My husband and I stayed at Chole Mjini in early November – it was the last stop of our honeymoon in beautiful Tanzania. We could not have imagined staying anywhere else after our three night visit (you need AT LEAST three nights here!). From the initial tour of the location (amongst the ruins with many baobab trees) to our first... More

My husband and I are so happy that we visited Anne and Jean at Chole Mjini Lodge for 5 sublime days and nights at the end of a stunning safari trip in Selous and Ruaha. Chole Mjini Lodge is truly unforgettable, from the moment you step off the shore at Mafia Island and into the dhow boat that takes you... More

Our family of four spent four nights here at the end of a safari and diving holiday. I had done a lot of reading before hand, so thought I knew what to expect. The reality of living in this beautiful environment is hard to imagine, and so the experience was so much more than I expected. We loved every detail,... More

Our family of 8 absolutely loved our stay at Chole Mjini! The treehouses are simply magical, and are built among ancient ruins and baobab trees. You immediately want to remove your shoes and put up your feet on your deck, overlooking the mangrove forests. Underneath the stars, you dine family style with other guests and hear from the delightful owners... More

I went alone for a self-organized retreat and it was more than what I expected. Natural beauty was there, the chance to interact with people was there, good fresh food was there, historical and cultural experiences were there, clean well kept facilities and grounds were there, turtle hatching was there, and most importantly lovely hosts and staff was there. I... More

Absolutely 5*'s all around. Incredible location - such a unique experience that can not be found anywhere else. You live in sync with nature, in luxury surroundings. The tree houses are built within the beautiful, ancient African baobab trees and the garden suite is nicer than any suite in any 5* hotel! The song of red eyed doves that wake... More

We spent several days in this very nice small-scale lodge and slept in a luxurious tree-house. The location is really great: a small island that can only be reached via Maffia island (a complimentary 15 boat trip in a boat made by locals). The lodge is putting a lot of people from the islands only village to work and the... More

One reaches Chole Mjini by a 10 minute dhow trip from the island of Mafia, arriving at the Red Herring Bar (with wifi), the only place in Mafia to see the sunset with a drink in hand. The 10 minute walk to the reception area takes you through the old colonial (Arab and German) ruins around which this very eco... More

Thanks for taking the time to write this review. It was a delight to meet you both and we have fond memories of your visit to Chole. If you want to get away from it all, literally, this is the place. No wifi unless you take the short walk to the Red Herring bar by the shore. Every meal prepared by local staff. My wife celebrated her 65th there with a candle light dinner. Actually, every dinner is by candle light as there is no direct electricity.... More
