This was exactly the peaceful retreat I needed before climbing Kilimanjaro. The staff is incredibly helpful, the food was great, and we were treated very well. There are only a few guests at the ranch at once, so the service is exceptional. (One caution: watch out for the monkeys!)

We visited just for a days safari. We were able to use the lodges to shower after as we were off to the airport afterwards. We had a great lunch- a big party of us- 25. The food was delicious and so fresh. The safari was excellent- the driver spoke great English, and was extremely patient with us when we... More

I've been coming here since 2014 and it is still a wonderful place to be. Nice to see everyone again as well! The food continues to get better every year and the wine selection is good in comparison to other places. Went on a 30 minute walk and saw a whole family of Eland. There is also a baby bushbuck... We visited after doing a family partial hike of Kili. The area was remote, but absolutely incredible. We had 2 tents; king size suite Faru with fantastic views of Kili, and our boys were adjacent in Pofu, with 2 twin beds. Both tents provided a desk and sofa, a deck with seating, and en suite baths. Meals were served in... More

My brother and I stayed here for one night before departing for a Kilimanjaro climb. It is a classic safari lodge with a semi-permanent tent beneath a thatched roof that is very comfortable and well appointed in rustic safari style. Beds were comfortable. The bar and restaurant area was spacious and pleasant and dinner and the following morning's breakfast was... More

We spent a night at Ndarkwai right before beginning our trek on Kilimanjaro. What a wonderful place to relax and prepare before the big expedition! The staff is friendly, the accommodations luxurious - considering they are tents! - and the food is plentiful and tasty. Perhaps most fun of all, the place is surrounded by wildlife. In strolling the paths... More

The staff were friendly, food good, bar well stocked for a place so remote. Wifi available too which was a pleasant surprise. Loved the tented rooms. They were beautiful and simply furnished. Touches of African fabric liven the room up. Every amenity you could want! Plenty of animals in their natural habitat to see. Made for a well controlled filming... More

I just returned to Ndarakwai for the sixth year in a row, and while it is hard to believe, it keeps getting better. We started with a sunset trip to the "Treehouse", and waited while zebras, giraffes, warthogs, and wildebeest came for a drink at the watering hole. Night drives and a ranger-led walk at sunrise were highlights. It is... More

After 5 weeks working at FAME hospital in Karatu with side trips and safaris in the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Ngorogoro plusTarangire, I was ready for Ndarakwai Ranch. This place is amazing for so many reasons. I hope I can do it justice. First, the accommodations are top notch, 5 star all the way, in a fairly remote area. I had... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Started in 1994, Ndarakwai is a unique success story of land and wildlife rehabilitation, the first of its kind in Tanzania. With about 70 mammal species and over 350 bird species in a combination of high long grass plains, classic Acacia savannah, Commiphora thickets, and riparian habitats, a stay at Ndarakwai is a great addition to any safari itinerary. Ndarakwai Camp, with 14 large comfortable and individually decorated tents, is set at 4200 feet in the midst of an 11,000 acre privately-owned ranch in Siha District, West Kilimanjaro. Ndarakwai offers a high degree of personalized service, attention to detail, great food, as well as a wide variety of excellent wildlife related activities, cultural experiences, and excursions. What really sets us apart from National parks is our ability to offer half and full day walks with an experienced guide, as well as night game drives. These are two things you are not able to do in the parks. If it is birding on foot, or searching for nocturnal animals by spotlight, Ndarakwai is for you! Ndarakwai strives to be the best in luxury tented camping while maintaining the principles of responsible environmental stewardship. Extensive use of solar power (for electricity and hot water), the use of clay ovens for cooking, preference for local produce, combined with 11,000 protected acres of bush and woodland give confidence the camp is being established as carbon neutral. ... more   less
