Coming from Serengeti we climbed up the road to Ngorongoro Conservation - what a nice welcome at Rhino Lodge! From the balcony outside the restaurant we had wonderful views of the cloud forest. And a lone bull was roaming around. While dinner we were asked whether we wanted a fire to be lightened in our room which we gladly did....

Rooms very basic, but it's only to sleep, food really good and staff very nice. Room had fire in which was lit by the staff at night as it was quite cold, atmosphere of the place was really lovely. It was nice that you were able to eat meals with your Guide.

We enjoyed our stay and despite the cold night (yes, in Africa at high altitudes) we were comfortable. there was a stove with hot coal in the room and a warming fire place in the dining are. we even saw some waterbucks.

We were pleasantly surprised with Rhino Lodge. Considering it was a little chilly when we were there it was extremely warm and cosy. The room was simply decorated but had the nice touch of a fireplace. The shower was hot and fantastic. The main lounge restaurant area was very well done, with a large welcoming fireplace and couches. The food...

Rhino lodge was the best of the 3 places I stayed during my Serengeti visit - it even beat one of the luxury tented camps where I stayed. The atmosphere is very warm and the lodge manager is excellent. The food was wonderful and varied (my parents are vegetarian and they enjoyed the food as well). The lodge is very...

We stayed here recently for one night -- great location for game drives to Ngorongoro Crater. Buffalo in our backyard, a working shower, excellent service, great buffet dinners and breakfast, and a delicious box lunch -- a quaint and memorable lodge as part of our safari!

We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the crater. When we first arrived we were taken to our room and was shown how to use everything inside, the rooms are average however there is a log burner which the staff will light for you, if you wish to use it. We did and it was lovely and warm. It...

This lodge in right on the rim of the ngorongoro crater but with a view of the surrounding forests at a height of (I think) about 2000m. It can get cold a night and (if asked) the lodge will light a fire in your room...very cosy. Good service, good food and a convenient location near a particularly good part of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim. The Lodge was originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator, and its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting. Rhino Lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. Game drives into the crater, and, for the more adventurous, walking safaris in the forest reserve and visits to nearby Maasai villages, can all be arranged from the lodge. And, on return after a long day, 24 comfortable en suite rooms with forest views, a cozy living space, friendly local staff and generous African-inspired meals offer guests a warm welcome home. ... more   less
