Jean and Ray exude a warmth that is infectious. You are made to feel most welcome and fed a great evening meal (there isn't anything around,) so make sure you communicate with Jean about dinner at booking. Great first night's stop on St. Cuthbert's way.

We stayed for bed and breakfast in this wonderful guest house. We were allocated the Lodge which is self contained and would be excellent for travellers looking for a base from which to explore the Scottish Borders. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners Jean and Ray. First class service fro wonderful people.

I travel throughout the U.K. regularly and visit Jean and Ray 3 or 4 times a year. Each time I visit I receive the warmest of welcomes and I look forward to each visit. The breakfasts and evening meals are always to be looked forward to and make the stay even more of a treat. The rooms are comfortable and... More

A B & B, but more of a luxury spa. Excellent location, with an impaccable service. This old school, with picture of old classes let think back to old days. The service from the owners is hardly to find to day, with food prepared my the lady of the house what deserves two Michelin Stars. The breakfast is of very... More

We were greeted with a warm welcome from both Jean and Ray after a long and exhausting walk from Melrose, as we reached the end of our first day on the St Cuthberts Way. The comfort of the house, the evening meal and breakfast were excellent and and all served to endorse the previous reviews of Crailing Old School. We... More

The first sight that greeted us as we walked the last half-mile of our day's walking from Melrose was a line of flagposts marking Crailing Old School. Alongside the Scottish saltire, the Union flag and the Devon flag marked the country we were in, the nationality of the visitors and the Devon roots from which our hosts had originally come.... Yet another traveller on St Cuthbert's Way and blessed to have found such a hospitable place to stay for my first night after a driech day. Jean gave a warm welcome along with lashings of tea in front of a warm log fire; perfect for tired legs to sink into the comfy sofa. Dinner was excellent, beautifully spiced parsnip soup,... More

Just stayed here whilst walking the St Cuthberts Way. It was superb. The accommodation and food were fantastic. Jean's cooking was better than most fancy, expensive restuarants. Nothing was a bother for the wonderful hosts. We could have easily stayed longer.

We too had a tiring first stage of the St Cuthbert’s Way and arrived at this paradise in the middle of nowhere. We were welcomed by Jean and ushered into the comfort of the maple room. After a shower and time to relax we dined on perfectly steamed asparagus on which nestled lightly poached quails eggs, followed by chicken breasts... More
