We had a great stay at Melia Punta Cana! On our second night, we got engaged over dinner on the beach at Steak and Lobster. Nelson was AMAZING! The beach and spa were phenomenal. It’s sometimes difficult to get a seat as people do grab towels and take chairs early in the morning, but we learned to get up early as well. It was a bit difficult making dinner reservations as you can book them 2 days out, so they can fill up before you’ve even checked in. That being said, the buffet was always an option and we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet! All in all, we had a wonderful time.

Hotel's Favourite
In a nutshell - the best overall resort experience I've ever had! Collectively, our group of 6 unanimously agreed. AND WE WERE NOT LEVEL. Just regular guests. So many reviews on this site are from Level guests so we really had no idea before we arrived of the non Level experience. As we were there for two weeks (Apr 1-15), I'll start with the most important reason the resort is so wonderful - the staff! To start our day, my friend and I went to the Balance Bar every morning for coffee/tea/smoothies and a few little pastries. YANELITZA, the barista there was amazing and always happy to see us!!! I enjoyed americanos with the odd cappucino every now and then and my friend, Yvette, had English Breakfast tea. We also enjoyed the smoothies from time to time which were fresh and fabulous as well as some of the specialty teas made daily. Now that I'm home, I'm wondering how I can survive each morning without that joyous start to the day where we sat in a beautiful airy breezeway with a colourful companion - the resident peacock - who would stop by to visit from time to time. A huge shout out to YANELITZA, our morning saviour who was some days accompanied by Adriana who was also lovely. To note, on the day we left, Yanelitza met us with a surprise delivery of our smoothies to the lobby! After the Balance Bar, we headed back to our room to get ready to hit the glorious beach. Our rooms were so very close to the lobby in building 19 (ours was 1916 - 2nd floor room overlooking the main thoroughfare to and from the beach and lush landscaping including a little lagoon with pink flamingos and other wildlife). We loved the location as at night, all the entertainment took place there and the evening buffet was a one minute walk. The peacock mentioned earlier took up residence in a tree near the room so we said hello along the way. The beach and pool were a short trolley ride away. They ran continuously and the drivers were always friendly and helpful. If we didn't want to wait, we walked - and the drivers would stop to ask when passing if we wanted a ride. Back to the room, we had everything we needed. Comfortable beds and pillows, a well stocked mini fridge and a sweet, young cleaner who took great care of us. Never any shortage of towels or toilet paper - the basics for sure but these are things we have had to fight to get at many other resorts. Beach towels were never an issue and if your towel went missing, the helpful staff at the front desk went out of their way to ease your mind and provide a new card. Customer relations at the resort were also amazing - Antonio and Armondo and several others truly went above and beyond to ensure we had the best guest experience. My friend will elaborate in her review on her interactions with both of these gentleman and others as she was their direct point of contact. The beach was our main retreat throughout the days and the pool from 5-7 pm was a great respite for our five o'clock Cosmo. Although there was some seaweed, it never hampered our ability to swim. The men on the beach worked tirelessly in the hot sun to clean it and we were in awe by their efforts. If you can, please show them some appreciation - they have very little. Beach chairs were never hard to find but a hut was more difficult...by noon, we could usually nab one but some days were harder and later than others. Activities at the beach and pool were many and varied such as mud cleansing, Pilates, yoga, dance lessons, spin bikes in the pool, aquafit, painting, paddle fit you name it! More about the animation team below...much more! As for the food quality/quantity, everywhere and anywhere we ate was divine. We all agreed, the best of any experience we have had. The breakfast and lunch buffets at the beach, the food truck by the pool bar, the dinner buffet by the lobby and all the restaurants we tried (we did the Vietnamese, the International, the Mediterranean, Quimera (thanks to Antonio/Armondo) and the Hacienda. We loved each and every one. We could have eaten at a few more a la cartes given we were there for two weeks but the buffet was soooooo good, we didn't bother. The pasta chef at the nighttime buffet deserves a special shoutout...he was quite funny and went out of his way to make a great pasta. LAST BUT NOT LEAST IS THE FANTASTIC ANIMATION TEAM - a VERY, VERY SPECIAL SHOUTOUT to our great friends JAVIER (my future son-in-law lol) AND CLAUDIO who were just the best humans (NOT TO MENTION DANCERS) and who even organized a surprise birthday party for our friend, Theresa. It took place in the "Zen" room (as we labelled it) in the main lobby. They spear headed the event with one of the lobby waitresses, "Queen Moon" (Rena) independently. The management was on board and also there to greet us after dinner with Claudio, Javier, Rena, Ningel and Coca Cola (aka) with champagne and cake and the best rendition of happy birthday. Javier and Claudio even purchased gifts for our friend from the hotel shop. She was in tears...and we could not believe how they had gone out of their way to decorate and organize the event. These people deserve soooo much credit. In the daytime, this team also led many of the pool and beach events. They work so hard but always took the time to talk and hang out. Fun, smart, respectful, talented and professional. They truly made our trip so memorable and are the main reason we'd definitely return. The animation team was led by their tireless manager, Pablo, who was anywhere and everywhere - very engaged and respected by his team - the quality of the entertainment he procured was stellar from top quality musicians to singers to shows. He and the animation team had the lobby jamming and dancing through the night. Special mention was the Silent Party which was a first for us and probably our favourite event besides the Walk Around the Moon event - something we hadn't heard of before. So fun. We danced pretty much every night away in the lobby. Special shoutout to the night bar gents who were superb - the waitresses - RENA AND MODESTO, and others who we came to know and love. These lobby teams were simply amazing during the entire two weeks. Also, not to forget JOSE at the beach bar who was the BEST. He hustled day in and day out and stood out for sure. Finally, our waitress in the lunch buffet who was in the corner near the grill and bar. Her name escapes me right now but my friend Yvette will make mention in her review. Do not hesitate to book this resort. the demographic was young to old. It truly fits the bill as a wellness resort but so very fun at the same time - we came back rested and rejuvenated (although we made the most of each and every day and night...)! A few final points: The grounds are spectacular in and of themselves. We felt very safe - security team did a great job, The maintenance and gardening teams were superb - always at work cleaning and pruning and so very friendly. Overall, we felt very welcomed and pampered. I can't say enough. We cannot wait to return. We hope to see you again next year! THANK YOU ALL. Love from the Halifax, Nova Scotia gals: Lynn, Yvette, Theresa, Heidi, Carol Ann and Gwen

After paying $495 per month for nearly a year, we tried to book our first vacation trip. We were told we CANNOT use the points we had already paid for. Then, we were told it would cost $1,030 (or $1,300) per person, per day - when we asked for clarification, we were hung up on. We did send an additional $517 as demanded. After a month, we STILL cannot get any kind of response - or refund - we had to cancel after already paying for plane tickets. Our e-mails and texts are ignored. This is a total scam. We have carefully documented every contact (which was brief) and e-mails and texts.

Had a wonderful break of one week at the Melia. We upgraded to the Level which I would recommend as the use of the Quimera restaurant and roof top bar was excellent. The hotel is very big and they cope very well with the amount of guests. Great bars and restaurants with good food choices. We ate in the restaurants opposed to the buffet as I am not keen on self service but the reviews I heard were that the buffet restaurants were very good. We had a ground floor garden view room which was spacious with a fabulous bed. Bath and shower. Hair dryer was really good. All of the staff are so friendly and helpful. The one slight issue is that people do get up very early and put towels on the sun beds. We are early risers so wasn’t an issue for us and we preferred the beach but for prime pool beds they went quickly. However that said you could always find a bed somewhere. We had the best time 10/10.

I am submitting my review again because I was annoyed with the reply from the hotel management. I have pasted my original review but I wanted the opportunity to respond to his reply. From the hotel management: "According to our records, we were able to notice that our team offered you options that best suited your preferences once you had contact with our guest service department. We can assure you that for us the most important thing is to offer options that adapt to the needs and preferences of everyone who visits us". I'm sorry but this is a blatant untruth. The first room was so poor that the safe couldn't be opened. The door was covered in rust and was jammed shut. The fixtures and fittings were dirty and tired, plus it had two single beds. It was obvious they had overbooked the resort and were trying to squeeze people in where ever they could. It took an hour and a half to check in and was just farcical. Bearing in mind we booked this holiday in February 2023, it baffles me how we ended up with this grotty room. We later found out they had tried to fob us off and others with inferior rooms. The room we were offered the next day was little better, with chipped furniture, stains on the couch and foot stool. It had the tiniest balcony I've ever seen. Bearing in mind we had paid £750/$1000 for a beach side Level luxury room with a terrace, not a balcony. Beachside! It couldn't have been further from the beach if they'd tried. When he says "the team offered us options that best suited our needs", the truth is it was a take it or leave it option. 815 was marginally better than 1207 but we didn't want to spend the rest of our holiday in two single beds. We decided it was best to just accept the situation and make the best of our holiday. However, the courtesy room we were offered before our flight home was beautiful. Lovely furnishings, with a terrace and close to the pool and beach. Exactly what we should have had from the beginning. There wasn't any hot water for us to take a shower but it's the Dominican Republic. I'll paste my original review, even though I could have been much harsher. When I said some of the staff couldn't be bothered, I was being charitable. I know everyone has their eyes fixed to their phones now but I think the management need to bring a 'no phones at work' policy. Because we were often ignored, even when we greeted them with 'buenos dias'. Most companies wouldn't accept that from their staff, so my view is that should also apply to anyone in the hospitality industry. We're all used to the 'copy and pasted' replies from hotels and restaurants on Tripadvisor. Most of the time we accept them, even though they are sometimes a little economical with the truth. But in this instance it got under my skin. Here is my original review: Being given the wrong room, which was so tired it should be refurbed immediately, to then be given another room that was little better, put a dampener on our stay from the start. We booked a beachside Level room that was supposed to have had views of the pool. We couldn’t have been further from the beach if they tried and had one of the tiniest balconies I’ve ever seen. Service was painful, with long waits for cold food, prompting some people to get up and leave out of frustration. Maybe we were just unlucky, as we spoke to people who had been going for years. I understand they are giving their loyal guests the best rooms and best service but where are their new loyal customers going to come from if they treat their new ones so badly? The only saving grace was the rooftop bar at The Level. The worst restaurant onsite was Quimera in The Level, that was supposedly their premium offering. My octopus came after 40 minutes, stone cold and should have had Pirelli stamped on the side of it. Nearly an hour later I was served warm lamb that didn’t taste of lamb at all. It was tasteless meat served with cold sautéed potatoes, one of the blandest meals I’ve ever eaten. The meal at the Vietnamese was much better but when we went again 3 days later it was truly awful and we had to wait one and half hours for that also. The best restaurant onsite was Calathea, so we went again and had an equally good meal. Because of that we went there for our last night but I was served cold fries that hadn’t even been cooked. That was the most frustrating thing of all, there just wasn’t any consistency. There’s a lot to love about Melia Punta Cana. The lobby and bar area are beautiful. The grounds throughout the whole resort are stunning and constantly tended to maintain that feel. Some of the staff are outstanding, while others are surly and can’t be bothered to be there. We stayed in The Level, which had a nice exclusive pool area. Staff brought out fresh fruit on skewers and regularly brought us drinks, making up for the poor experiences throughout the rest of the property. However, when we factored in the £750/$1000 upgrade fee for The Level, we just felt it wasn’t great value for money. Just to be clear, this hotel is not a 5*, it’s an ok 4*. Other reviewers who have stated it’s a fantastic 5* have obviously not stayed in a proper 5* hotel. We normally visit Dubai in January, as their hotels truly are 5*, with proper 5* service to accompany it. Next year we will be visiting Dubai again to ensure we get what we pay for. DR is always amusing and frustrating in equal measure. I’m all for DR time but our patience was tested far too many times on this holiday. Even our transfer to the airport was funny. They sent a 32 seat coach to pick just two of us up and thn dropped us off at the wrong terminal. And that was the final straw on the camels back for us I’m afraid. Never again.

I just returned from a four day trip to Melia Punta Cana with eight of my friends for our 50th birthday celebration. I will say the setting of the resort is spectacular. The grounds are amazing, the beach area is perfect, and the pool area is very large with plenty of seating. we did have an issue with booking restaurants when we arrive, but I immediately spoke to Ronny Redman, one of the guest service representatives, and I will say that he made our trip!!! I told him my concerns, and immediately he was able to get us into all of the restaurants for all of the nights that we were there. I was first told by another worker that nothing was available except for the last night we would be at the resort. I was very disappointed, but as soon as Ronny showed up, he rectified the situation, and we were very pleased with all of the Reservations we got for our stay. He was in touch with me the entire time while we were there and always happy to assist in anyway. Huge shout out for Ronny!!! All of the employees at the hotel were very friendly and very accommodating. I would not say one bad thing about the staff. The only negative I will say about the resort is the rooms definitely need some updating, some of the furniture is stained, and the buffet food was not that great. All of the restaurants, however, were very good.

We have been traveling to the Dominican Republic for 25 years. Stayed at many hotels and always upgrade to their premium services which we feel is worth it. Disappointed with this resort. Traveling with our adult children so our group is 9 of us. Vacation is to be a time of relaxation and put your phone away for the week. This resort forces you to use your phones. Everything is done by app only and I mean everything. The only way to communicate with your concierge is by What’s app. Android worked, I phones did not. So people in our party are out of luck. Only way to see menus is on your phone. The brochure they give you with the map….. well you better have mag light on your phone. They boast being a wellness spa, yet everyone has their nose in their phone even the staff. Very large and a ton of walking. I love to walk but my husband has a hard time walking. Shuttle service is excellent until they kick you off. Same driver has kicked us off where he wants, even though we asked him if he was going to the destination. This was a first ever. Brochure says premium drinks. Yes they have them but you have to pay extra. And yes we upgraded to the Level experience. Want a cabana on front row of beach, well that cost more too. Entertainment does not follow their posted schedule. Very frustrating. Was also told our party too big to eat together. Never had a problem anywhere else. So far he has been able to get us all together. We’ll see how the rest of the week goes. The food has been excellent. I cannot recommend this resort. To have to pay for drinks that have been included in any other resort, have to have my nose in my phone and everyone else’s is very dissapointing.
