Orchha homestay is a collection of different villagers homes with rooms for a homestay. It's a really interesting NGO initiative that enables travellers a really interesting and unique insight into what life is really like in rural India and also provides an important income stream for poor families. The accommodation was more basic than I'm used to but it was...

That's exactly what the home-stay is meant to be - a plunge into the life of an Indian family and an additional source of income for families in need. We try to make sure that children in Ganj don't bother visitors by asking for things and I'm sorry to hear you were not left in peace in Orchha. As for...

I struggle to explain my appreciation of the privilege I was given to be welcomed into this small community. It was an amazing, humbling but thoroughly enjoyable & relaxing experience. My hosts [THE PATTCHELL FAMILY] were the most gracious hosts I have ever had the pleasure of staying with [and I travel a lot!] - I will be forever in...

The Panchal's will be so happy to hear this - thank you so much for this wonderful feedback. When one connects the way you apparently have, its enriching for both hosts and guests. Our host families have been receiving guests since 2009, but each encounter is still special for them - no formalities, no pretence - they are as they...

We had the perfect stay with the Yadav family - I just wish we could have stayed longer. The project is extremely well-run and impactful on the lives of the local families involved, providing them with a much needed source of income enabling them to improve their homes and livelihoods. Our room was beautiful and spacious with cosy duvets to...

Dear Sophie, This is the best gift you could offer your host family and us - thanks so much for your appreciation and recommendation. We will share your comments with Surendra, Kiran and the girls. So glad you appreciated our warm, cotton quilts and the food as well. Reviews like yours are a great source of encouragement and the more...

Stayed for 2 nights and wished we had planned for a longer stay. Our homestay family were fantastic. We had the opportunity to eat and interact with the family. The homestay is about 1km from Orchha but we really enjoyed our walks into town. If your planning on being in Orchha I would encourage you to get involved as this...

Thanks so much for your encouragement. We believe that tourism should contribute towards raising the living standards of the locals, particularly families that struggle to find employment. The host families have tripled their incomes through this programme. It has allowed them to build an extension to their homes, to pay for medical expenses and for the education of their children....

My parents and I spent 2 nights (including New Year's Eve) with Mukesh's family. We had the best time of our Indian holiday there and we had the chance of tasting special food, drinking an incredible tea and playing with kids! A piece of our hearts will always be there. Thanks Asha and Romi for giving us this opportunity and...

I can't praise this initiative highly enough. It gives much needed income to poorer families in town and offers their children an opportunity to receive a good education. It's also invaluable in offering both guests and hosts a chance to see how the other lives. The set up is professional, the accommodation more than adequate and the experience unforgettable. Deep...

And we can't thank you enough for your recommendation. We're glad to give visitors to Orchha the opportunity to experience daily life in a local family. For the host families it is not only a precious source of income, it's also a way of getting to know about places they will never visit. Thanks to some of our guests, we...

I was there for four nights and really enjoyed my stay. The family was friendly and welcoming. I saw a few rooms in the village and they are all a lot more comfortable then expected: big, airy and seperate from where the family live. The village is located just outside Orchha, a pleasant 15 minute walk. Romi also helped me...

That's the best Christmas gift we could wish for ... a warm recommendation! We built or renovated a room in the court yard of the family and made sure that windows were placed to keep the room well ventilated and bright. We've also used a technique for building the walls that improves insulation of the rooms. So the host families...

Orchha was the experience we were looking for. Staying with mukesh's family, his 3 kids and his mother, was a window into life in small town india. the kids were extremely helpful and fun to play with, and kamela (the grandmother) cooked up some delicious vegetarian meals. This is the place to stay when visiting Orccha. The rooms are rustic,...

It's so encouraging for us to get reviews like this. We will certainly share it with Mukesh's family and Romi too, who has joined us only recently. We try to balance authenticity and comfort and the families benefit so much from the encounter with people from all over the world. Do keep in touch and come again sometime.

Asha had warned that late June would be very hot. In fact, activities had to be limited to before 10 am in the morning and after 5pm in the evening. And there were frequent power cuts and general water shortage. We still made the most of it. We were staying with Mukesh's family - four of us - me and...

Thanks so much for this beautiful, warm-hearted review. I was worried about how you would manage in the heat. Many thanks for your appreciation of our work and your good wishes. It's great that you could communicate with your host family despite their limited English and enjoyed the food they prepared. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Stay with a local family & discover India differently. Orchha is a great place to relax in and discover 16th century monuments. We offer clean and comfortable rooms, furnished in traditional style, built in the courtyard of the host family. The rooms have fans and mosquito nets and the bathroom & toilets are ecological. The family provides home-cooked food and kids have plenty of playmates. The home-stay is a 25 minute walk from the palace. We also have bicycles on rent. This is a social enterprise allowing poor families to benefit from tourism and visitors to see how most families in India live today. Call it responsible tourism or eco tourism - your visit will improve the lives of many and be an experience to remember. ... more   less
