Welcoming staff....fantastic old pub, with garden.....good selection of beer/wine....great atmosphere. BUT the real star here is the food. It's expertly cooked and reasonably priced by today's standards. Quietly located on a lovely part of Wiltshire. Highly recommended.

We noticed The Compasses Inn on the internet in a list of best pubs, so living just 30 miles away decided to give it a try, greeting was very friendly and we were quickly served with drinks and shown our table. First impression was of a very old quirky village Pub, The food was delicious we could not fault it,...

Three of us squeezed onto a table for two. Good food and service. Overpriced drinks . Also three glasses of the same wine, came in at three different prices. Landlord more interested in messing around with his till and paperwork than dealing with waiting customers. Also no lights in Car Park, on a very dark night.! Apart from these niggles...

Now under new management and new Chef and to be fair no major changes to this wonderful idyllic country Inn. The menu is modern with plenty to tempt you and some little bar snacks if you just want a light bite. We had a selection off each and everything was great, portions, look, flavours all did exactly as expected. Special...

Had a nice Sunday lunch bit tight with the veg considering it was £15 for a roast. Good choice of real ales. Staff bit lacking in customer service skills I.e welcoming customers. Overall good but probably won't rush back.

We live fairly close - 15 min drive - so it's handy to pop for a quick bit of supper. Food is really good. The haddock and chips are some of the best around. The chaps serving us were friendly and helpful. It's a great little pub - old charm with character. We ate on a Monday evening and got...

Outstanding find . Well worth the effort. Part 14 th century inn . Roaring fire. Real history. The sort of inn you wish you had in your village. Wonderful atmosphere, welcoming landlord. Not a bad idea to book as very popular with locals. Excellent fare and choice of real ales / wines.

Stayed for one night in this lovely thatched quirky pub. Bit of confusion with our room as we were put in the cottage which we felt was a little extreme for one night and certainly not what we paid for but we were told we had 'lucked out'. Had a lovely meal in the pub and soaked up the atmosphere...

Recommended by a friend to go here for lunch. Didn't have a reservation but they had a spare table for us. The place was packed, which for me says it all. We loved this beautiful quaint 14th century pub out in the countryside and the food was unbelievably 5*. Can't say enough about it, tasty, piping hot, freshly cooked. Highly...
