Visited for lunch on Sat 14 Jan and to be honest I have really mixed feelings about the experience. What I'm really clear about though is the impressiveness of the location and premises. For me, it was lovely and met all my expectations especially had I've also visited their places in the New Forest and Studland. I'm also clear on...

Plus: About as English as a place can be, from the Victorian butterfly (i.e. dead!) collection, to the stag's head, to the scores of Hunter wellies under the stairs. Quite beautiful. Service informal but professional - just right. Minus: I had braised brisket of beef for a starter. £7. Tasty. Small. Very small. 4 mouthfuls. That's £1.75 per mouthful. My...

Having visited Combe House Hotel on several occasions, always looking forward to going back as it was a such a treat, it was always a little more expensive than other venues but it was worth every penny for the experience on the whole, the attentive service, ambience and quality of food. My parents and I decided to try the new...

This is an excellent destination hotel. Our room in the stable block was outstanding. The massage was terrific. The grounds superb. The bar trying very hard to be laid back stylish - and succeeding. Lots of smaller public areas to escape to. Very attentive and energetic young staff - with personality. A good overall atmosphere. The restaurant however was disappointing....

We decided to visit The Pig for a couple of nights on our way to Cornwall. It is very good value... which is probably why it's so popular. The staff are all charming, just older than 6th formers but come across as insincere. Not their fault. Part of the very rigid brand of training that is required to become a...

Had another fantastic stay at a Pig hotel. Room was very comfortable and staff as always very friendly! Great ambience and lovely location. Had two dinners and both very good. Only reason for not giving a 5 rating was that the vegetarian choice was rather limited for the second evening.

I am one of those who had not visited what was originally called Combe House but now re-named 'The Pig' we were encouraged to try it. On the approach to the property you couldn't wish for a more beautiful view. A magnificent Grade I listed Elizabethan Manor House. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book and originally owned by the half-brother of...

A wonderful setting for a lunchtime meal, we had a call the day before to confirm our booking, and to welcome us and see if we had any special requests. Made very welcome on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble, staff were exceptional. One of the best meals we have eaten locally in Devon. Will go back soon.

On a beautiful day in a wonderful location, we enjoyed a first rate meal served by very polite and attentive staff. When we received the bill at the end of the meal, I was about to add my customary tip of ten percent for good service, when my attention was drawn to the fact that the management have apparently joined...

My other half and I have just had the most fantastic couple of days here. The room we had was gorgeous - really comfy bed and a huge walk in shower, lovely view out the window. The food in the restaurant and the folly was excellent, and the breakfast in the morning was great too. If you book in advance,...
