I decided to stay at the Sea Otter Inn because of their partnership with the Cambria Christmas Market. I am glad I wasn't immediately adjacent to the market itself. I liked being able to take a shuttle to the market venue and back. It was nice to sit by the fire pits and catch up on reading and I appreciated the coffee and cookie service while the front office was open. Not bit far for walking into town and I was little leery walking across the highway from Cambria proper but being next to the ocean made up for it.
It is an okay hotel/motel but the proximity to the ocean and beach walk makes it a keeper. You can walk to a local restaurant for a quick bite and the breakfast provided by Sea Otter is good. The beds are a bit soft for my taste but overall it was comfortable for the night.
My husband and I had reservations for two rooms for four nights. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with Covid. We called and gave a 24 hour notification that we would have to cancel our reservation. The sea otter insisted on charging us for one night because our notification was not done 48 hours before our check in time I called them back after my husband advice me of this, and told them we would go ahead and use the one night we were paying for and they could just disinfected afterwards. They refused to let me do so. As a result, we are having to pay over $200 for a stay we aren’t able to make. This is clearly unfair. We travel to the Cambria area 4-5 times a year. Sea Otter will never get our business.
My husband & I took our daughter down the California Coast for a birthday present. The Sea Otter Inn was a perfect stop along the way. We used the fire pits & hot tub then enjoyed the basket breakfast in the morning. It was only a short drive to visit Hearst Castle. Unfortunately my husband got sick and we had to cut our trip short, but would have enjoyed another night at the inn.
We stayed for two nights, the rooms were nice, clean and a reasonable size. I would have liked to be able to open a window, or have a ceiling fan as it did become stuffy. EV Charging was very handy Breakfast was nice and delivered in a unique way...basket hanging on the door. the area is lovely and walking is good to most restaurants and the water
Very pleasant inn on the beach and stayed in the two room suite for a couple nights. We really enjoyed * the daily morning breakfast delivered to our door (choice of breakfast burrito (bacon or veggie), yogurt, pastries) complete with juice or milk. * the hot tub & the swimming pool * great coffee service in the lobby * fireplaces in the room kept the suite warm Our only issues: * wifi in our room didn't work for two days. Worked when we sat outside by the fire pit near lobby. Front desk couldn't fix (they tried). Not a big deal but a minor inconvenience considering we were on a road trip and Cambria has poor signal. * construction outside room meant there was a dark fence outside the window and daytime noise, again not a big deal and irrelevant once fire pits there are completed. …
My BFF and I stopped in Cambria as it was almost half between Laguna Beach and Monterey, CA. The rooms were fresh and clean. Every room had a fireplace and this is a dog friendly hotel. The breakfast that comes to your room is substantial and included in the price of the room. I would highly recommend this over night stay hands down!!
Just loved the patio and the beautiful room. Everything is operating well including convenient breakfast delivery. Hot tub was nice but not as warm as I hoped. King bed was pretty bouncy and if I stayed again I'd go for a two queen beds but would have to sacrifice the patio. Or maybe they can change to a foam mattress some day? Overall I recommend it easily, but might explore to better meet my needs personally.
It really is a wonderful place to stay and its location across the each excellent. My wife particularly enjoyed the French Country decor of the room which was tastefully done. They provide a nice picnic basket in the morning of breakfast goodies which was a nice touch. Our only complaint was our room #103 was right next to the office laundry where the ice machine is also located and its loud dropping of ice every hour keeps us awake at night as it's right next to the room. Also, you can hear the help staff talking at 7;00 am outside your door, so really can't sleep in on vacation very well. I would recommend avoiding that room when you book. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable experience.
The perfect dog friendly location, complete with patio, for a fun weekend viewing the annual Scarecrow Festival. I also love the picnic basket breakfast that arrives in the morning outside the door. This is our fourth year returning and second stay at Sea Otter Inn, our new favorite place to stay.
