My partner and I stayed here for a week over Christmas. We were both so impressed with the hospitality and warmth from Fuji, his family and the other workers. The room was small but cosy and all amenities were clean and well maintained. We loved walking home from the snow fields, sitting by the fire and enjoying a beer from the vending machine. To top it all off, my partner forgot his watch and Fuji was kind enough to post it to us in Tokyo! Would highly recommend this accommodation to family and friends.
I was booked to stay at Tomten for 7 nights. Unfortunately prior to the date of arrival my travel partner and myself both I sustained injuries and we were unable to continue to the destination, under doctor's advice. . I approached Tomten about a refund under the circumstances, and even though I gave them 2 weeks notice, and forwarded a copy of my medical certificate, they replied after a few days that they were unable to offer any refund for 6 of my 7 nights, which had been prepaid. The costs amounted to approximately $900AUD. All the other places where I had bookings were more than happy to refund full costs. The day after I cancelled, it showed on booking.com that were are no rooms available at Tomten for the nights I had booked, which I assume meant the room had been re-booked. This means they can make twice as much money for the room, which I feel is fundamentally wrong. I see all the positive reports by other travellers, and I have no doubt that when you stay there it is comfortable and pleasant, but just be aware that if you have a crisis, this place is not willing to offer anything in the way of cancellation assistance, even if you have a doctor's certificate and they can re-book the room. …
We can not say enough good things about this lodge. From the moment we arrived for our 7 night stay, the staff and Lodge Manager Fuji were incredibly accommodating and helpful in every way possible. From making sure we had enough to eat at breakfast (which was made fresh every morning) to helping us find the most cost effective day trips, and dropping us off/picking us up at nearby bus stops when they had time (which was not required by them to do so). Our room and bathroom was very clean and extremely comfortable, the lodge is a 2 minute walk to the Annupuri gondola and local bus stops, and most restaurants in the Annupuri area are a maximum 10 minute walk away. Lodge manager Fuji and his staff are what took our stay in Niseko from good to great and we will absolutely stay here again on any future trips to Niseko.…
The host, Fuji-san is a legend! Helped us in so many ways, and also speaks very good English. It's more of a hostel than a hotel, with shared bathrooms, but it's cheap and the rooms with reasonable in size. One thing tho... You definitely cannot ski to the door!
I stayed at a twin bed room of Pension Tomten for 4days 3nights. It was a ok stay, 10min walk from the annupri ski fields were really abreactive location tho there are no restaurants around. So I suggest visitors to bring some food or go to Hirafu for dinner. As for Tomten, what I didn't like is; 1, there is a central heating between the beds, so hard to connect 2 beds( tho my bae and I eventually tuned off the central heating and connected 2 beds). 2, there is no tissue and dust box in the room. FYI, tap water is not drinkable here in Hokkaido, so need buy a water. Homemade breads for breakfast were good. But I wanted more variety of food, at least yoghurt. Working crews are nice, they speak English fluently. And free pickup service was available. …
We visited Sapporo, Noboribetsu, otaru and Niseko and amongst all This place is super special. The Annupuri night skiing slopes and the bus station that takes you around to all the others is just a short walk away. Run the lovely Y , this hotel is clean neat and the most comfiest and homely of all the places we have been to. After being in the snow and windy -10 weather all day, this is what you want to retire to. As my photos will speak for themselves, the lounge/ lobby is just as you would have at Home. Comfortable sofas, warm fireplace and tons of books both in Japanese and English (thankfully ) make the evenings nice and relaxing. Staff is just 3 wonderful people and that's all you need. Clean bathrooms and restrooms, and all amenities available. In our whole trip it was very difficult to find strictly vegetarian food as whole of Japan is.. But Food-wise this is the place to go for Indian Vegetarians. There are many takeout menus available and one of them is a great Indian restaurant which delivers right to the hotel. So as far as food is concerned we were delighted.. There's equipment rental that delivers to the doorstep. And all arrangements for any snow activities can be made at the front desk itself. Except for Ski schools which you have to book well in advance of coming to Niseko. Come and stay here for 3-4 days and you will feel relaxed and fully satisfied. A compete 10/10 from me!! …
The whole Niseko area is really expensive compared to other areas in Japan, but Tomten at least offers an affordable stay close enough to the slopes. It is in Annupuri village so not in the super popular/over crowded/over priced village of Hirafu. The owner provides shuttles in the morning to the bottom of the lifts if you don't want to walk and also did occasional drives out to supermarkets and Hirafu in the evenings if you want. Rooms are very basic and the breakfast gets old after two days (bread, eggs, cereal and some fruit). This is somewhat compensated by its nice common lounge area by the fireplace. We often had drinks here most nights with other guests which gave it a real lodge feel. Lost 2 stars for sub-par breakfast and lack of usual Japanese service/care in accommodation. I somewhat felt like an impost rather than a guest at times.…
I initially had some reservations as I had never stayed at a lodge where I had to use shared bathrooms. However, I realized that I had absolutely nothing to worry about as the place was so well-maintained, especially the bathrooms! Another concern I had was how welcoming would the staff and guests be with children. Again, my worries were unnecessary. The kids had a blast with the snow scooter and playing games in front of the fireplace. They also made new friends during their stay. The only drawback to the whole experience would be the distance to other amenities (especially food). If you want to have dinner at the Hirafu area, you have to be prepared to deal with a 45 min bus ride, which cost around 400 yen per way.
We stayed here for a couple of nights, shared a twin room with two single beds. For a lodge this was very good. Good social and dining area. Breakfast included in the stay was great, a range of cereals, fruits and eggs. The place was very clean. Matt and Yuka were fantastic hosts, very knowledgeable, friendly and helped us in any way they could possibly. They went beyond expectation multiple times without even asking. Thanks so much for looking after us! We wish they had more accommodation available so we could stay longer but sadly not. There is a drying room but it's not overly hot or good at drying your ski gear out. We would like to see a dedicated drying room for ski gear next time but other than that everything was fantastic.
Matt and Yuka were absolutely amazing hosts and the accommodation was homely and warm. We stayed in a twin private western room which was a good size and had two king single beds in it. The whole lodge was incredibly clean and spacious which made for an excellent experience. The breakfast was simple but delicious and the inclusion of Vegemite as a condiment for our toast was priceless seeing as though we are Australian. We had to organize a huge amount of stuff whilst we were there and Matt and Yuka were more than obliging. They called taxis, booked restaurants, returned rental gear and even organized a courier to take our luggage to our next destination (surprisingly very cheap to do in Japan). Matt also takes guests up to the Annapuri ski base in the morning between 8:30-9:30 which saves you the 5 min walk with all your gear. Overall we were extremely happy with our stay and we would definitely go back again. …
