Arrived early, no problem, balcony room ready and able to check in. Car park great, takes the angst out of parking in Lyme. Nice spacious room with good sea views, nothing to fault. Booked in that evening in the main restaurant. Only three couples in the room, so a bit un-atmospheric but could not fault the food quality. Waiting staff...

Stayed here with 3 friends for a walking break and reunion. Three nights midweek in quiet off-peak November. Given a very professional welcome on arrival. Soon evident that all staff are carefully and diligently trained in the hotel industry and not just left to get on with being polite and chummy to guests. Very smartly turned out too. I liked...

We only booked the Royal Lion a few weeks before as we were in Lyme Regis for a meeting. Arrived in the dark at 6pm and didn't see it until the morning. We had a Courtyard Room and although close to the road were worried about noise. The room was excellent, as was the bathroom. No noise from the road...

We booked in for the Murder Mystery weekend (3rd year). Sadly some of the troupe had a car accident on the way to the function and the hotel was unable to provide the entertainment. Given the extreme short notice I think they were amazing. Free wine was put on everyone's table with our meal and we were given, I think,...

Very much an old style hotel near to the sea front. Staff were very friendly, room 11 was large and comfortable, although I could hear the next rooms tv. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of the idyllic town of Lyme Regis, 'the Pearl of Dorset', is the Royal Lion Hotel, a stunning haven located in the middle of the High Street, with its own private car park. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the West Dorset border, part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, it is renowned for its fascinating past, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the unique fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, and for being the central location of the novel and the 1981 film, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Situated less than 100 metres from the sea, the Royal Lion Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the locale. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the Hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with new additions of its own swimming pool and other facilities. Wi-Fi, although not available in the bedrooms, is available to guests in several areas of the hotel. Privately owned and managed, the Royal Lion Hotel has gained an enviable reputation for its friendly service, world class food and wine and leisure offerings. ... more   less
