The owners run a tight ship here and everything at this resort is exceptional - from friendly service to delicious food, beautiful chalets nestled into tall palm trees and amazing activities you'll remember for life, like swimming with whale sharks and incredible deep sea fishing with experts. This stay was a real spoil and every need was taken of with...

My husband and I have just spent four nights at Butiama Beach and loved it. The bungalow accommodation was clean, extremely comfortable and very tastefully decorated with privacy from the other guests. The food was superb and the choice at mealtimes was good and the portions generous. The staff were courteous and helpful at all times. Snorkelling from a boat...

Beautiful place, situated directly on the beach, which was cleaned every day! Walking distance to Kilindoni, by the fishermen who landed with their catch every day - much activities to watch! The bungalows were great with a big porch to relax on, there was a hammock, couch and chairs to lay down and enjoy the view - colorful flowers and...

The minute we decided to come back to visit Africa again we reserved our spot at Butiama Beach. The place is simple and basic but has everything you need and then some. It is the perfect place if you need to get away to somewhere peaceful and quiet. We were there for 2 weeks and dived 10x and 14 x...

This is one of the best beach lodges I have stayed at in TZ and is a credit to owners, Maura and Moice - their hard work and attention to detail shows throughout all aspects of Butiama. The staff are fabulous - well trained in their jobs and very attentive to the guests. The food was excellent - lots of...

I agree that the whale shark proximity makes the place. Unfortunately the place claims to have a dive shop. While they technically do it isn't on site and is a 20-30 minute drive that they charge you for as well. Rooms are big and comfortable. Food is perfectly fine. I know it is cultural but people serving you food should...

Butiama Beach provided a great setting for a grand family vacation in Tanzania. The day trip organized by the hotel are well organized and priced smart. The drink and food service is excellent, particularly during dinner. In terms of the snack/light fare is good, but is not comparable to the culinary experience of Dinner. The bathroom amenities are great (Inaya...

Butiama is a nice lodge on Mafia Island, the rooms are simple but functional, and the views are perfectly relaxing. Moise & Maura run the lodge, we didn't see much of Maura but her husband Moise was kind and helpful. The rest of the staff were friendly and quick to say hello and ask how you're doing during your stay....

We visited Butiama twice because we like it so much. The beautiful rooms with seaview, the food and the hospitality where just as good as our first visit. Considering the isolation of Mafia island it's really something to be able to offer this constant quality of service, rooms, day trips, and drinks (try the cocktails!). Besides the whale sharks, the...

Butiama is more expensive but worth it if you can possibly stretch to it. Everything is tastefully finished by lovely Maura and Moyes and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Huge smiles. We always left our beautiful, quiet, private, beachfront bungalow unlocked with absolutely no concerns. Great day trips, floor less organisation. Picked up and dropped off from the...
