This place and all the people working at it will remain in my memories for ever. The service, food, rooms and people are the best. The situation is one of the most beautiful places I heve ever been. I have just come back and its dry season, so I was very luck to see buffalos, elphants (right in front of...

Dear Abejul, Thank you for your beautiful review, we are delighted to see how much you enjoyed your stay with us as well as the amazing sightings you had, of both the Big 5 as well as the “Small 5” by the sounds of it. We hope these little buggers did not cause too much inconvenience in your room. The...

The camp is situated overlooking a large grassy wetlands with creeks-rivers and every beautiful room has an unbeatable view of all the animals and birds that take advantage of the grazing there. I was here during the dry summer season and there was still so much to see, including a lot of babies! The main area of camp reminded me...

Dear bogartazul, What lovely feedback! We are so pleased that you enjoyed the camp, the facilities, the food (admittedly dieting and safari do not often go together!) and of course, the staff - who love what they do and having the opportunity to share their world with others! We often to refer to this time of year as "Sensational Summer"...

Our second part of our honeymoon trip ended up at Jao. We were beautifully welcomed by Mr Johnny @ the airfield, who ended up being our guide for our 3 days there, and taken to the camp for a welcome afternoon tee snacks. The location, facilities and our villa were very pleasant although our villa was number 9 meaning the...

The staff were great from start to finish. Johnny our guide was very good and knowledgable, Charity and Jared were very helpful and so attentive. The place us stunning. They really went the extra mile to include a little bar at the runway while waiting to fly to our next camp. We'll be back..

Dear Chris H, Thank you for your fabulous review, we are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us and cannot wait to share your kind words with Johnny, Charity, Jared and all the staff in camp. Nicest camp that we stayed at in Botswana and all of our camps were first class. The setting is gorgeous with a Polynesian style with lots of woodwork in the main area. This camp combines the ability to ground safari and also water safari in Mokoro boats. It is worth doing the Mokoro. The food is first rate - and...

We went to Jao to relax in the bush. The big five etc.. are not our prime objective. Lovely boat drive with colorful birds. Hyenas calling at night. It is a great bush experience. Obviously on holidays, I do not carry a note book to write all tiny details of what is wrong. My God, I want to relax. The...

I have been to the best safari camps throughout Africa including the luxurious Londolozzi Granite and this camp is right up there. Great staff, great guides and very nice facilities. The complaints about not seeing large game in huge quantities is not surprising. The draw here is the Okavango river delta and the uniqueness of the water and its inhabitants....

Thank you johnbl1, for the wonderful review, we are delighted to hear what successful fishing expeditions you and MT had. Fishing is good year-round except January and February when fishing is barred by law – when we are unable to boat, we can still offer fishing from the riverbank. In winter we often catch very large tigerfish, and bream fishing...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A sophisticated and hidden Okavango Delta retreat.Located on a large island in the heart of the Okavango, Jao Camp’s individually handcrafted and luxurious tents look out onto the essence of the Delta – swathes of water, swaying reeds, leaping lechwe and dancing cranes. The main area is an elaborate two-storey wooden structure with lounge and dining area, two plunge pools, a library, curio shop and boma for dining under the stars, complemented by an excellent wine cellar. An award-winning spa and gym epitomise luxury in the most remote, scenically splendid setting.HighlightsJao’s position – amongst waterways and lagoons, yet close to dry Kalahari woodland – means you can enjoy both land and water experiences, depending on the time of year and the level of the waters that move ceaselessly through the area. Here, spectacular herds of red lechwe are followed by lion and leopard, while other game includes tsessebe, giraffe, elephant, hippo and crocodile, occasional sitatunga and regular spotted-necked otter. Experiences: Mokoro • Boating (seasonal) • Seasonal catch-and-release fishing • Day and night game drives • Seasonal hide for sleep-outs or game viewing ... more   less
