Hotel's Favourite

We spent seven nights at the Calabasas Hilton Garden Inn. It was our 4th stay at this property over the years. We have enjoyed it each time, but this stay was our favorite.

The property is clean, current, and in an excellent location within very easy walking distance to the Calabasas Commons. Parking is free. Rooms are generously sized and housekeeping is available upon request. Common areas are spacious. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel each morning, sampling both the continental and full (made to order eggs, omelets, pancakes, etc.) buffets. Rene took good care of us each day.

What made this stay extra nice were our interactions with Eric, the front desk manager. He was excellent in every way—from initial phone calls, to accommodating special requests, to making sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We noticed that Eric treated each hotel guest professionally and personably. He sets the tone for the rest of the front desk staff, and his efforts should be recognized by hotel management.

We will definitely return to this Hilton Garden Inn, and we recommend it without reservation.

Beautiful Hotel. Stayed here quite often. Dog friendly with new dog park! What a surprise!!! I was greeted with a welcome goodie bag with chocolates, washable face masks, sanitizer and bottled water!!! Even though that due to Covid 19 the restaurant and bar had limited services however the staff was very accommodating and always had salads, sandwiches, burgers fries and beer and wine available for the guests.

Great location with beautiful landscaping.

I spent a night on a required business stay in Mid August. I selected this property for the location and value. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the entire interior had been recently refurbished with modern colors and finishes. The entry lounge is a spacious, unconventional open plan that encourages mingling, reading, chilling and is adjacent to an open dining bar with reasonable food offerings. It was great to stay in the hotel and have food provided for after a long business day and Los Angeles traffic. The hallway and rooms have been all updated with simple, understated furniture that is carefully detailed and executed. The room has blackout shades, a writing desk, a lounge chair, a breakfast bar with a small refrigerator and a full size mirror, good lighting a room air handler. The decor was modern, a bit bohemian-casual and the bed was high quality. I liked the designer sensibility without a lot of fancy frills and embellishments. The hotel feels clean and welcoming. The staff was all pleasant and friendly. I only mentioned to them that there was no TV guide (written or on the remote) and the shower safety bar end caps needed to be affixed after their remodel. This was a 98% perfect stay and one I would look to repeat.

We stayed here several times a year for couple years in a row due to sport events. In the past few years the service and the rooms used to be very good so we always choose to stay here. However this year (Jan. 2020), it started to get really bad and out dated.

Bad:
Poor front desk service: staff is not nice. We requested room away from elevator and we got the initial room 2 rooms from the elevator although it’s a very low season. The staff didn’t even ask how many keys we want and just gave us one key with 3 people in the room.

No welcome cookie: two days in a row there is no welcome cookies service. Went down in the evening and the staff said it’s not ready. Checked couple times in 2 hours still no cookies.

Poor room maintenance: the toilet in our room is running water into tank continuously every 15 mins with loud noise. We let the front desk know and they said they will fix it before we come back in the evening. However it never happens. We ended up have to use a rubber band to tie the water tank leverage so the water will not flow into the tank. That means no bathroom use at night. TERRIBLE!!!!

Poor air circulation - there is no fan only air circulation in the room. Either AC or heat only. The air inside the room is not fresh. The ac machine is super loud.

No venting in bathroom. With a Hilton chain, you would think that is a basic amenity.

Conclusion, very disappointed this year and will stay away from this hotel from now on.

One more thing, they don’t have coffee serving except for a limited time in the morning. Even a motel serves all day coffee!

Arrived at night and really wanted a hot shower, 40degrees outside. Let the shower run for 10min never became hot, called the front desk and told them, they said there was nothing they could do, I would have to wait for the repairman at 9am to fix it. Left my room at 730am explained to the front desk person the situation and said I would be back at 10am for a hot shower. I returned and the shower was still cold water only, I left and called back later that day, again explained the situation, the front desk person said a manager would be contacting me and perhaps give me a refund, I was never contacted by anyone from the hotel, $200+ for a few hours sleep, no shower, and some guy down the hall yelling on his phone that he was going to break down the door because his daughter was in the room with a predator!! Hilton isn't what it used to be!!

We had a great stay. Our room (305) was very large and the large bed was extremely comfortable. The rooms have been refurbished since our last stay in 2019 and are greatly improved. The closet area provided ample storage and the shower room was large. We appreciated the space and amenities including hairdryer, iron and board, fridge and coffee maker. The TV area also has great storage and there was a large selection of channels.

The only drawback to the room was the air conditioning noise so I used silicone ear plugs to sleep. We didn’t use many of the facilities except the gymnasium - regrettably the 2 running machines were both out of service.
The pool is very small and could be noisy if your room overlooks.

There are plenty of parking spaces and the location is excellent, very handy for The Calabasas Commons (a beautiful, landscaped area with a great selection of coffee shops, restaurants and stores), Malibu beaches (30 mins drive) and 405 highway.

The housekeeping staff did a great job and always said hello in the corridors which was really nice. The complimentary, individually wrapped cookies at the lobby were delicious and a very welcoming touch.

I have had great stays in this hotel and would unreservedly recommend to friends.

Very nice hotel! Great value. Our room was quite large and very clean. There was no complimentary breakfast but there was a made to order full breakfast for a reasonable price. Spacious dining area. Nice pool, just a bit small but we enjoyed using it with children and cooling off. They do not make up your room unless you request it so keep that in mind. Overall very nice hotel in a good location.

I’m revising my glowing review from May 2021.
All the recent negative reviews for this place are CORRECT.

I regret ever having stay at this location.
We have stayed here a total of 6 times in the last two months (3 times through Priceline, the last 3 times direct through the hotel). With the plan of coming back 2-3 times a month.

Last week when we arrived the room we had picked was taken. We were disappointed. But agreed to downgrade from a king deluxe to a king. We were assured we would be charged less.

I get the bill and for downgrading to a smaller room we were charged $9 less for the total. $9? If it had been the other way around, and we had wanted to upgrade from a king to king deluxe no way would it have been a $9 difference. So why is it only $9 cheaper to downgrade?

I’ve called the hotel twice now and they’ve given me the run around. Every person I’ve spoke to so far as been rude, unhelpful and unwilling to even say “sorry.”

We were disappointed that the room we booked was unavailable. To have this nonsense added on top of it was unnecessary.

Looking forward to giving my 2-3 times a month business elsewhere. Good riddance.

WiFi and TV didn’t work at all and the neighbors were noisy and when I reported it I was promised a discount and never got it. I wish they would have moved us to another room but maybe they weee sold out. Still waiting for a call back.

We chose this hotel for its location when visiting family in nearby Westlake Village. The hotel appeared to be nice, until we got in the room. It smelled awful, like old cigars. There were broken items like shades that wouldn't shut and a toilet paper holder that fell off the wall.

Housekeeping didn't restock certain items, and was only available if you request cleaning. Breakfast was ok, likely the one ok thing there besides the wonderful location.

We would not stay here again or likely any other Hilton. This is our second bad Hilton experience. Their hotels always feel rundown and service is lacking.
