Two couples traveling together. Upon arrival we discovered this resort is basically out there by its self, 1.5 hours away from our intended destination of Volcan de La Vieja. So if you wish to go to that National park, stay somewhere else.
That being said,...More
We loved our 6 nights here. Clean room, beautiful botanical gardens, hummingbirds, butterflies, hot spring pools (3) plus swimming pools (2), great food, friendly people, clean, and fun activities.
We did hiking, tubing, zip-lining. We saw toucans, a sloth, lots of other birds, flowers.

Please know, both staff and owners read reviews. We are both very appreciative and feels energized by your description. Thanks for staying with us and hopefully we’ll see you again soon.
I can not understand how this place has been able to score 4.5 stars from the over reviews.
This place is no better than a mid range backpackers hostel.
Expensive, any additional tours need to be paid for and there is nothing to do close...More
After booking a visit to the nearby Sensoria for a guided rainforest hike, we realized we would need to find accommodation nearby. That would be the Blue River Resort & Hot Springs. Taking highway 1 north of Liberia, then right on 917 (watch for signage...More

Hola! So happy that you made it here. Had you stayed longer there are many amenities to enjoy plus the many Eco-adventure tours. With respect to getting here from Liberia, the 60 minute journey begins in a hot Savannah and slowly changes into a lush...More

I would call or email the resort to be sure. However, they are well equipped to handle the terrain. Most use 4 wheeled vehicles. If you rent a vehicle, be sure and reserve a 4-wheeled one. The terrain after about 5-7 miles drop off to rocky and dirt roads. Kevin or Angelique (his wife) speak excellent English. I am sure they will be honest with you.

I am also a smoker. There was no smoking in the lodge or cabin, which is normal. We had a small porch. I would go on it and smoke either on the porch or in the road. I kept a pop can or bottle with water in it to put my butts so as to not litter and not cause a fire. In the dry season it would especially be easy to cause a fire. I do not remember an actual designated 'smoking allowed' area. As you may know, Costa Rica is working to have its residents not smoke -- part of their healthy life style. Personally I try to be respectful of them and still have my smoke. Hope this helps.
