We stayed in a number of Paradors years ago and only recently returned when they started accepting dogs. However I take issue with the €20 charge, firstly dogs are generally cleaner than kids running riot and secondly the management states it is for extra cleaning which is difficult to understand. Either the place is clean or it is not surely the housekeepers clean all surfaces irrespective, what do they not clean if a dog has not stayed? Clean means clean so are they saying it is somewhat less clean if a dog has not stayed previously? On a recent trip, we stayed in 4 Paradors in total and all were spotless. The staff were efficient and the location of 3 were excellent. When we last stayed in Paradors the food was exceptional but sadly all four were not up to expectations and from my own observations most guests had more savvy and ate elsewhere. Shame really as this was a major part of our decision to have half board. Night one Parador de Manzares Pros: Rooms clean, staff in restaurant wore masks. Cons: This should not be a Parador, it is situated by a noisy road, it lacks maintenance, lacks atmosphere and the food was disappointing. Would never stay here again. Night 2 Parador de Jarandillo de La Vera. Pros: Great location, nice size room and very clean. Cons: Food disappointing. Night 3 Parador de Guadaloupe. Pros: Really lovely Parador, Clean rooms, nice size great location, nice garden. Cons: Food disappointing. We did encounter a problem with the bathroom in that when taking a shower or using the Bidet all the water flooded into the bedroom and it took all the towels and 20 minutes to mop it up, We did not report it until our departure as it was late at night and did not want the upheaval of moving rooms. The staff were very apologetic and friendly and I accept things go wrong at times, however, I would have thought someone from management would have contacted us. Having said all that we would stay here again. Night 4 Parador de Zafra. Pros: Really lovely Parador, Cleans rooms, nice size great location. Cons: Food disappointing. Summary, we were excited at being able to take our dog who has stayed in numerous 4 and 5 star hotels. We really enjoyed the location and splendour of some of the Paradors and very much wanted to enjoy their restaurants but the silly dog charge and the disappointing restaurant food put a damper on our trip.…
In Spain, a parador is a state run hotel, usually in historic sites, or in scenic areas. The one here is truly a piece of history. The castle, built in the 1400s, is situated in the center of the town, built on a hill that was once the site of a fortress built by the Knights Templar. Emperador Carlos V lived in the castle for a short time while waiting for his residence at nearby San Yuste to be completed. The building itself is gorgeous, with towers, arches, a grand entrance, and a large interior courtyard. My eyes were wide as each turn of my head revealed yet another amazing detail at this magnificent palace. I checked in, was given the weighty keys to my room, and told how to get there. I turned the key, and opened the heavy door to find a spectacular room. A large bed, with two fluffy robes greeted me, as well as two comfortable chairs by the small window. The bathroom was large and divided, with a jetted tub and double sinks. I slept well in the comfortable bed, and checking in and out was very easy. The on site, and free, parking is a plus. If you are looking for an out of the way place to relax, and enjoy Spain without always being on the go; this seems like the perfect place…
We knew that the town of jarendilla de la Vera is small and non descript so what a delight to find this little gem to hide away within for a night ! We checked in and met in the bar thirty minutes later with our free drinks is voucher as amigo holders! The courtyard is a delight and could have sat there all night - we had a stunning view from a fully opening window in a charming superior room - even the bath room had a great wee view into a mountain ! As we didn’t explore the restaurants of the twin we wanted to try the parador hotels offering for night time eating ! The room was beautiful very evocative if the historic building and food had extranaduran fare! We also ordered extra Madura wine - after dinner we retreated to the quiet little bar and from there upstairs to the balcony over looking the courtyard and the residents lounges - you must try these out - with drinks in hand of course ;-) To be recommended Also …the barman poured our tonics into our gins using a twist spoon shaft very nice touch he also served a few sweet jellies with our drinks which went down well I noticed the recorion area had a little cupboard if things to buy and bought a souvenir parador hotel key ring in the same style only smaller of all parador hotel room keys! Not all paradores have these facilities so if you are interested have a good look around the reception area! You never know what you will lick up as a gift !…
We spent three nights here and the Parador is as breathtaking as it appears in photos . Set in a quaint village it is a haven of peace and tranquillity . The 3 hour drive from Madrid was certainly worth it . A few issues however . Upon arrival we had to drag our heavy suitases across the courtyard and then up 2 flights of stairs . There was no help with this and no porters available. Only some rooms are serviced by a lift so best to book one of these. The other issue is that the grass at the swimming pool was long and would not have been mowed in 2 weeks. The rails at the pool steps where one enters the pool are rickety and unsafe. Management should get the porterage and the pool area sorted out.
The location is attractive and the environment of the building really strongly established from the entrance onwards. The rooms are large and very comfortable and the garden and swimming pool very convenient for families.
Out of the three places where we stayed during our trip through the Extremadura we liked the Parador in Jarandilla best. The location and the place itself is really special, with a large beautiful courtyard, close to (above) the town. It's a bit like an oasis when you come in, quiet and restful. We were happy with our room although it wasn't very spacious. It was in the new wing and had everything we needed except for an elevator and a tea/coffeemaker. The beds were super comfy, the view was beautiful, there was a little sitting corner, a TV and closet and the wifi worked well. The bathroom was very spacious with a nice tub and two sinks and bidet - just perfect. We dined at the restaurant twice and found the food delicious, with lots of local specialties to choose from. It's nice that the bar is almost always open for drinks and smaller snacks. The breakfast selection was very nice as well with local cheeses and lots of choices of fresh delicious things. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. There is convenient parking right by the hotel and we really enjoyed exploring the surroundings, including the Greda mountains, Valle del Jerte, Plasencia, the little villages and Yuste from there. We'd love to come back, hopefully soon!…
Our stay was very comfortable and it was good to be able to stay in a Parador with our dog. The building is wonderful and the staff are very friendly. We had an excellent dinner and aperitivos before our meal. Would recommend the hotel to anyone.
Our experience staying with a pet was that we were a nuisance for the staff, they were not equiped to deal with guests that are not the love couple or traditional Spanish family. We are international travellers with a dog, therefore we have no right to complain and if we do they have no skills to offer solutions or at least an apology. We’ve been to many other Paradotes, perhaps less popular, and the staff were amazing. Please get this team some training!!
We loved the historic aspect of Jarandilla! The central patio is lovely and the large, atmospheric living room that overlooks it is a fantasy space to relax (especially on the rainy day that we got). All the staff we met were friendly and efficient and we especially enjoyed eating in the restaurant; the plate of charcuterie and cheeses are an excellent flavour of the area. Some of the rooms seem to have been modernised. Ours was very comfortable and spacious in the newer wing of the building with all the usual comfort that you would expect of a Parador. The area's great for walking and this Parador, former temporary home of the emperor Charles V, is an exciting and luxurious way to enjoy it.
At the outset the staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful. The rooms were very good and the food was excellent. The location is good if you are taking your time when driving across country.
