Peter & Thelma from the New Forest. We have just returned from a Friday to Monday celebration of our Golden Wedding at this venue. We hired all the accommodation on offer and there were 25 in our party: including our six children and their spouses and our ten grandchildren. The home team at Porthmawr catered for our breakfasts, the celebration...

Friends Jen & Alex got married in November 2014. They were able to book the whole country house for the weekend for guests to stop over. The staff were fantastic especially with the two ladies with young babies. The seating area was quite small & a bit cramped in places but we made the most of it. The meal was...

The views and location is lovely. Great for photographs. The owner was very rude and unprofessional. There are lots of uneven surfaces and unsafe steps. The accommodation areas are not the best and some beds are very uncomfortable.

We hosted our Daughter's wedding here (Toni to Paul) on April 12th weekend. It was Idyllic and perfect. We hired the whole house, function room and apartments for 4 days. Pre wedding we visited the house several times, and Geoff (the owner) was available to answer many questions and was a fountain of knowledge about the house's history and also...

We stayed here over New Year. As there were 28 of us we rented the entire premises including the apartment and gatehouse. While the house itself was large and very pretty on closer inspection you realise that it is all a bit tired. As a self catered house there was a distinct lack of standard equipment within the house i.e....

This is a much over due review (as our wedding was in September) but we had the weekend of our lives at Porthmawr Country House! From the moment we booked (Jan 2013) right through to the wedding (28th Sept) Geoff and Linda were always on hand to go through bits and bobs and accommodate our many visits to see the...

Having read the poor review posted prior to mine I must admit to feeling a little nervous about our booking which was for the whole house and cottage for a family reunion in December 2013. I was wrong to worry as I cannot state how impressed we have all been with Porth Mawr and can only assume that the writer...

We tend to visit this area once or twice per year to visit family and go climbing in the mountains. Anyhow, we decided to give Porthmawr a try. Anyhow, we stayed the ground floor flat, next to the old lodge and large gates. We were shown into the lodge by the owner who appeared to be quite a nice guy....

We stayed here for my brothers 50th Birthday. He hired all of it including the appartments etc. We had a lot of people staying. It is a stunning house with beautiful views of the hills around. The dining room could sit us all (32 people) the kitchen was good enough to cook when we wanted to (except one small kettle...

We hired the whole of the house on a self catering basis so I was able to look around all bedrooms, they are all tastefully decorated some rooms being a lot bigger than others but as we we had use of all the house bedroom size was irrelevant, we tended migrated to the large lounge with the big open fire...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Porthmawr is a splendid Regency mansion. Tucked away behind 15th century castellated walls the house and grounds are utterly private and peaceful with stunning mountain views, and ample parking. Plush furnishings, antiques and quirky modern artwork sit side by side in its tall-ceilinged rooms. Relax and enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace on a summers eve or infront of the open fire on a cold winter's night. ... more   less
