Many travelers are drawn to The Gwbert Hotel for its prime location with stunning views of the Cardigan bay area and its reputation for cleanliness, with spotless rooms and immaculate bathrooms often highlighted. Guests have called out the friendly and attentive service, though some note occasional slow responses. The hotel's sea view rooms are popular for their comfort, yet there are remarks about their size and lack of storage.
The value is debated; some find it reasonable, while others consider it overpriced given the amenities and views. Complaints about noise and the need for refurbishment suggest the atmosphere could be improved.

My husband and I have stayed at the hotel several times over the years. This time we booked a room with a sea view which was definitely worth the extra cost. Room was very comfortable with an immaculate bathroom that included a bath and a large shower. Breakfast was plentiful in choice and very plentiful in quantity. Staff were very pleasant and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They all came over as being very happy as they went about their work. This was a pleasure to observe. The hotel has an intimate and friendly feel about it from the time you go through the door to check in until the time you check out - knowing in your heart that you will want to return.

There are certain places that leave an indelible mark on ones memory, and Gwbert is one of mine. It's situation alongside the estuary where the Teifi flows out into Cardigan Bay, provides the hotel's guests with an ever changing backdrop whatever the weather. We were fortunate to have the luxury suite for 3 nights at £195 per including a handsome Welsh breakfast, nicely setting us up for the day. The vast room with it's separate sitting area afforded us a most comfortable stay, with the eye constantly drawn to the mesmerising waters outside. It included a rather intimidating slipper bath to one side, inviting us to strip off and jump in, but there was a walk-in shower option. Take your choice! The hotel's dining room offers several tables with window seats, but the food is good enough, in the main, to keep you occupied. Our Saturday nights meal of whitebait and curried chicken with coconut rice was exceptional, all served by some of the loveliest staff, Ilona and Annie striving hard in particular to offset an earlier disappointment. They were outstanding, and ensured our view of the setting sun was well lubricated with very good house wines. The hotel allows easy access to some outstanding coastal sites, including Mwnt and Poppit Sands, as well as the bustling market town of Cardigan and the pretty St. Dogmaels, with Newport, Aberporth and Cenarth Falls nearby. One abiding memory that remains is the sight of hundreds of honking geese returning to roost as the sun goes down.

We stayed for three nights at the Gwbert Hotel. It was my first visit to this part of Wales since I was a little boy and our first trip away since before the pandemic hit, so it was going to be a special occasion in any event.
The hotel's location is superb with views over the Teifi estuary. Cardigan is just a few minutes' drive away. In the other direction you can drive to the Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park for a cliff-top walk and seal spotting. The coastline around here is stunning.
Our bedroom was excellent. The bed was comfortable. There was plenty of space in the room for all our luggage and enough wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom, too, was fine with a good shower. The hotel provided a very useful little brochure setting out information about the hotel and things to do in the area. There is a car park at the back of the hotel.
Care had been taken to make the place Covid safe. Tables in the restaurant were a sufficient distance apart and staff cleaned them thoroughtly with paper towels and spray after guests had finished. Guests took their masks off at the tables but otherwise I did not see any guests or staff who were not wearing masks and so felt comfortable around the hotel.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but in fact had our evening meals in the hotel each day. The full cooked breakfast was excellent. All the elements were delicious. The evening meals were reasonable but typical of a good pub chain; it was a shame that they were not a little more ambitious.
The staff were pleasant and helpful but on occasion service was a little slow. I got the feeling that some of the staff were working out what to do as they went along and some of the procedures could have been tightened up. For example, the signs in the bar area asked guests to wait to be seated, which was fine in the evening when staff were around, but in the morning no-one was there to direct visitors to the restaurant for breakfast. On our first morning we tentatively made our way forward until we coaught the attention of a waitress serving breakfast. The same happened to other guests - quite possibly all of them. All the staff needed to do was to display different signs in the morning. That is only a minor quibble. Otherwise service was fine.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Gwbert Hotel. The only downside was the weather. It was truly appalling for two days. The hotel can do nothing about that but I hope we will be able to visit again in the summer and enjoy the location a bit more.

Dear jpcheshire1615, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a great and constructive review, are team here really do appreciate hearing such lovely feedback. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us from the accommodation to the food and even a COVID safety procedures. We do appreciate that service might have been a little slow; due to COVID restrictions we are limited by the amount of staff that we can have working at any one time as well as staff carrying out extra duties and procedures making sure that guests stay on the same tables and adhere to our COVID policies. We do hope that you can appreciate the immense pressure that our staff are currently under. We will take a look at our signage, in order to make things as clear and easy for our guests as possible. We do hope to welcome you back again soon and hopefully with better weather!! Kindest regards, The Gwbert Hotel Management Team

I would highly recommend a visit to the Gwbert Hotel overlooking the tremendously beautiful Teifi estuary, Cardigan Bay and Poppit Sands. The hotel has onsite parking, and we had a warm welcome on arrival. We had a sea view room, ensuite shower and the bed was exceptionally comfortable, unlike some hotels. The room itself was clean and presentable and provided us with everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The housekeeper was very helpful and pleasant, as were all the staff. The waiters and waitresses at the Bistro were attentive and the food is excellent. There is a lift for anyone with mobility issues, or those not wanting to carry a suitcase up stairs.

We've just got back from a four night stay at The Gwbert Hotel just outside Cardigan and situated right on the cliff overlooking the estuary mouth to the River Teifi and Cardigan bay beyond. It's a wonderful vantage point and if like us, you book a room with a sea view, you'll have endless beautiful vistas to admire.
Happily, for the four nights we stayed we had brilliant weather for this early September break and could use the outside seating area of the hotel too. You really can't do much better for scenic views.
Our room was a double executive with the afore mentioned sea views, provided by a bay window, with chairs to sit and admire. Really good and worth the extra money for sure.
The rest of the room was fairly compact although our modern bathroom had a standalone bath tub and large shower. There's a coffee making machine and a kettle, plus plenty of little extras including a fridge. Our only slight niggle would be that I think the sound proofing is fairly minimum, however, luckily for us our neighbours were all fairly quiet. Get a noisy one and you will hear them!
The rest of the hotel is quite usable but I stay in plenty of hotels and in comparison it's obvious this place could do with some upgrading in the main guest areas. Having said that, the staff were great and we saw constant Covid cleaning going on with sanitising stations and staff in masks. We did have to make our own bed too, not that we minded that.
Overall, we paid £488 for our four nights stay with a good cooked breakfast included. There's onsite car parking and some lovely walks along the coastal road to the hotel.

We turned up on a Sunday lunchtime without a booking and luckily were able to get a table. From the special Sunday lunch menu we decided to share a beef baguette which was excellent. We took advantage of the special offer on cocktails as well, although stocking some of the local craft beers would have been good. Views from the bar area on a clear day are spectacular. Recommended

Our second time at the Gwbert. We spent 4 nights, in sea view room, clean, comfortable, quiet, hearing no noise from other rooms. Very good breakfast, with buffet options, and any selections from the cooked menu, including kippers. Unlimited tea and coffee, and not rushed, time to enjoy being there. Evening meals good, mainly ‘pub style’ menu, but with specials every evening, large portions, and amenable to substituting chips for salad etc if required. All staff very helpful, friendly and efficient. The real bonus is the location, wonderful sunsets, very relaxing. Hope to come again.

Stayed here June, part of a walking group. Really nice place. Food was fantastic. We booked a sea view room but had a room overlooking the car park. I asked reception about this and was told nothing they can do now as they’re fully booked. Had 3 beds in room that I booked for 2 people! (2 single beds and a double bed) all in same room. Tea/Coffee making in room which was replenished daily along with fresh towels. Had 1 double plug socket that had a dangerous looking gap running along the top of it! Other 2 sockets were inaccessible as they were behind the beds. Beds were really comfy which after a long day rambling were much welcoming! Shower was powerful enough. Breakfast was buffet with lots of juices, cereal, yoghurts, tea/coffee, condiments Etc. Being part of the Ramblers Group we had a selected menu from the other diners which we chose what we wanted during breakfast. Lots of choices, Starters, Main Course then the best - Puddings - Apple & Fruit Crumble - the best! Caramel Cheesecake, mmmm.
Our group had 2 long tables with views of the sea which were great. What was not so great was the fact that they had no air con or blinds to block the sun out which was relentless. Beautiful though. After dinner a nice walk to the Cliff Hotel (just go past the car park, there’s path along golf course) to watch the Dolphins! Truly amazing to see. Other than the fact of not having a sea view we really enjoyed our stay here.

Overrated and overpriced, requires total refurb corridors upstairs disgusting carpets minging. Food mediocre. So called cutbacks ie no biscuits with coffee or mints. Most staff don’t want to be there. Owner is only interested in making money and is not a jolly guy. Was great but will it be great again ,Not if Wells keeps it.

Dear Mr Milne, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback on your recent stay. Having welcomed you and your lovely wife for a number of times a year, for several years we are saddened that you have only now decided to place a review. However, having looked through the other reviews that you have placed regarding other premises, it is not surprising that this particular review follows in a similar vein. We have always accepted criticism as method to improve our hospitality and will certainly take your thoughts onboard. However, we were horrified to hear the vulgar, disrespectful, intimidating and insulting way that you spoke to team members on several occasions throughout your recent stay. We are in the process of removing one use plastic items throughout the business, and one action is replacing complimentary plastic water bottles with more environmentally friendly complimentary water cans. This being the reason for one particularly emotional outburst. As you checked out from the hotel you made it quite clear that you would not be returning, and we are thrilled that you have found a hotel that is more suited to your jolly needs. We wish the team at The Waterside the best of luck.

What a simply stunningly beautiful hotel this is and located with exceptional views. Having read the reviews, I was adamant to make sure I stayed here, and we were not disappointed at all. From the welcome, right thru to the departure the staff were friendly and made sure we were always looked after. The restaurant was simply extraordinary (we had a nice table in the window), the food was perfect and the beers and wine just superb. After dinner we spent the evening out on the bar balcony and met some wonderful co-travelers. Our room was quiet, warm and comfortable, on a corner with excellent views. Travelling as father & daughter we had a room with two single beds both of which were very comfortable. I really could not fault this hotel, its staff or its facilities.

Hi gillm_48,
Thanks for your question.
Rooms 3 and 21 are both sea view, executive rooms. The main difference between the two is that room 3 can have either a twin or double bed, whereas room 21 can only have a double. Both rooms have a bay window, en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath, and the same in-room facilities.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please get in touch :)
