Was originally hoping to stay here but couldn't get a room. Popped in for some lunch after visiting Byland Abbey. I love the view of the Abbey from the windows. Food was very nice! Ideal place for something to eat after visiting the Abbey; I think it is run by English Heritage, which makes sense.

We stopped here for lunch prior to visiting the abbey ruins. The staff were really friendly , polite and helpful. The food here was amazing and well priced. The view of the abbey whilst enjoying lunch was brilliant. I would highly recommend this place!!

We stopped here for tea and cake prior to visiting the abbey ruins. The usual Yorkshire welcome was somewhat lacking here and although our order was accepted we had the distinct feeling that what they really wanted to do was to close up even though it was only 3.45pm. The tea and cake was really nice just a shame about...

Hi There, Firstly, may I apologise for the length of time it has taken to respond to your review. Secondly may I apologise for your experience and the lack of Yorkshire hospitality you encountered upon visiting our tea rooms. Our friendly staff, Yorkshire welcome and ample portion sizes are something we at Byland Abbey Inn pride ourselves on and I'm...

Was passing on a nice day and decided to visit the abbey, followed by refreshments at the Inn. It was quite busy for early afternoon on a weekday, and the meals looked very good indeed, but I decided to restrict myself to a cup of tea and a piece of cake. Everything was great - the setting, the tea and...

Popped for lunch on sunny Sunday. Been once before, this time shared the Yorkshire platter, what a feast. Kids had bacon sandwiches ( kids version) and they could have shared as too big, sandwiches not the kids! Only downside was wasps, we and other people had to come inside due to wasps, lots of them. Told manager and he just...

Popped in one afternoon while visiting the Abbey and enjoyed the quick stop off. Smashing little cafe with reasonable prices and extremely friendly people. Very pleasant indeed. Quaint is perhaps the best way to describe both the café and overall surroundings.

We did not stay here but had a fantastic afternoon at the abbey and decided to pop in for a drink and cakes with my husband and two children before heading home. We were served by the Manager of the tea room, who was abrupt and seemed annoyed that we had gone in twenty minutes before closing on a Sunday...

My husband and I stopped here this afternoon Just as they were having a new fridge delivered. We were the only ones there and sat in the garden on what was a beautiful afternoon. We waited a short while as the fridge got stuck in the doorway. The staff got to us as quickly as possible and as we had...

We had planned to visit the abbey but the tearoom was an added bonus. I fell in love with the interior straight away as it is so in keeping with the abbey but contempory in comfort and facilities. The staff were very helpful and service was prompt. The Yorkshire platter for two arrived on a wooden revolving platter and my...

We had a lovely lunch here last weekend. Fresh, plentiful food and swift service. Would definitely recommend this place for a delicious lunch. From the window table you can see the abbey ruins and picturesque view of the surrounding countryside.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Abbey Inn is steeped in history - from evidence of a medieval hostelry beneath its foundations to the current building made from 'borrowed' stones from the ruins of Byland Abbey. Now imaginatively restored from its origins as a 19th-century farmhouse, the inn has been fully refurbished and furnished to create a wonderfully eclectic mix of old style architecture with modern amenities and facilities. We offer our guests a choice of three individually designed bedrooms - the Byland Suite, the Mouseman bedroom and the Kilburn bedroom, all with spacious en-suite bathrooms and lovely views. Our tearoom is dedicated to providing high quality food using fresh local ingredients. Yorkshire produces some of the finest food and drink in the country and we aim to offer you some of the best. Abbey Inn is nestled quietly at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, surrounded by the ruins of Byland Abbey and beautiful open countryside. ... more   less
