Barceló Bávaro Beach boasts a beachfront location that many guests find exceptional, though the sprawling nature occasionally receives criticism. While the hotel offers a mix of vibrant entertainment and comfortable beds, reviewers warn that the atmosphere is sometimes marred by loud noises and the rooms can be outdated. Service and cleanliness garner mixed feedback, with some guests experiencing attentive care amidst reports of neglect. The hotel's value is debated, with the balance between cost and quality being a point of contention for some visitors.

This resort is absolutely beautiful. We stayed on the adults only side, which was less busy, but also has less amenities. The buffet was average at best, so we usually took the choo choo train over to the family side where the buffet was much larger and had much more selection. There was a huge variety of stores for shopping, and lots of things to do....mini golf, bowling, exit rooms, casino, the dolphin enclosure was just offshore, as was the pirate ship excursion....
The staff on both sides were extremely friendly and accommodating.
We did two sit down restaurants, the french restaurant was a disappointment, but the steakhouse was amazing.
We walked up the beach for a good distance and for sure the beach at our resort was the nicest, cleanest one.
The rooms were large, airy, clean, and the. beds were comfortable.
We were in building one, which faces the pool and bar area. If you are an early to bed early to rise kind of person, I would make sure to request another building as the nightly entertainment, from 8-11pm, is faced right at building one, and your room will vibrate with the bass. Something we didn't know before booking was that room sevice is an extra charge unless you upgraded to premium. This probably wouldn't have been an issue, but I fell ill with the flu and was in bed for 3 days. My husband couldn't bring me anything from the buffet, so we had to pay extra for fruit trays.
My one complaint regarding the hotel itself is that we were told we could not have a late check out. We were being picked up at 5:30pm and had planned a pool day and a shower before departing. Instead we had to dress for travel at noon. Because our room was on the ground floor, I had a look in the window at 5pm and the room was untouched, exactly as we left it, so there was no reason to deny us late check out, which costs $60. I brought this to the attention of guest services, but I doubt I will hear anything from them.

In closing, I cannot say enough good about this resort. 10/10 would definitely recommend!!

Dear Terriph, We appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our resort. We regret to hear about the aspects that did not meet your expectations. Our adults-only side is designed to offer a serene atmosphere with a more intimate setting, and we apologize if this resulted in a perception of fewer amenities. Regarding the buffet, we constantly strive to provide a variety of culinary options and we are sorry to hear that it did not live up to your expectations. We understand the inconvenience caused by the additional charge for room service when you were unwell, and we empathize deeply with your situation. Concerning the late check-out, we aim to accommodate such requests whenever possible; however, availability may sometimes be limited due to high demand. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve our services. We are delighted that you appreciated the exclusive shopping options, our diverse activities including mini golf and bowling, and the friendliness of our staff. It is wonderful to know that the quality and cleanliness of our beachfront impressed you, as well as the comfort of our airy and spacious rooms. Your kind words about the satisfying offerings at our steakhouse and the overall beauty of our resort are much valued. Additionally, we take pride in our location on one of the world's top beaches, and it's great to know that it contributed to a memorable experience for you. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back on future occasions. Best regards, Sandy Pfeil Director, Barcelo Bavaro Beach

The facilities are very well, hammocks in the pool and on the beach, clean towels are available as many times as you need or want, there is no daily limit. There are several buffet restaurants in the complex, you can go to anyone, plus you have other restaurants a la carte, just make prior Reservation, including everything in the price. Very rich and hearty food, replenishing continuously in the buffet. The very spacious rooms with terrace, with slippers and bathrobe, large bathroom as well and us the very comfortable and large bed, the air conditioning works very well, the hairdryer was spoiled as soon as we communicated they solved it in the moment. There is a casino, a nightclub, shops of all kinds... Inside the complex you can move on a train, it passes every few times through the reception area. The pools are always clean and with the pool bar inside. The best thing about all the bracelets you wear is a splash with which you open the door of the room you do not have to carry the card all the time. Overall it is very quiet, rests very well!

Positives and negatives, Positives, the food is excellent in all restaurants and buffet, the site is extremely well maintained and very quiet for someone who needs to rest, the room was very clean and the bed in the room was very comfortable. The beach is very well maintained, there is a tractor that comes by every morning to collect the seaweed and as we are at the end of the beach, there is no seller who comes after us every 5 minutes... Wonderful. Negative points, the rooms are rather old style like in Cuba, with an old shower bath and a huge problem with changing the water temperature when you have a shower which goes from icy to boiling, which in 2024 is unacceptable when you pay that price. For the beach, the hotel is located opposite the dolphin pool, so all afternoon you will hear around fifteen boats with their music on the carpet passing in front of the hotel. It's not great but at least there's no salesman. Still, I recommend this hotel, we stayed 10 days and came back refreshed. Happy Holidays

We went in 2019 to celebrate my birthday and had an amazing time. Due to covid and other circumstances we had to delay our return until 2025. We were so looking forward to receiving the same 5 star treatment we experienced in 2019. Unfortunately our experience was anything BUT VIP. We were promised a private car to take us from the airport - it never arrived and we had to beg a ride from another van going to our resort. Our ocean view room was amazing, but the cleaning standards have definitely gone downhill. We requested extra washcloths (and tipped well) and received 0 washcloths as a result. Luckily we had brought some from home and eventually they did put the requited two back in our room. The fridge in our room was never refilled despite calling the front desk and the VIP concierge and requesting it. Any issues that we brought up were completely ignored. The staff at the Chez Gourmet was dismissive (bordering on rude) and the food was cold both nights that we ate there. We were assured by the AirTransat staff that we would be picked up and taken to the airport, but once again we were forgotten and after waiting over an hour, had to get a cab and race to the airport in order to catch our flight. We are still trying to get our money back for the cab fare. We spoke to other guest at the hotel pool who agreed that the resort has gone downhill and needs an update - the bathrooms are especially bad. We will definitely not be returning.

Dear Susanre, We appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us. We are truly disheartened to hear about the issues you encountered. We strive to ensure every guest enjoys a seamless and relaxing experience, starting with the arrival process. We deeply regret to learn about the mishap with your airport transportation and the oversight with the minibar replenishment. Moreover, the standard of room cleanliness you described does not reflect our commitment to guest satisfaction, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We also understand the importance of attentive service and are sorry to hear that our team did not deliver the level of hospitality we pride ourselves on at Chez Gourmet. Despite these concerns, we are delighted that you enjoyed the ocean view from your room, which we believe is one of the highlights of our resort. It is also our pleasure to provide a serene adult-only environment, ideal for those special getaways. We hope these aspects, along with our picturesque beachfront location on Bávaro Beach, helped create some positive memories during your stay. We hope you were able to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of our beach, consistently ranked among the top in the world, and the variety of facilities and activities available at our resort. While we understand your decision regarding future stays, we would welcome the opportunity to restore your faith in Barceló Bávaro Beach - Adults Only All Inclusive. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back on future occasions. Best regards, Sandy Pfeil Director, Barcelo Bavaro Beach

My recent stay at the Barceló Bávaro Beach Hotel left a mixed impression on me. There were highlights that I enjoyed, but also some notable issues that I think the hotel should address to improve the overall guest experience.

Firstly, I would like to mention the cleanliness of the rooms, an area that I think needs significant improvement. The rooms were not as clean as I would have hoped, and seemed to need more meticulous attention. Additionally, the rooms seemed somewhat worn and aged, which made them less attractive.

An additional drawback was that the hair dryer in my room did not work, which was an unexpected problem.

As for food, the restaurant at the Beach Hotel did not meet my expectations. Most of the time, I opted to walk to the Barceló Bávaro Palace in search of a better quality meal. I definitely think that the hotel should focus on improving the quality and variety of its gastronomic offering.

One detail that negatively affected my experience was the construction on building #3, which appeared to be a Swim-Up pool. This construction began early in the morning and disturbed guests who were trying to rest nearby.

Another point to mention is that the hotel does not allow Uber or private transportation services to enter the facilities to pick up guests. Instead, you must take a golf cart to the "Main Gate" to get your private transportation. This is a drawback in modern times and could be improved for guest comfort.

On the other hand, I must highlight that the tours offered by the hotel are excellent and I really enjoyed those activities.

As for the shows at the hotel, I think they could be improved to offer a more exciting experience.

The service provided by Rafael from the luggage department was outstanding and deserves praise.

I also want to mention the waiter Omar at Kyoto Restaurant (Teppanyaki), who provided exceptional service and stood out during my stay.

However, I found it unfair that my partner was denied entry to the restaurant for breakfast and dinner due to a dress code issue, while other people were being less strictly controlled regarding the dress code.

Finally, I think the hotel could improve communication with guests by providing a more complete explanation of all the amenities available during the stay. This would save guests from having to figure it out themselves and would improve the overall experience.

In short, my experience at the Barceló Bávaro Beach Hotel had its ups and downs. I hope that the hotel takes these constructive comments into account to improve and provide a more satisfactory experience to its future guests.

Travelled with my sister for a week away from winter. Overall, I would rate the resort 4 stars. Our room was clean, but not updated, and some finishes were hastily done (poor painting/caulking in the bathroom, makeshift handle on sliding door). The beds were comfortable and we opted for ceiling fan over air conditioning and that kept the room very comfortable. We were always supplied with towels, bottled water and coffee pouches. The first few days were very quiet, with not many poolside activities. Stretching, dance lessins and crazy games were in the beach. I personally think it would be a good idea for the entertainment team to make announcements by the pool when activities are about to begin on the beach, to get more people involved. There is a schedule by the towel hut, and you can scan a code and have it on your device. We didn't have issues finding pool chairs, even though resort seemed to fill up as it got closer to the weekend.
Food at the buffet is typical for a 4 star AI. Do not rely on staff to bring you coffee or a refill, even if you ask in Spanish. There are coffee machines. Lunch at Las Brisas is a 2 minute walk from the adult pool and is a much smaller setting, with nicer views. (Also buffet for lunch). A la carte dinners exceeded my expectations in taste, presentation and service. I do wish that there would not be ashtrays on the tables to allow for smoking on the terrace of the restaurants. Non smokers also want to enjoy their meal without second hand cigar and cigarette smoke. More defined smoking and non smoking areas should have signage. If you happen to get pool chairs in between smokers....or want to enjoy a show at night...the smokers just sat where the very few tiny non smoking signs were and disregarded other guests' comfort.
The white powdery beach is great for walks, relaxing, participating in activities and enjoying the breeze. The ocean was warm and safe to swim.
Shows started too late for us...10pm at the adult and family side. We liked the rock band and Michael Jackson show.

Dear Cooper, Thank you for your review. We regret to hear about the issues you encountered with the condition of your room and the service shortfalls you experienced. We understand the importance of attention to detail and prompt service, and we apologize for any inconvenience these may have caused during your stay. Furthermore, we acknowledge your concerns regarding the presence of ashtrays on the restaurant terraces and the impact this has on non-smokers. Your comfort and enjoyment are paramount to us, and we take your observations seriously. We are delighted that you enjoyed the comfort of our beds and the consistent replenishment of towels, bottled water, and coffee pouches in your room. It is great that our beach activities and the availability of pool chairs added positively to your experience. Moreover, we are pleased that the taste, presentation, and service at our a la carte dinners exceeded your expectations, and that you could appreciate the beauty and enjoyment of our renowned beachfront location. First time staying here. Overall we were satisfied. I made the mistake of reading the most negative reviews after booking, and so was pretty apprehensive. Happy to say the bad reviews are much too critical. Like anywhere there is good and not so good.

Room Pros: The bed in our room was huge and very comfortable, the A/C was great - combined with the ceiling fan it was super cool and great for sleeping. The A/C was also quiet. Housekeeping was prompt - room was always cleaned before noon, and cleaned well.
Room Cons: If you care about it, the decor is dated. We don't spend much time in the room, so it's not a big deal to us. The shower is not great. They should really get rid of the bathtubs altogether (does anyone take a bath at a resort?) and install walk-in showers with modern shower heads. I'm not super tall, but i had to crouch under the shower that was there.
Food Pros: Good variety of restaurants, food ranged from average to very good. Breakfast buffet had plenty of options.
Food Cons: Inconsistent from day-to-day, even if you go to the same restaurant and order the same thing the next day, it might not be prepared as well as the previous day. Set your expectations accordingly. Take the harsh reviews about food with a grain of salt (pun intended!). We've been all over the Caribbean and you're not going to find Michelin Star level food at any resort.
Pool/Beach Pros: Pool is massive, and seems well maintained and clean. They claim to have rules against reserving chairs, but they were never enforced. Everyone did it. The pergolas provided just the right amount of shade. The beach is nice, but it's VERY breezy (at least while we were there) which is maybe why they don't provide any umbrellas or coverings. We're typically beach people, but the wind got to us, so we retreated to the pool which is more sheltered.
Staff: Hit and miss. Most are friendly, but many don't speak english. We had a couple weird encounters with staff who's job is to circulate among the guests and get them excited for an upcoming event or whatever. One guy sat down next to us, and the conversation turned borderline inappropriate and made us feel very uncomfortable. He really over stayed his welcome until I made it clear we were done talking - that was a huge turn off.
Overall, we felt we got good value for our money and enjoyed our stay.

Dear Corey, Thank you for your review. Our rooms are uniquely designed with an open floor plan which we understand is a question of personal taste. We are sorry that the bathroom was not to your satisfaction. We are however happy to know you made the most of your time with us. We are equally delighted that you appreciated the efforts of our chefs as we strive to satisfy the many culinary wishes of our guests by offering tasty international and local dishes. Thank you for highlighting the comfort of our beds; we understand that a comfortable and satisfying nights' sleep is a top priority for our guests, therefore we pay close attention when it comes to choosing the mattresses for our beds. Thorough cleaning is an absolute must for Barceló and we thank you for highlighting the high standards of our hotel; we strive to give total confidence in this area, being fully aware that this is of the utmost importance particularly in these difficult times. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Best regards, Sandy Pfeil Director, Barcelo Bavaro Beach

Horrible food. Actually lost weight because the quality of food is poor. Buffets only until dinner-in open areas so the flies/ gnats swarming you and your food. Service at buffets for water, coffee, beer was lacking.
There is only ONE a la carte dinner restaurant here and men have to wear pants. All other dinner restaurants are on the Palace side of resort . You must make reservations for any of these a la carte dinner spots no matter what side of resort you stay.

My adult children had a room beside ours and no towels for bathing on day one. Day 2 their room was cleaned but again, never got towels and they had to go get them in lobby.
Day two we were gone from 8-5pm on an excursion and my husband and I came to a room that had not been cleaned and no towels replenished. Called & requested towels so we could shower for dinner reservation. 1 hr later still no towels. Called again asking to speak to supervisor. The woman on the phone asked me what I needed. I explained my room was never cleaned, no towels and need to shower. She said she’s alerting supervisor right away….
Needless to say it was still a long wait, missed our reservation and ended up in lobby for towels. Absolutely unacceptable.

A beautiful beach, they do a great job of cleaning any small amount of sargassum that has come in. No beach service for drinks. No swim up pool bar on adults resort.
Save your money and disappointment and go elsewhere .

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. We are sorry that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. We understand that the quality and variety of food we offer is essential to an enjoyable stay, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations in this regard. Our buffet areas are designed to provide a diverse culinary experience, and we are disheartened to hear about your encounter with flies and gnats, as well as the service shortfall you experienced. We continuously strive to deliver exceptional service, and it is clear that we fell short during your visit. Moreover, we regret the inconvenience you faced regarding our dinner dress code and reservation system at our a la carte restaurant. We aim to provide a sophisticated dining environment and apologize if this aspect did not enhance your experience. We also deeply apologize for the oversight with housekeeping in your and your children's rooms. Ensuring our guests have a comfortable and carefree stay is a top priority, and we are disappointed that we did not deliver on this occasion. Nonetheless, we are pleased that you found our beach to be beautiful and well-maintained. Our team works diligently to ensure our beach remains pristine and inviting for all our guests. Additionally, we recognize that beach and poolside service are important aspects of a relaxing vacation, and we will take your feedback into account as we continuously improve our guest experience. We hope we can welcome you back in the future. Kind regards, Sandy Pfeil Director, Barcelo Bavaro Beach

The hotel is fine, not too big but has everything to enjoy a quieter holiday. It is also true that it needs a remodeling mainly in the bathrooms of the rooms, which are somewhat old. The beach very well, with turtles swimming close to people, most days hardly without algae and they take care of it leaving it well clean from the early morning. Although they sell you the beach as private, keep in mind that it can be accessed by anyone in the immediate vicinity and daily settled local families with their children in the adults only area, as well as people from other hotels and nearby. I guess it's because this area is cleaner and more cared for.
The food is fine, enough in variety and quality (you notice that they take more care not to put too much food to not waste it). The attention of the staff, some very well, helpful, polite and attentive; others... seems to be angry or burned with the work. We did a quad bike tour and to Catalina Island and they were perfect (we have been to Punta Cana more times). It was 12 days of sunshine, rest and relaxation, although when we wanted a little animation we went to Palace, which is just over 5 minutes walk inside the same facilities.

For the price this is a great resort! The beds are really comfortable, the pool and beach are wonderful. The rooms are old, but clean and spacious. When packing, keep in mind the iron may not work and the hair dryer is not the best. We were disappointed there wasn't a fitness center or spa in the adult only section. The staff is warm and friendly. It is a good opportunity to practice Spanish; most employees helped us correct our pronunciations when we asked. The in-room mini bar only has beer, sodas, water and peanuts. We wish we had brought some wine or spirits for the room. Bringing some snacks from home for the room would be a good idea, too. People mark off the pool chairs for the day, so you have to get your towel out there pretty early if you want one in the shade. Bed linens are great. Towels are shabby. The Mamey Bar in the lobby is the best place to get drinks. La Brisa is the only restaurant that servers spirits in addition to beer/wine. Make dinner reservations as soon as you arrive, the buffet will get old quick and it is nice to have some variety. Finally, bring lots of singles. Tipping bar tenders, servers, and housekeeping is a good idea. First, they appreciate it and second they remember you. :) Relax and Have Fun!

I was there last year, going again in a few weeks. There was no toothpaste, of that I am certain. There was shampoo and body wash, I believe. I can't recall if it was a "2 in 1" Shampoo/conditioner or if they were separate. I will look to the Facebook Fan page for answers on that.

Not sure about the 2 bedrooms but we always get adjoining rooms, which I guess is the same thing. Just remember to mention when booking.

We just came back from there Pool chairs always reserved by 9 am. Very windy and rain a couple days. Food was the problem there buffet were the same every meal and very salty and bland and they will serve the same thing over and over again I lost 8 pounds there. LOL Golf you need to do online and not at the resort booked 3 months in advance. The Big Palace the food was bland and salty there just remember it's a 3rd world country so don't expect too much. A/C leaked in bathroom and by the bed.

This was our second time, and it wasn't that good. The buffet had the same things over and over if not eaten first day, then served again and very salty. Pool chairs were always taken by 8:00 am and it is very windy there. The bigger palace had restaurants, but they were not that great just not American food no spices. If you play golf you have to make reservations online and not at the hotel its completely separate and they are booked usually 3 months in advance. My suggestion go to another place Mexico, Jamica, but not there it is a 3rd world country and food was very bland. We stayed 2 weeks to long maybe 8 days is enough I lost 8 pounds there. LOL . Also, A/C leaks water from condensation so be careful floors are very slick.

Only one pool on adult side. There are a few activities like aqua fit every other day, dance lessons, morning stretching and beach volleyball (looks like serious players). Entertainment starts at 10PM on both Beach and Palace side. We saw the Rock show, which was good. Haven't stayed up to watch other shows. You have access to a la carte at the Palace side. We were lucky to get a different restaurant for each of the 7 nights. There are a few with a surcharge of $15us pp, (menu looks similar to the included ones) and a few that are open only to premier guests.
