I originally booked this hotel because nothing in Selfoss was available. But we were happy to stay there. The rooms were tastefully appointed with an excellent bed, and our room had a balcony overlooking some woods with a view to the farms beyond. There are...More
We spent three wonderful days at the Grimsborgir. We had junior suite rooms, and they were spacious and comfortable. There were two hot tubs just outside our rooms -- very convenient. The hotel is well-located for touring on the south coast of Iceland. The hotel...More
I was disappointed with Krasti at the front desk. She was more concerned with getting her point across than treating me as a valued guest who can refer additional guest to Hotel Grimsborgir.
I pre-paid for a room with an online booking site many months...More
This is a well located hotel just north of Selfoss and a great (luxurious by Iceland standards) base for many popular activities in the area. The rooms in the hotel are the nicest that we saw in Iceland. Very North-American in size and very comfortable...More
In picturesque tranquil surroundings, rooms were decent size. Helpful young lady handling check-in and taking us to the actual building may, we found out later, actually have been the manager. Dining room tastefully done.

The hotel is located in the countryside, 10 minutes from Selfoss the closest town. It is on the golden circle route so there are many activities and things to see and do around the area. You can do the golden circle one day or even do part of it in one day and the other half on another day because there are many small stops and interesting things to do.
You can also go to the south coast on one of the days.
There is an outdoor swimming pool in selfoss which is only 10 minutes drive from us, and also other pools in all of the towns around us, as well as natural pools such as: Secret Lagoon and Fontana Spa (in Fontana Spa they also bake rye bread in the ground in the natural hot springs around them and you can join a short tour to see how they bake and taste it)
You can do horse riding on one of the farms in the area, which can be great fun for both children and adults.
Hveragerði is a town about 20 minute drive from here, where there are a lot of hot spring around and inside the town, there are green houses there (Where they even grow bananas!) and also a hot river which you can hike up to and bathe in the natural hot river. It takes about 1 hour to hike up to the river, but the accesibility depends on the weather when you are here. If you are coming now in the winter months it might be more complicated to access the path up the mountain to the river.
Snow mobiling - you can do snow mobiling from Gullfoss waterfall. There can be two persons on each snowmobile so you could take the children with you or you can pay a little extra to have one of the children to go with one of the guides if you prefer.
There are even more things you can do around here so if you have anything specific in mind, please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail.
