honest review (complete w/ photos), instead of responding in a mature, responsible manner as you would expect a "reputable business" to do, they have come back and called me a massive liar. It would have taken minimal effort to avoid a bad review (or even a GOOD review, as I understand people make mistakes but customer service goes a LONG WAY with me). I would have gladly removed the review with an offer of some sort of minimal compensation or even an apologetic response owning the mistake instead of blaming literally anything and anyone BUT themselves. INSTEAD, they decided to respond with argumentative indignation, a refusal to acknowledge their own mistake, and lies as to how the entire situation played out. So, in summation, if you are looking to book a place that may or may not be covered in trash and old food, where you may or may not actually have a place to stay when you arrive, where a refund for services NOT rendered is considered generous by the business owner, and if you review your less than satisfactory experience you end up in a public, white trash lawn fight where the business representative calls you a liar for honestly reviewing their cobbled together collection of trash covered shanties, Don Hoel's is DEFINITELY the place for you. (Disclaimer: Don Hoel's will likely respond w/ more lies and online screaming...keep in mind, this is how they treat a customer they booked then stood up and left without a room. Speaks volumes about their character. If you wanna see what I'm talking about, hop on over to google and read their response. Ask yourself if this is how YOU would like to be treated in the same scenario before booking...then BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE.)

My family and I stayed September 15-17 just this passed weekend, for my sisters wedding. We had ZERO ELECTRICITY, one fire alarm was taken from the celling, another had zero batteries. One bed was missing a comforter for crying out loud! By the time we made it to the room the manager wasn’t there to help, so we call the EMERGENCY number with no answer. My self being an electrician I searched for breakers GCFI‘s, nothing I did worked. So for the entire night we had zero electricity with three children in the middle of the forest. All we had were our phone lights till they died. Now it is September 16th morning of the wedding. Office opens at 7am we go to try and find some resolution we get sorry can’t help no manager, but that the maintenance man MIGHT come he MIGHT know what to do. if not manager comes in at 11 and guess what manager never comes in maintenance man never helps we are in and out of the office all day until it is time for the wedding. it is now the second day and night without any electricity. My husband and I were told multiple times that someone was gonna come up to cabin number six and figure it out with us or try to come up with a different plan. None of that ever happened instead we were treated as if we were stupid and didn’t know what we were saying there is a young man that makes smoothies who was incredibly rude then try to lie and say my husband was going to attack him. At this point it’s the wedding no one could get ready in my cabin, so all bridesmaids and bride had to get ready in different parts of the area defeats the entire purpose !!!! Sunday the 17th comes around and still no resolution no one has tried to help no one has even given us the decency and respect to try and help, my husband and I go in again at checkout time 10:00 am to try to get some resolution to find some type of manager but what do you know of course no one is there to help there is zero customer service. Finally after waiting till12::30pm. Finally a manager comes in, with the same terrible attitude, she gaslights me into thinking they have handled everything perfectly. My husband and I again are told they will reach out to us to figure something out about our refund, for the fifth time my name number and email are taken down today is Monday the 18th I’ve heard nothing I was told someone would be reaching out to me by via email because their service is spotty and I would receive an email on Sunday the 17th because her main manager was just about to come in, but my husband and I had a four hour ride home. We could not wait any longer with 3 small children. This was one of the worst and expensive weekends of my life! I will not stop until this is handled. I give these cabins a high enough accolade! Sweet, adorable, clean little cabins are sprinkled throughout well-manicured and yet rustic grounds. You'll find little surprises on the grounds like a Locks of Love gate, a playground, and a vintage oil change facility. The cabins themselves are equally clean -- not a five-star hotel experience, but that's not what you're looking for anyway, is it? Oak Creek runs parallel to the state route (two-lane highway) across the street from the cabin grounds, and the Don Hoel creekside property is exclusively for cabin guests. In other words, across the street from the cabins runs a private section of Oak Creek, where only guests can swim, picnic, and laze about. For this highly touristy region, the cabin prices are excellent. Bonus: they're dog friendly! Highly recommend!

Phoenix, AZ 081 7/21/2022 I want to be fair and say I liked the place, other than the 90 degree hot room. The cabin and property is clean and quaint BUT our cabin was over 90 degrees during the day and 80 degrees at night with no air conditioning provided. Their website says you can rent portable air conditioners, but staff say they don't provide those, we had a box fan and ceiling fan with all windows open. I wouldn't recommend staying during the summer like we did unless you don't mind an extra warm room. There are no TV rentals even though the website says so but that wasn't an issue for us. There is no onsite dining, even though their website says so. Not all cabins have a kitchen, even though they list it as an amenity so bring a cooler if you want to keep anything chilled or the staff could upgrade you to a cabin that does have a kitchen for a higher price. The "private access" to the creek means you must cross a busy road and trek down a small embankment. No T-Mobile cell service there, however my Verizon hotspot was able to work. Overall it was a nice place to stay, minus the heat.

I've stayed here several times in the past, really liked the place and wrote a glowing review. But be aware that the price they now quote at their website is fake. Once you've given your information to the booking site, it will tack on a 'Cleaning fee' at the last minute of at least $75, usually more. I refused to go along with this ruse and you shouldn't either. Don't book any place that's not honest up front about their price. Most countries don't allow this practice (which AirBNB seems to have started) and have outlawed it. Unfortunately it's still legal in the USA. I suggest filing a complaint with the FTC, which regulates such things. I did.

WARNING- DON HOELS CABINS IS CURRENTLY OWNED AND OPERATED BY A GUY NAMED ERIC WHO IS A CRIMINAL. He could not have treated my cousin and I worse. He is the worst person I’ve ever dealt with while staying ANYWHERE, and I’ve traveled a lot. It was a complete scam, lies after lies. He promised to move us to another cabin (because of all the problems with ours) then the next day came and he indirectly kicked us out leaving us with no where to stay (we were driving across the country). We were promised 2 beds, there was 1. Our heat didn’t work, they brought us a tiny space heater. We couldn’t sleep because it was so cold. The lady at the desk told us she would bring us soap, never showed up. So they told us they would switch us to cabin 14 the next day, we were relieved. Next day rolls around and now he tells us there’s nothing available, PLUS he told us we could stay three nights because of all the inconvenience. he turned the table and gave us no decision but to leave. He clearly wanted the worst for us because I got upset at him on the phone (I was not rude at all, I was frustrated and overwhelmed at how things were transpiring). NEVER STAY HERE OR STOP FOR SNACKS, HES A HORRIBLE PERSON. As we continued on our way through the canyon in Sedona for a place to stay, we learned from a handful of different people that this has been happening at Don hoels ever since the ownership changed; I’m not some random incident. he also lied about our refund, which came a week later from what he promised. really a shame because the property is beautiful. There was also one lady managing the entire property, and she was told to play along, so sad. F U ERIC & Rot in hell!
