While staying in Newton Stewart in a lovely holiday cottage we popped into the Galloway Arms hotel for our first evening meal, the staff, service and food was so good we decided to eat there every night of our stay, there was also a good selection of craft ales!!!!

Visited here a year ago, food was great, bar was buzzing. Anticipated a tasty meal, entered the bar which was like a ghost town, had to get a local to summon the barmaid....not a good start. Took a table in the corner, seat was loose and kept sliding about, indicated that the place is down on its uppers. Food? Poor.... More

Five blokes on MTB weekend, we booked, our table was ready, the waiter (lived in the place 16 yrs) had "service" as his middle name, beer served at the table, food excellent and we all enjoyed our visit. Can't say more really but I have to so I have 200 characters. As if I needed to - I enjoyed my... More

On our way to Galloway for a few days last December 2014, nowhere open, stopped at Newton Stewart to find a meal and found The Galloway open and made us very welcome. Great food, friendly staff, will be calling again in 2015, same time. Sorry late with review, better late than never

Nice staff, decent room, good breakfast, stored my bike inside so a good return on a cheap price. Wifi non existent in room and dingy corridors made the experience less pleasurable than it might. I had a pint of soda water that tasted like water for £2.50 and when I saw that on the bill it surprised me. Very historical... More

Not the first steak and definitely not the last. It will be hard to find another establishment which serves up a better steak. Service fast and professional, meal delivered hot and to my liking (medium/rare). I asked for Sweet Potato Chips in place of normal chips - not a problem. On the whole the experience was as I remember it... More

My wife and I went here for a meal as it was her birthday. Our son and grandson were also present. Our table was booked in the afternoon for the meal at 5.30pm. On our arrival we were taken to a table that was set out and reserved for us. The staff member was very welcoming, efficient and professional in... More

We ate Saturday night in August when you would expect a place like this to be busy. Others in the town were heaving but this one was not - which might tell you something. The menu is extremely extensive and our venison stew arrived very quickly, perhaps a bit too quickly as it wasn't very hot. It was OK, the... More
