The side6 is located just a 5 min to gondola access in annapuri. That's definetly a plus. And it's probably one of the cheapest options in comparison to it's neighboring locations. The mix of Japanese and international guests is around 50-50. So if you want to get in touch with some locals this is a good choice. Male-female-ratio is though a bit tipped: probably around 90-10 in favor of guys. The beds are clean. The pillows, mattresses and blankets don't smell and are freshly washed. The carpet is however quite filthy. The walls are somewhere painted somewhere not, the walls are thin -so bring earplugs. The missing room service is no issue. Remember this is a hostel. The kitchen is well equipped (rice cookers, microwave, toaster, 4 plates) but some stuff I missed: spoons and forks they have, sharp cutting knives all there, but regular knives or a coffee brewer is not available. The "living quarters" which is AppleTV, PlayStation, a big TV and also an electronic piano includes breakfast/lunch/dinner room is small when fully booked. Expect some congestion in the morning and around dinner time. The common washing area has only two fossets with ice cold water. The (hot) shower is common but lockable, i.e. you have privacy while in there. You might need to wait or give it several tries before you can take a well deserved shower. It can also be that you meet one of the family members who obviously share the bathroom with the guests. Wifi is really good. Stable for video skypes and streaming. There is some nice restaurants in walking distance and also an onsen. However, you want to be mobile to go to Niseko village, kutchan or to access a greater variety of onsens which are a 5 min car ride. Make sure to join Isshi at Choi Choi (outside of Side6) for some after ski: A super nice lad who has local beer, hot sake and yummy deep fried food or his famous curry if you are too lazy to cook. All in all, this is a solid place. Nice and open minded people, prices are reasonable. You will start to feel at home after a week. Being part of the skibum gang feels so good at Side6. The booking is like it is: you won't get an automated confirmation but rather a message by the owner, Tani. Payment is done on site, so don't bother to send him his credit card or anything.…
This IS the place to stay in Annupuri, 5mins walk to chairlift. BIG kitchen for cooking and lounge for relaxing. The owner is really easy going and nice guy with a nice family. Even has a waxing station, drying room, and the beds are comfortable, only 4 beds per room. Long stay also welcome at a VERY cheap price. Highly recommend and Ill be back next year for sure!
