We were looking for a late lunch and decided on the mallard hotel for the first time and didn't regret it, we had a lovely meal with good service, and great prices for the portion sizes and a nice menu, decor is tired but added to the atmosphere

We arrived late for lunch due to really bad traffic. I called ahead to say we wouldn't make lunch service, I was told to come along anyway. We were made most welcome and the food was delicious. My mum was delighted at being there as the hotel features in the Quintin Jardine 'Skinner' series of books, the bar was as...

Thank you for your recent review of the Mallard. We are delighted with your comments. Quintin Jardine has done us justice in describing the bar and the outlook from it! The hotel is family run and we believe has its own personality, offering a drop of Highland hospitality in the Lowlands. We are also very pleased with your comments on...

This hotel is very run down and is in need of major refurbishment. From the outside it is drab and uninviting - it needs painting and the grounds/garden needs attention. When entering, there is a porch type area with chairs which have seen better days. Old logs and twig like trees which are fit for the bucket! I've never stayed...

Thank you for your recent review. I must start but saying we (the owners) are not unhappy so please don't be concerned for us. We are however surprised by your comments about the building. The exterior was painted in April and we believe that the garden is maintained to a reasonable standard with seasonal plantings and brimming window boxes. The...

Second visit in 2 years with an 8 man golf gang from Sweden. The hotel is perfectly situated in Gullane for golf there and for many super nearby courses. Very good food and even better owners and staff. Warm, friendly, accommodating and great sense of humour. We will be back next year!

Stayed there for the second time in two years. Ideal for golfers,as only yards from the golf course. Rooms were clean and tidy, and the breakfast was good. Did not spend a lot of time in the hotel so hard to do more of a review.

A busy weekend for The Mallard with a wedding but still managed to fit us in for a evening meal. A lovely warm atmosphere excellent food with the usual warm Scottish hospitality. I can definitely recommend the haddock only disappointed that there was no mush peas, but that is definitely an English thing. Maybe in time to come we will...

One night stay for a golfing weekend. The hotel is clean and the food is of a good standard. We were playing golf all day then went to the golf inn & the old club house in the evening so didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel. It maybe could do with some modernisation but it's ideal for...

I have been coming to this family run hotel for over 20 years on golf trips and find it difficult to fault The hotel has bags of character and the food and hospitality is always great. The location could not be better However if you are looking for a stereotypical chain hotel, which is bland, sterile and characterless then this...

This hotel is in the ideal location. Our bedrooms look out over the golf practice ground and then on to Gullane 1 and 2. The staff were very helpful in all respects from later food if we had a late tee time to keeping the bar open if we would be coming in after a night out for a "wee...

Thank you for your review of the Mallard. In our publicity material we say that the hotel is "a pitch and a putt" from the first tee. Sometimes people think we exaggerate but as you comment we have the ideal location for a golf hotel. We very much appreciate your positive comments about the staff and their willingness to go...

We had a great time at the Mallard this June, 12 rooms , a pub, and the nicest staff who made us Yanks very welcomed. We had 3 golf view rooms, walked to the Gullane courses and all the great restaurants and pubs. Internet was poor in one room, fine in 2 others. Breakfast was really good.

Thank you so much for your recent review of the Mallard. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, especially the views from the rooms and our proximity to the golf courses - "only a pitch and a putt" from the first tee? - well almost! We do hope you Yanks return to the Mallard for our Scottish hospitality.
