After leaving an absolute dump and ripoff place around the corner from here. (Hotel Sans Souci) only one word to use about this place R.U.N.
I encountered this hotel on a odd chance and was very happy with my good luck that day.
A local told me that Velero is actually a condominium run as a hotel, and some of the condo owners live there full or part time. That may be why it had a quiet, homey feel. The entrance is tucked away in what looks like...More
We make an annual trip to Cabarete - our favorite Caribbean destination - and have been staying at Velero since we discovered it 8 years ago. Velero’s location can’t be beat - it’s right on the point with expansive views of the bay and ocean....More
For those of you thinking about staying in Cabarete. Let me just say, do it! It's a fabulous little beach community full of culture. May I also insist, you book your stay at Velero Beach Resort. Where I experienced top notch service while still getting...More
Nice, clean and quiet third floor room with a beautiful water view. Good price of about $120/night (then add in 30% tax!). These rooms are owned then rented out through the hotel so you might want to see a room prior to taking it. Our...More

Actually, they do have a small beach between the pool and the ocean (management has a photo with some blue chairs lined up by a short retaining wall - very true liking). The hotel grounds are a bit elevated, so there is a short retaining wall and three steps down to the beach. And miles of beach walking to either side of the hotel. Just have to go over some rocks (or swim) if you want to go to the left. I'm a beach person myself, but I loved this set-up. You are three steps up from the beach, so have a luxury of a great view and fancy beds and yet very close to the ocean and the sand if you wish to. We had no trouble having chairs down on the sand for a while and then coming back up. If you happen to be there during local holidays with hundreds of locals coming down to the beach (they are all public in Dominican), you'll really appreciate the option of being close to the ocean yet up within your resort, away from the crowd. There is a security guard usually standing at the stairs to the beach. They have an infinity pool overlooking the ocean, too, which makes it really nice... Gorgeous setting and very convenient. It gives you an option/ best of both worlds.

You can rent a car at the airport or hire a driver. We have several drivers that work with us, they are reliable, have new vehicles with wifi, and speak English. We can arrange your pickup at the airport, and return if you'd like. The drive from Santo Domingo is not bad, but if you won't need the car while in Cabarete, it's probably a better idea to use a driver.
