Perched on a scenic coastline, The Cliff Hotel & Spa captivates guests with its breathtaking sea views and luxurious atmosphere. While opinions on value vary, with some guests questioning the room and service quality for the price, the hotel's location consistently receives accolades. The service is typically lauded for being attentive and friendly, although occasional lapses are noted.
Amenities like the spa enhance the stay for many, despite minor drawbacks. Room experiences are mixed, with cleanliness and noise issues offset by their spaciousness and views. Cleanliness is generally well-regarded, despite isolated concerns.

We got married on 15th August 2024 and had our wedding reception at your hotel. The service we received was exceptional and although I'm sure you know, I wanted to highlight why. Firstly, our reception was coordinated by Casey Bellars. She went above and beyond to ensure we had the day we wanted. She was very efficient throughout the whole process and the communication was excellent from the first day till after. On the day itself, she made sure buttonholes were delivered and that guests knew exactly what was happening. During the reception she checked in with us discreetly to ensure all was how we wanted. She liaised with our suppliers, the result of which was a seamless night where we were able to truly enjoy every minute. She truly is an excellent wedding coordinator! All of your staff were friendly and seemed genuinely excited for us. They had my room the night before the wedding, ready early so I could make the most of it and helped my friends set up the room in plenty of time so they were free to enjoy the celebrations too. Many of our guests commented on how amazing the food was throughout the day. We honestly are so grateful for making our day so memorable and we have nominated the Cliff for an award due to the excellent service we received. Please pass on our thanks to Casey and all the staff for making our day so special.

We booked to attend the New Year's Eve tasting menu dinner with dancing, but we had to swap over to the buffet and dancing as I was working; but the reception staff were happy to re-arrange this and credit the difference to our room. At the time of booking, I think it was Eleina, happily arranged for us to have the use of the spa and a late check-out on New Year's Day, due to our late check-in. We stayed in room 22 which was lovely and spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Here are the ONLY two negative points - the two pairs of spa slippers looked "used" and there was a slight tear at the bottom of the bed sheet. (This is only an observation and in no way would this sway us from staying again because in comparison to everything, it is very minor!). The buffet was run like clockwork; controlling a large crowd of merry adults need a military approach and they did not disappoint. I think the staff who looked after us were Keith? Katie and Brianna - they were wonderful. The food could not have been better with regards, variety, temperatures, taste and layout - starters, mains and deserts, with the Cliff cheeseboard once again the star of the show! They provided great music by "The Wilderness" who had us dancing from the first song to packing up!!! I wasn't looking forward to such a crowd descending at breakfast all at once, but my word, the staff couldn't be faulted and neither could the food! Absolutely nailed this event and stay and we certainly look forward to more of The Cliff in 2025!!

We stayed at the Cliff last Friday 22nd October for my wife's birthday. We booked a Luxuary Suite which was room 211, the room was huge with two small sofas positioned looking out over the fantastic views from the room, large bathroom with separate shower and bath, also a hot tub out on the balcony, again making the most of the views. We had booked the use of the spar prior to our arrival which was good and well managed with a limited amount of guests using it. Dinner was also booked prior to our arrival, which was delicious ( Lamb Shank & Rump Steak. Dessert was Cheese and Biscuits). The service was excellent with the staff being both courteous and pleasant . The buffet breakfast was good. The food was hot, freshly cooked and being replenished regularly. We would highly recommend staying at the Cliff Hotel, and while the Luxury Suite was not cheap it did enhance our experience. We would also rate the hotel as a Four star rather than the Three that it is.

The hotel, the views, the food, the staff were lovely. The reason for the poor review is that we stayed over the weekend and a wedding was on. No issue with a wedding being on, but at no point during our stay did the hotel tell us there would be a wedding on, or prior to our stay .Our room vibrated with the baseline of music being played from about 4pm, and the noise lasted until midnight. When you’re paying more than £180 a night for a hotel room, a little courtesy is appreciated. Other hotels we have stayed in have told us in advance of weddings being held during our stay and we have made plans to be out of the room until as late as possible. Seems the focus here is more on weddings money and not on the guests who are paying to stay there for a break away. Wouldn’t come back, wouldn’t recommend

Dear siany159, Thank you for your comments, please accept our sincere apologies that your stay was below expectations. There are indeed events that take place and we do our very best to ensure that these do not impact on the enjoyment of our other guests, by allocating rooms away from the function room. All confirmation communications sent prior to arrival state that at certain times of the year we host weddings, events and parties which may include high guest numbers, live entertainment and firework displays. If you have concerns that hotel events would be an intrusion on your visit please contact the hotel directly in advance of your stay for further information. There is always a member of the team contactable at any time during your stay, and had we been aware of your disappointment, we would have been happy to address this at the time. A member of the team has also reached out to you directly and we will do our very best to make amends.

Upon check in, issues were obvious as soon as we entered the room, dirty carpet, dirty bathroom floor, dirty splashback on sink and splashback around bath, cobwebs hanging above the bed, faulty safety latch on window and the general feeling that the room was in need of modernising. Attempts may have been made to clean the room while we were using the spa facilities but the room was still not to the standards I would have expected a hotel such as the Cliff to be offering to guests.
The problems experienced in the restaurant can only be described as shocking. After consuming much of the meal I ordered, I noticed the texture of the prawns was unusual and discovered that the tail of one of the remaining prawns was raw. After bringing this to the attention of the waitress, the waitress offered to replace them to which I refused as I felt uncomfortable having eaten raw shellfish. When paying for the meal, I was asked if everything was ok to which I explained what had happened so the cost of the prawns was removed form the bill. However, the waitress returned to say that she had spoken to the chef and he was sure the prawns were properly cooked. I reminded the waitress that I pointed out part of the prawn that was grey in colour and that could only mean that it was not properly cooked. So not only was my dining experience destroyed because of this, the chef was using the waitress to reject my claims of the prawns being undercooked. I was speechless by the way this situation was dealt with and later spoke to another guest who had also discovered raw prawns on her plate.
Overall, when you pay to stay at a hotel offering premium rooms and fine dining, you certainly would not expect to stay in a room that can only be described as grotty and food that has the potential of causing guests to become sick.

To future customers considering a stay at this hotel, I feel compelled to share my recent experience, which unfortunately has left me disappointed and reluctant to recommend this establishment.
My initial experience at this hotel over a year ago was wonderful; it was so good that I recommended it to many friends and family members, who also enjoyed their visits. So, when my son gifted me a dinner, bed, and breakfast voucher for my 60th birthday, I was thrilled at the thought of returning. I even invited close friends to join us.
When I first contacted the hotel to book these rooms, the receptionist couldn’t find the voucher in the system. She assured me she would call back the next day, which, unfortunately, never happened. To ensure our stay, I ended up booking two rooms through Booking.com, intending to use the voucher on a future visit.
Upon arrival on November 3, I was told that they had located my voucher and had already booked a room under it, resulting in three reservations: one from the hotel and two from Booking.com. When I explained the situation, the receptionist was dismissive and unhelpful. I asked to extend the voucher, but both he and the duty manager refused, stating it had to be used by December 10, 2024. Left with no choice, I decided to use the voucher to cover dinner but ended up paying for an unused room.
I was particularly disappointed by the unprofessional attitude displayed by the staff. I was promised a callback that never came, and the hotel had no right to apply my voucher without my confirmation. A more reasonable approach would have been to extend the voucher or offer a partial refund.
This experience, unfortunately, left a sour impression. I paid for a room I couldn’t use, which I consider unacceptable. I urge future customers to be cautious if considering purchasing a voucher, as any issues may lead to unexpected costs.
In closing, I emphasize that my dissatisfaction is directed solely at the two individuals involved and the receptionist who received my initial call and my dissatisfaction of the process of locating a voucher no if a customer phones to book a room using a voucher.
Their unwillingness to assist has marred what was meant to be a special occasion. I hope my experience helps others in making informed decisions.
Sincerely, Paul

Dear Paul, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback on your recent visit to The Cliff Hotel & Spa. We are very sorry that you were disappointed with your experience, following such an enjoyable stay last year. You certainly should have received a call back as promised, and we are very sorry that this did not happen, please be assured that this has been addressed with team members involved. Having discussed your comments with team members that were on duty during your stay, the charge for the third room booked with a voucher was indeed waived, and only the two rooms booked via booking.com were paid for. The voucher was reinstated as requested, enabling you to use the voucher again on a future date. Following this, you then requested to use the value of the voucher to cover dinner, rather than rebook your stay another time, and this was duly processed for you. Thank you once again for taking the time to share feedback on your experience, we are very sorry that we were unable to resolve your query at the time and very much hope that this does not stop you from returning.

Hotel is in a great location overlooking the sea at Cardigan Bay Decent room with great sea view. Some fittings a bit dated. Wifi was a bit inconsistent in our room, although good in public areas. Breakfast was ok, but a bit like a Premier Inn style of self service and average food quality. Evening dinner was good, but spoiled by a large group of 20+ people on a 'business' trip, obviously enjoying their expenses accounts, being extremely boisterous and noisy. After eating our meal we went downstairs to the bar area to escape the noise but unfortunately the large group (now even louder!) followed us around 30 mins later. I appreciate that corporate bookings are good business, but the hotel needs to place large groups in separate function rooms to avoid spoiling the stay for other guests. Also there were some noisy people in the bedroom corridors late into the night.

I stayed at the Cliff Hotel for my sister’s wedding. While the initial impression of the hotel and staff was reasonably middle of the road, on par with a Travelodge or Premier Inn, their response to customer complaints was far below the standard of much cheaper competitors.
There was a second larger wedding party staying in the hotel at the same time as us, and my room happened to be somewhere above the restaurant, with a window view of someone else’s frosted bathroom window I might add. When I headed upstairs to bed, I could hear, and feel the loud bass music being played downstairs, as well as other very noisy guests going up and down the stairs right outside my room.
As it was only 9:30 or so, I gave it some time to let whatever party was going on wind down, but at 1AM, I was still being kept up by a thumping bass and rowdy guests.
I wasn’t about to try calling the reception to deal with such a noisy crowd for the staff’s own safety, and ended up getting only a couple hours of sleep. Imagine my surprise the next morning when I wake up and can still hear music playing. My new in laws had had a similarly poor night due to the noise.
At any other hotel in a similar bracket, mentioning this to the front desk on checkout would be met with an apology and possibly some form of refund. The staff here? Because we didn’t tell them in the middle of the night, we hadn’t given them an opportunity to resolve the situation and that was that, without even an apology, never mind a refund.
Save your money, and look elsewhere if you want actually decent views or a good night’s sleep.

Stayed at the cliff for our anniversary on a stay and dine package at a cost of £268 for one night. On arrival the view from the room was stunning , although the bathroom and bedding were clean , areas of the floor were dusty and the glass on the patio doors and mirror were dirty.. As we were staying for just one night we didn't want to make a fuss and have our time spoiled by cleaners coming in to rectify the issue. At dinner my wife requested a steak and when asked how she would like it cooked my wife replied medium to well with no blood (not an abnormal or unreasonable request.) Upon the arrival of the meal my wife's steak was oozing with blood , the steak was taken away ,it was returned only to be still running with blood so had to be returned for a second time.By the time the steak was recooked for the second time I had almost finished my meal. What should have been a romantic meal for two on our anniversary was ruined by the inability of the chef to cook a steak as requested and recooking a steak twice. The restaurant manager was apologetic and took a cheeseboard off the bill. Upon retiring for bed that evening we discovered that we did not have a double bed, but two singles sandwiched together with a gap in the middle which made sleeping together impossible as we had to stick to separate sides of the bed. It may as well have been a twin room. When we checked out we were presented with a bill for £7.90 which I thought was strange as our restaurant bill totalled £63 minus our £60 allowance resulting in a payment of £3, but I was informed that drinks were not included. I explained the issues we had and asked to speak to the manager. It was at this point we had the misfortune of being confronted by Charlotte the deputy manager, who was complaining to a member of staff about another guest at reception who had the audacity to query his bill.Charlotte was was nothing short of unhelpful and rude and insisted on us paying the extra £4.90 and kept repeating about drinks not being included. When we pointed out the cleanliness of the room, the bed and the issues in the restaurant and the fact that it greatly marred our anniversary she replied that she would pass our comments on and as a parting shot she sarcastically wished us a happy anniversary. I wrote letters personally to the owners of the Cliff to air my views and disappointment, but a month has passed with no reply. Clearly there is a total disregard for paying customers. I will never stay in the Cliff Hotel or any other establishment in the Flatrock group again. I will in future spend my hard earned money in establishments that actually appreciates their customers and have an understanding of customer service.

I visited the spa with my daughter. I have been before with my husband and I have to say I was this time I was disappointed with the experience we had. It had most definitely deteriorated in quality, experience and atmosphere.
We waited a long time to check in, approximately 15min. People behind us stood waiting in the main entrance to the hotel in bath robes. There were no towel’s available for us to us. The staff were running to get some more but they seemed to be confused if there were any clean ones left.
The changing rooms were full of used wet towels and robes, there was nowhere to sit to get changed. The toilets were unusable, very wet and dirty. Lots of black mould around the drains and tiles. Clumps of hair in drains .
We found the spa itself ok, however for us it was very busy- too busy for it to be relaxing. Lots of people walking about and taking loudly meant the atmosphere was far from relaxing. There were also a lot of used cups, wet towels and robes dumped around the place. The changing rooms on our exit had been cleared of the towels etc, however there was black hair everywhere! Long black hair covered the floor and the showers too. Everywhere we stepped had hair is was not a pleasant experience to get changed in at all. Worse than public swimming pools. Overall we felt very disappointed and couldn’t wait to get home to shower again. We were glad we had not booked a treatment this time as I feel the cleanliness had put us off. These changing rooms and communal area need to be better monitored. It’s such a shame as this hotel could be a little gem. More staff needed to keep the place clean and maybe think quality over quantity when allowing too many guests into the spa at any one time.

Dear Happiness34534425638, Thank you for sharing comments on your recent stay, a member of the team has previously responded to your direct email sent earlier this week and we have taken your feedback on board. All spa areas including relaxation room, main spa area, changing rooms and gym are checked and tidied every hour, including mopping away water. This is usually completed by the receptionist that is on shift on the time and is signed off each time by way of a log which is clearly displayed on the back of the changing room door. Having checked the logs, we can confirm that the changing room checks were completed regularly throughout the day that you visited, however, this may have been at cross times of when you arrived and departed. Please be assured that your comments have been raised with the Spa Supervisor and she will aim to increase the number regular checks going forward, subject to staff levels permitting. With regards to any black mould, the changing rooms have been assessed and problem areas have received a deep clean. We do hope to welcome you back again soon.
