The hotel is really nicely situated, right on the beach, very close to a lagoon, beautiful views over the beach and the sea, and with the rainforest as a backdrop. We had a very peaceful bit of kayaking in the lagoon and some long walks along the beach towards the primary rainforest. Even just lounging in the hammock on the verandah outside our cabin, with that kind of view to look out to, was a really great way to spend time. It's a great base for wildlife tours as well, with pickups from the hotel - we had a fantastic night tour, and two trips to Cano Island (snorkelling and then scuba diving) with sightings of sharks, turtles and of course some very colourful reef fish. The food was excellent too, with delicious fresh fruit and juices at breakfast and some really great dishes at lunch and dinner. Also very friendly and helpful staff - and with special mention for Nelson, who put in a massive amount of time and effort in arranging a replacement tyre for us - without him, we'd probably still be stuck at Pirate Cove ...not that we'd necessarily be complaining about that!

Great place to stay for a reasonable price. A nice surprise was all meals included, and they were all quality. Room was comfortable, view and beach were great. Staff were good, Bianca most friendly. A bit far from the center of town, but really not that big of an issue.

We had an amazing time at Pirate Cove and wanted to tell you how wonderful all the staff were. Everyone was friendly and helpful and made our stay so good. The food was delicious and the tables decorated with a different serviette folding style each evening! Our Christmas Eve buffet dinner was especially good! The rooms were spotless and the grounds well cared for. Anna, Frederico, Chilo & Mona at Caño Divers were also great. It is a really professional operation and our sons, who did their PADI Open Water referral course, really enjoyed it & felt very safe. They even got to see two manta rays on their first dive after qualifying! Thanks to you all for a wonderful stay.

Pirate Cove on Drake Bay in Costa Rica is in a world of its own away from the big cities and resort towns. The hotel is rustic, warm and welcoming and with fantastic views of the Pacific. It is a great place to relax, snorkel, hike or just kick back and read books in the middle of nature. The food was top notch and very fresh, healthy. We were very impressed with Susanne who owns the place, Marvin and Ashley. They were all very welcoming. Special mention goes to Abraham who ran the bar, did some tours and other things all at once. He was very entertaining and interacted very well with the guests. Pirate Cove has a very special atmosphere which would be hard to find anywherelse.

Stayed at Pirate Cove for four nights, and enjoyed every moment. We had a bungalow overlooking a truly Robinson Crusoe beach, the same beach where the boat dropped us when we arrived, when we were met by a member of the team to take us up to the hotel. The food was always really nice, and the breakfast was a very varied buffet with hot and cold options. On arrival, there was help with arranging tours, and there was always someone at the desk to help with queries and changes to the tours (due to weather). The dining/pool area doubles up as a "hang out" spot outside meal times, and when the bar is open, a nice place have a well made cocktail as the sun goes down (thank you Abraham!). The whole place was spotlessly clean, with the housekeeping team keeping our room in order every morning. But the stand out feature of the hotel was the team. Everyone of which could not have been more helpful, smiled at every interaction, and clearly enjoyed working together to make Pirate Vove a very special place. Thank you.

Wonderful place!!! Great, comfortable rooms at the end of the earth. Right on the beach and super easy access to Cano Island, Corcovado, and other attractions. Nelson is great about communicating with other vendors and hostels in the area to help get you everything you need, even if it isn't benefitting them. Very affordable drinks. Staff and food are great! I had a bit of traveller's stomach and a dear woman in the kitchen made me a special tea to help. We will be back!

We had a great stay at Pirate Cove, largely due to the incredible staff team — Marvin, Nelson and Ashley! They went above and beyond in their responsiveness to booking enquiries and to make our stay enjoyable. When I was stung by an insect that got infected after a few days, Ashley organised for me to see a doctor in town in 20 mins time! The room was light, airy and clean, with a hammock on the balcony and table with chairs to chill on. Breakfast was quite basic, but lunch and dinner were delicious, although the portions are on the smaller size for someone with a big appetite. Also at pirate cove you get the advantage of it being private and right on the beach, since no other hotels are nearby. We happily walked into town, even though it was about 30 minutes away, or got taxis organised by the staff. Definitely recommend staying in pirate cove, especially in one of their refurbished rooms. Also amazing sunsets!

My wife and I stayed in the Bungalow for 3 nights and did the San Pedrillo and Sirena Ranger Station tours in Corcovado and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The boat ride from Sierpe to Pirate Cove was a great experience. It was about an hour with half on the River and half in the ocean. A little bumpy, but very scenic. This is a fast boat ride, so don’t expect a tour style ride. The bungalow was very nice with chairs and a hammock on the porch. Shower was Luke-warm, but refreshing after a long day in the sun. There is no A/C in the bungalow, but the ceiling fan was plenty for this time of year. They had a pool, access to a small fresh water lagoon, and the beach. Kayaks were available for the lagoon and we saw monkeys, scarlet macaws, and tapir tracks all on the property. Of the tours, I recommend the San Pedrillo Tour over the Sirena tour. We did see more wildlife at Sirena, but the overall feel is very touristy. We receive more information about park conservation efforts, wildlife info, and just an overall greater appreciation for the diversity in the park at San Pedrillo. Also, you get to swim in the river near a waterfall on the San Pedrillo hike, which was much needed with how hot and humid it was. Be prepared that Pirate Cove is 25-30min walk from the town of Drake Bay, so we recommend having meals included. The food was fantastic, coffee all day, and they had a bar with a good variety of drinks. The kitchen staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating to vegetarians. The kitchen even shared some recipes with my wife. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing spot following your adventures in the Osa Peninsula area. It is not super touristy, and allows you to appreciate the easy going life-style in the area.

This hotel is a good place to stay at Drake Bay. It's right next to the coast and a river, and it's surrounded by nature. The rooms are good, nothing fancy. I chose a room with AC, and it worked like a charm. It also had hot shower water if you needed it. Drinking water was readily available everywhere and the staff is very attentive, both in person and email. The food is pretty good, nothing fancy, and you don't get much choice. The exception was dinner, which was restaurant quality (but also limited choice). It's very much worth the cost, I think. I chose this hotel because of the diving center based off of it. The area is fantastic for diving, and the tour team was wonderful. I really loved my experience diving there. There are numerous other activities you can do, but I didn't have time for them. One drawback of this hotel is that it's a bit far from town, about 30 mins walking. If you don't have a car it's a major inconvenience, and walking around at night is nearly impossible due to limited outside lighting. You can book a car to move you around, but it's not very convenient.
