We have outstanding views of Drake Bay and the Pacific Ocean from our Lodge. Our standard rooms are large and include a private bath and an ocean view balcony. Our ranchos are one and two-story private cabins that also offer balconies with stunning ocean views. They hold up to 6 people and are very spacious. Some are equipped with a bathroom on both the upper and lower level, and are suitable for families or two couples traveling together.

I was directed to La Paloma by an excellent travel agent - Costa Rica Custom Trips - and based on that recommendation, plus my survey of reviews, I expected a lot. Expectations were exceeded: The Lodge and the Osa Peninsula combined for a wonderful dream. The rooms, pool, outdoor dining area, beach, are just plain beautiful. The staff is first-class - so friendly and attentive to every detail! (I did have to teach the bartender how to make a martini, but he was an eager learner!) Meals were thoughtfully and artfully prepared, and also delicious. Tours - and we went to the national park, mangroves, snorkeling, bird watching, and night tour for insects! were all expertly organized and led. The wildlife and flora was far beyond anything I have ever seen (and I lived in Maui for a winter.) Regarding those tours, one individual deserves very special mention: Tiko. Tiko was the naturalist who led the tours. He is so smart, so able, so caring for the group, so cheerful. There is no doubt that the interface we had with Tiko was one of the most important highlights of a terrific trip. It's possible that the other tour leaders are equally excellent, but I'd be disappointed to go back and not get Tiko! Finally, a word of caution: this place is hot. I'm one who generally likes heat and humidity, but I don't tend to go hiking in it. Be prepared. Follow the suggestions for how to be prepared - hydrating, proper clothing, sunscreen.

This was the most beautiful place to experience the unique Osa Peninsula. A splurge for sure but well worth it. The rooms are gorgeous, the food INCREDIBLE, super friendly staff, great tours included, lovely pool, non-stop wildlife everywhere... Wish we could go back!!

If you are looking for a major change of scenery, one that you can’t even imagine, La Paloma Lodge in Costa Rica is the place to go. Located on remote Drake Bay on Costa Rica’s southernmost Osa peninsula on the Pacific coast, the Lodge sits high above the sea backed by dense jungle. Just getting there is a real adventure as you travel by small plane, then by vehicle on a dirt road which requires that you drive through a creek, then by boat along the coast after which you are finally deposited at the Lodge’s dock to be welcomed by the manager and driven in a golf cart up to the main building. Cabins are hidden in the jungle connected by stone steps and pathways all of which lead to the main lodge. Ours had a veranda from which we enjoyed beautiful views of the ocean. The only WiFi is in the main lodge and there is no television. Our shower was amazing. I’ve never had better. It was open above a lower wall where you could see the jungle in all of its magnificence. The flora is absolutely amazing. It should be noted that the Lodge is not suitable for handicapped persons given the many steps one must traverse. Dinner was a highlight of the day. Guests gathered in the great room for cocktails after which dinner was served at community tables. The meals were delicious. We met several very interesting people and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each other and sharing our travel experiences. Many small almost private beaches can be accessed from a staircase down to the sea where there is a trail that runs adjacent to the beaches for a considerable distance. We scheduled a fishing trip that did not disappoint. We caught two huge snappers, a barracuda and a tuna all of which were cooked at the lodge and shared with the guests. We also enjoyed hiking in Corcovado National Park which the lodge arranged with a great guide named Randall. Finally we went by boat to Cano island which you can see in the distance, snorkeled, and saw a pod of Humpback whales, one of which actually jumped right out of the water. La Paloma is an exciting place while at the same time very personal and comfortable. The manager Nicole could not have been more accommodating and the staff was wonderful, nice and gracious. I highly recommend La Paloma Lodge without reservation.

We had a great time at La Paloma. We had one of the "superior rooms," and for the two of us it was perfect. Air-con at night and fans during the day kept us comfortable while in the room. Especially nice bathroom and deck. The two excursions, the walk in Corcovado Park and the snorkel trip, were both fun and informative. Our guide was Arnoldo for both, and he was amazing at spotting birds and animals and fish. The staff was very helpful, and we enjoyed the cocktail hour and the other guests. The food was fine, but seemed a little monotonous by the end of the stay. More expensive than we usually spend, but worth it.

Stayed at La Paloma for a few nights; what an incredible place! We stayed in one of the bungalows looking out over the jungle and ocean. The food was excellent; staff so attentive and friendly. Can highly recommend La Paloma and was definitely a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We did a trip out snorkelling, a trip to Corcovado National Park, nightime insect walk and some lovely walks along the coast. So much wildife to see!

What an amazing experience! We took excursions to Sirena, Cano Island, San Pedrillo and the Bug Lady night hike. All were fascinating. The food at the lodge was very good. The staff were all exceptional as were the accommodations. The grounds were well kept and beautiful,

My husband and I loved our time at La Paloma Lodge. We stayed for four nights, and upgraded our included excursions (Sirena station instead of the included San Pedrillo station, and diving instead of snorkeling at Cano Island). We also did the fantastic night hike with Tracie the Bug Lady, which conveniently took place right on La Paloma grounds. Random observations: - It's hard to imagine a better experience before our arrival - everything was handled for us, with all questions answered promptly via email. The couple times I called, Andrea answered right away, giving helpful answers in great English. They booked our flight and our boat ride from Sierpe; we never saw the tickets/reservations but everything went flawlessly. - The Night Hike was well worth it; Tracie and her husband are so passionate about the weird little animals that come out at night. My one complaint: La Paloma booked it for us on our first night, and our excursion to Sirena station was the next morning. I do wish the activity that kept us out until 10:30 pm wasn't immediately before the activity that required us to get up at 4:45 am. Tracie was at La Paloma three of our four nights, and had availability on the other nights, so it seemed like that could have been timed better. - Sirena station excursion. The highlight of our 12 days in Costa Rica. Randal was an incredible guide with perfect English and great skill in spotting animals. He was giving tours every day we were at Paloma, I wish we had done another one with him (he also does San Pedrillo and the mangrove tour). We saw so many animals, way beyond my expectations. The boat ride was only 60 minutes. Note: It is a wet landing for this tour, as there is no dock at Sirena (or San Pedrillo). You can leave your water shoes at the beach and get them on your way out, wearing tennis shoes/hiking books for your 4-5 hours spent walking. Nothing dries in Costa Rica (the humidity is intense!) but no worries, La Paloma has a dry room. You can leave your shoes after your excursion and the next morning they are waiting for you, completely dry. - The bathrooms are open air! Truly, no glass separately you from nature. On the second day, a monkey broke my razor and took a bite out of our bar of soap. My husband loved hearing the ocean while he stood under the rain shower. I mainly worried about what might be in the bathroom when I got up to go in the middle of the night. Especially after the night hike steps away haha. Not for everyone, but definitely unique. - Meals: We chose this resort due to the communal dinners. We had loved that experience when we were on safari and this was great for similar reasons - it was great to meet your fellow travelers from around the world and hear about the cool things they had done that day. - Food: In terms of taste, I felt the food was average, sometimes good. I'm a vegetarian and always had an option. The following pains me to say: my husband got pretty sick after we had been at the resort for a day and a half. For two days he couldn't be away from a bathroom for more than 20 minutes, and he didn't fully recover for six days. Since our previous four meals had been at the resort (and we hadn't eaten anything else), this was likely a foodborne illness. Another guest also had some intense stomach issues at the same time. The staff took this very seriously, making note of every single thing he had eaten so they could investigate, and were helpful throughout his illness, making separate (easy-to-digest) meals for him, and one day Kat even brought lunch to the room. The imodium that Dinia provided is what finally helped him turn the corner. If it hadn't worked, the staff was ready to take him to the doctor in town before our trip home to try and make him well enough to fly home. - The service was amazing in so many ways. Housekeeping was thorough and FAST (3-4 people working on the same room at a time). When my husband was too ill to go diving, they apologized for not being able to obtain a refund (we canceled an hour before; we definitely weren't expecting one!). Kat later came by to offer a free boat ride to San Josecito beach so that I could hike the Drake Bay trail back (otherwise it's a 4-5 hour hike round trip). Dinner includes a single glass of house wine per person; when my husband wasn't drinking they poured me a second glass for free. Not something I would have thought to ask for, but much appreciated! Even with the couple issues we experienced, I would not hesitate to recommend La Paloma for anyone who can swing the cost.

La Paloma is a wonderful resort. It is tucked away in the jungle on the northern side of the Osa peninsula. The lodge overlooks the Pacific Ocean with stunning sunsets. It is remote to say the least but it has all the comforts of a great resort. The remote location is by design so that you are as close to Corcovado National park which encompasses the majority of the peninsula as you can get. Guided tours of many varieties are frequent and excellent. Perhaps what sets it apart is the fantastic service the staff provides. Nicole, the property manager, and her staff give five star service. And the meals are excellent. I highly recommend a stay there. I went for the bird watching and found the guides there very knowledgeable.

We stayed in a superior room during our honeymoon and it was a truly luxurious stay. We got to La Paloma by boat from Sierpe, the captain of the boat was very skilful navigating the transition from river to sea through the surf! Upon our arrival we were taken to lunch in golf carts to save the walk up the hill. All the food throughout our stay was delicious and the service very friendly. There is definitely no risk of going hungry with such a generous offering. In the following days we went to Caño Island snorkelling and for a hike from San Pedrillo. Both were excursions lead by very knowledgeable and personable guides and we were fortunate to see an incredible array of wildlife. The highlight for us was definitely the snorkelling trip - whales and dolphins spotted on the boat journey both ways, snorkelling with reef sharks, so many beautiful fish and turtles!
