Detailed Reviews
I can understand why this motel only got a 2 star rating by AAA. It did a good job providing the basics, eg: clean room, hot shower and t.v with remote. The problem is if you're not familiar with Camarillo, you might have a hard time finding the location. As there are different parts to Ventura Blvd. Also, although restaurants and stores are not extremely far away, they're definitely not next door. I had wanted to get a bed time snack and figured I'd depend on the vending machines.
NONE of them worked. :( So off I had to go - taking the freeway to get into the town of Camarillo to get goodies. Getting to your room is kinda scary since the walkways are not well lit. The staff was okay.
Overall I felt with my AAA discount, I got what I wanted - a basic room.

I just checked in. First, let me say I'm not in a good mood (my GPS couldn't find the address, and I wasted about a half hour driving around).
First, the pros:
The desk clerk was courteous, though -- as others have stated -- there was no one at the desk when I entered; no desk bell, either, to call for the clerk.
When I booked the room on-line last week, I had requested extra in-room coffee. The clerk had three extra packets waiting for me (de-caf, though; either I screwed up my request or someone at the hotel did). The clerk immediately replaced these with real (that is, caffeinated) coffee.
The room has a refrigerator and microwave oven, though the clerk couldn't say for sure when I checked in if they would be there (he says these amenities are sometimes moved from room to room).
The cons (as the title shows, it's the little things):
The room is rather dark. This isn't terrible, but if -- like me -- you need to work at the desk, you'll find there's no light or lamp at the desk. I had to slide the heavy desk toward the relatively dim floor lamp in order to work.
Also, bring an extension cord and/or power strip. There's no available electrical outlet near the desk, unless you want to crawl behind the credenza and unplug the TV or refrigerator.
Of course, there's a coffee maker; it and the coffee, cups, ice bucket, etc., were on the desk. Again, nowhere to plug in the coffee maker. It was either the night stand (the lamp of which has an outlet), a room chair in the corner where there is an available outlet, or the bathroom. I chose the bathroom, but the cord crosses behind the sink faucet, and the cord got wet when I made a pot of coffee.
No room materials, such as pen, phone book, local food deliveries, Gideon bible, etc. There was a small, bent pad of paper in the nightstand drawer, along with a few scraps of waste paper (was the room cleaned before I checked in?).
The room phone has a button labeled FRONT DESK, but I got only a busy signal when I pressed it. I telephoned the desk -- twice -- from my personal cell phone; it was never answered.
The in-room alarm clock radio was off by about 12 hours.
As I said, I'm not in a good mood right now, not entirely due to the hotel. I travel about once monthly for business, and I seem to always encounter the same little annoyances (no outlets, nowhere to put the coffee pot, etc.)
Of course, I haven't actually slept here yet, so I can't comment on the comfort of the bed, the temperature of the bath water, etc.; nor have I yet tried the free WiFi.

Needed a room for a couple family to travel for a funeral. This one was a decent price and the photos seemed nice. When family got back I heard the following: The negatives: The TV was fluttering and not receiving good reception. The key card failed a couple times. The outside looked dead and unkept. The pool was suspect so no one went in due to the dirt. The small room refrigerator wasn't working. The positives: The room itself was adequate, enough towels and appeared neat. The morning breakfast area was clean and they had a wide assortment for people to pick what they would like to eat. I booked online and asked a special request (a first floor room) due to one family member having trouble with stairs. This was granted and that was nice. All in all if they kept the grounds up and did some maintenance checks, it would give a better impression.

Walk into a room with plastic floors that makes you feel that it's always rented by the hour. Up all night to loud neighbors going at it non stop until 3AM. Automatic sensor brite LED lights going on in our room and staying on for 15 minutes everytime. Breakfast, ya right, workers pushing my wife out of the way to get their hangover food. Coffee machine goes empty at 7:00 AM and stays empty. Guest's are really upset, one telling me this was the worst stay he's had in years (I agreed). Small beds, dirty rooms and hotel. Either way North or South just keep driving. What's wrong Choice Hotels, what's wrong? The final kicker, go to turn on the shower and NO water comes out at all. Called the front desk told him to pound sand. Terrible!

I booked the room through Hotels.com and prepaid. At check in, they couldn't find my reservation even though I showed the clerk my reservation on my phone. She did give me a downgrade to match the price I already paid and made me pay again. It was then my responsibility to call Hotels.com. They refunded my prepay, but I lost the credit towards my free room and the ability to review this awful place on their website. Upon check out, another clerk said, "Yeah, we usually have trouble losing those bookings, especially when we are busy." I don't know how that is possible. The cable box never worked, the bed was noisy, lumpy, and not the king I paid for. The toilet is actually too big for the bathroom. You have to force the door past the bowl to close it. They were also doing repairs to a room so that the direct path to our room was blocked. This required my husband and I to have to walk all the way around a wing to get to where we were assigned. The best part of this hotel is that we know we will never stay here again.

I have stayed at this place before but was so disappointed this time. This place is in an ongoing renovation of which I was not told when I made my reservations through Hotels.com. It was noisy and dusty all the time. The room could not be kept clean with all the dust blowing around and the door not sealing (you could see light around it). Also the entry light would just turn on no matter when or if anyone was moving in the room. Will never ever stay here again.

We walked to this hotel hoping to find a room to stay for few days due to major problem with our initial reservation to a different hotel. Peter was very helpful and accomodating, he was able to lower our rate when i asked for a discount. The day prior to our check out, due to personal issues we have to check out 1 day early but it was already past the check out time, I spoke to Peter and he was very gracious to refund us the 1 day stay. The room is clean and bed is comfortable. This kind of customer service should be the standard …. Thank you again. If wver i willgo back to Camarillo, I definitely would check in here again..

Saw mixed reviews but was very plesently surprised. Clean with polite and helpful staff. Pool was nice on a warm August evening. The breakfast room was being remodeled so breakfast was in the lobby. Plenty of food and very nice employees.

My husband and I just traveled from San Diego to San Francisco and had reservations at various hotels dotted up the coast. We were the closest to Camarillo at nightfall and decided to use our reservation here. We arrived around 8:30 and were treated to complimentary wine which was a pleasant finish to a long drive. Our room was clean, everything was in working order and the king size bed was very comfortable. There was plenty to go around at the complimentary breakfast. We had a nice balcony with chairs outside.
There was traffic noise, but that would be expected when you're located off of a major highway (101). Check out was at 12 noon which enabled us to take a leisurely start the next day.
We would definitely stay here again.

I sent my government person tdy here on 6/15/04. He came back saying it was dirty & disgusting. Even the manager behind the counter looked dirty. I was extremely embarrassed and I will not book this hotel anymore.

Rooms are decent and clean. Nothing looked dated when I stayed there in January. Lacked a few extras like a microwave and mini fridge.
