Stayed for a couple of nights with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed it. The property is beautiful and has a great view of Tolimán and Atitlán volcanoes. Every aspect of the hotel is very well integrated with nature. The rooms are comfy and clean and the food is really good. Everyone treated us super nicely. Can’t wait to go back.

We really enjoyed the stay at La Fortuna in room 2. it is relaxing and very cozy. The boats come regularly and so you can visit all the pueblos around. They should charge max. 25 quezales per person. When it rains it is better to sit in the back of a boat ;)

I visited for 5 nights with my boyfriend. We stayed in both of the small bungalows. There was plenty of space for us both, they are cozy and luxurious and the outdoor showers are stunning! Every little detail is considered, from candles at your cabin to hot coffee at your doorstep early in the morning (we are early risers). The property is stunning and truly just like the photos, but of course, even better in person. Everyone who works there was incredibly kind and always offering to help to make our stay better or coordinate various private transportation for us. You should enjoy being in a secluded place, that is not easily accessible coming here. There is of course the public boat (or private if needed), but you can’t simply go off to a cafe or restaurant here - which was the allure for us, peace and quite in what felt like a home away from home. Some of these reviewed mentioned the dogs barking at night. I am the lightest sleeper, and the only thing I ever woke up to was the sound of birds chirping in the morning. The pups at the property are so sweet, and if you start playing fetch with one of them just know you committed yourself to this game for a while ;) It’s also worth mentioning that you should be physically able to move around uneven ground, up steep steps, and sometimes doing so only by flashlight at night. Coming to the lake, stepping in and out of the public boats onto docks that are at various heights is also something to consider, that doesn’t have to do with this hotel, but it’s worth thinking about if that impacts how you are able to travel. I have nothing negative to say about our stay. Really beautiful place, wonderfully peaceful, and makes for a fantastic way to visit this part of Guatemala. I hope to come back again and stay at one of the other cabins!

The customer service is the worst in the whole lake. The didn't even know what "day pass" is. They don't care about what people think about them and charge a lot for very bad service. The worst spot in Sololá. Very disappointing to see how they treat tourists.

Wow. Hard to put this place into words. Every time we got off a lancha (public boat) the other people on the boat were oo-ing and ahh-ing and I think wishing they were also getting off at La Fortuna :) It's a gem on this gorgeous lake! The pictures speak for themselves, but something additional to note is the kind staff and immaculate attention to detail. The first night we received a welcome drink and immediate greeting from Angelica who insisted on helping carry our bags to our room. The next morning we woke up to find coffee already stationed on our balcony and our breakfast was delivered to our room and just delicious. Gloria and Robert were also so helpful and kind at the front desk! They have a lady they call in for massages and I had one of the best massages ever (!$35USD) on my second morning. Every time we needed transportation the front desk arranged private boats for us and made sure we got where we were going. The candlelit dinners in the evening are so romantic and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate breakfasts, lunches and dinners. My hubby loved happy hour and we dipped into the hot tub several times. I would highly recommend the Amigos de Santa Cruz cooking class, about 10 minutes by boat away as well as Simoons ATV tour in Pana. We did the cooking class one evening and the ATV tour one morning :) The rest of the time was spent relaxing, reading and going to bed exceptionally early lulled to sleep by the jungle noises and calm night sky. **One note to consider** if you are not fond of camping or glamping, this might not be the place for you. There isn't AC (which I hope is obvious, they run here only on solar power--mad props!) and our bathroom was outside, which we loved, but we had to squish a few creepy crawlers during our stay which is to be expected in the jungle :) Just keep that in mind to align with your preferences! The only thing my husband would change is adding screens to the windows so we could stay cooler at night without worrying that anything would fly or crawl in :) There is Wifi in the lobby and it even worked decently in my room. The rooms had outlets, bathrobes, candles, purified water, some snacks and a small safe that you set a code for. We love dogs and found all the owners' pets adorable and fun to play with. I can't say enough good things. We hope to come back one day. Thank you La Fortuna!

My husband and I had been looking forward to our trip to La Fortuna since we first heard about the hotel in 2019. Even with all of the anticipation, it exceeded our every expectation! We were greeted at the dock by Anjelica and many of the staff. We arrived with other guests and were all shown to reception. Anjelica showed each couple to their room and gave us a little tour of our suite. We stayed in Suite 5 and it was a dream. We loved the indoor/outdoor bathroom and flow of the entire suite. The bathroom had everything we could want with small extras like comfy robes, makeup towels and small bath toiletries. The grounds were lovely and it was so nice to relax in the wood heated hot tub for happy hour. And of course- Biscuit, Sasha and Sanza! All three dogs were very well behaved and very friendly! We had breakfast and dinner each day and all of the meals were fantastic! They offered several choices for each course and were happy to accommodate dietary restrictions (vegetarian and vegan). Gloria, Robert, and Anjelica helped us arrange private boats, transport to the airport and on location massages. They went above and beyond to make our stay as stress free as possible. I really can't say enough good things about La Fortuna and the staff. I hope we are able to return soon!

Just looking at the pictures, you'll understand why La Fortuna is ranked #1 of 8 Hotels in Santa Cruz La Laguna. But the pictures don't even tell the whole story. The staff could hardly be nicer. The food is delicious (and incredibly reasonable). The ambiance is so relaxing. This is a must-stay. We are already planning a return trip.

Not as expected Overall- Let me preface this review by saying that my husband and I always find a way to have fun and make the best of all our travel experiences. Even if it is not what we were expecting. We met some wonderful guests and had fun. We suspect our experience was altered by the lack of onsite owners. We have stayed at many eco lodges all over Central America and had high hopes based on the prior TripAdvisor reviews and our many prior eco lodge stays. At this hotel the service level was not as expected. Welcome? - We arrived by lancha boat (told by hotel it would be 10Q but the lancha charged 30Q despite discussions with the captain) and were dropped off on the dock. We carried our own luggage up the dock and stairs and sought someone to greet us. We found a gentleman (not the owner but someone who started 3 days ago). He asked if we wanted to order a drink (we were not offered a welcome drink). We ordered drinks and he brought us to our room which the maids were still cleaning at 245pm. We carried our own bags up to the room. The gentleman helped with one small bag. We then were brought a welcome drink. Probably would have not ordered other drinks if we’d been offered a welcome drink prior. We sat in our room while the cleaning staff finished up for about another 25 minutes. Dinner- We had previously notified the owners that we would have all dinners and breakfasts on site (as there are no public boats after 6pm, making dinner elsewhere impossible unless you hire a private boat). The gentleman in charge seemed not to be aware of our dinner plans. Fortunately we arrived there early enough to order it hours in advance. A fellow traveler was not so lucky and was told there was no food for her - as she arrive exhausted and hungry. She desperately needed food and was told there was nothing for her. Her exactly question was “so your saying I’m screwed?” And was told by the gentleman “yes”. We nearly fell off our chairs hearing that and offered her any travel snacks we had and the nuts in our room (which were not in her room either). She politely declined and went to her room. Apparently they assume guests will have same day email and or phone access to respond to dinner menus for the day. However many international travelers do not have access to wifi or phone service while traveling. There was nothing for her. There weren’t even nuts in her room. He didn’t offer to find anything small to serve her. Nothing. No fruit. No bread. Nada. Owners- Never saw them although I heard they returned before the end of our stay. Level of service - 3 out of 5. Had to seek out staff during happy hour in hot tub. Carried our bags in and out of hotel. Gentleman left in charge was unable to answer our questions about lancha info and ideas for day trips. Food- Some nights dry and over cooked. Some nights quite good. Breakfasts were very good. Every day they sent breakfast to our room despite writing on the breakfast request card that we would be eating breakfast in the restaurant (a short 100 foot walk, but still). This happened all four mornings. Food service- on night one the food was sent to the wrong places. Guests in one cabana received theirs at the wrong place. We got someone else’s food and others were served very late. And of course no food for one guest at all. Grounds- Very pretty. The lake is gorgeous and the view of the volcanos is fabulous. The hotel’s own hiking trail is not at all maintained and is largely overgrown. We received no orientation to the hotel or it’s grounds so we wandered until we found the trail. It is a small place but quite pretty. At night, it is dark (good view of stars). However, you are responsible for lighting any candles near your door. Other candles on grounds would be helpful to see on the outside stairs. Casita 5 - Casita 5 is Instagram worthy but not really user friendly. Very attractive. Gorgeous views. Wifi worked well to connect with family. Staircase requires a great deal of coordination and balance as it is steep and has large holes in the steps. No handrail. A challenge in the dark and barefoot to use the bathroom. Like climbing an MC Escher painting. Pretty but not user friendly. No dresser to put clothes in. Only one luggage stand. Had to live out of suitcase on the floor. Small pool but it was too cold & the February weather and wind was too heavy to use pool. The location puts the sun behind a steep cliff around 430pm/5pm so it is shaded quite early. The location also seemed very windy and cool compared to other locations we visited on the lake (and unfortunately the winds were VERY strong a few days). Bathroom was very exposed to view by any boat passing by. You shower completely exposed to the lake and boats that frequently pass by. There are heavy canvas curtains but the heavy wind blew them up despite tying. Overall we had fun exploring the towns and meeting the other guests. And this hotel looks great in pictures. But based on our experience I would not recommend this hotel.
