This lodge is an absolute disgrace, and my dream trip suddenly went into a nightmare. It was impossible for me to stay at freeride lodge, I had to get emergency accommodation and Miranda has ignored the two emails I have sent regarding a refund. Do not book here. I was incredibly disappointed on my arrival and got very emotional on a dream trip. The pictures on the website do reflect the accommodation online, and the room was that tight, it felt like a under ground prison. There was no locks on my bedroom door and no locks on the main entrance. The accommodation houses 40 people and there are 3 shared toilets and couple of shared showers. Also they say they have a restaurant but it only serves Nachos (so how is it a restaurant). I literally sat there and cried my eyes out my whole dream trip was ruined. I did not know the state of your accommodation, on the website it has old photos and you make she makes it sound like each room has a ensuite. I have never encountered such poor living conditions. I think the hotel should be banned for sale as it does not reflect what is offered on the site. They have no tv in the rooms and the rooms are heated by stand up heaters not by central heating. No coffee facilities or cupboard space, just a bunk bed, where your squashed so Miranda can make as much money as she can. Limited shower rooms too with poor quality standards. I am disgusted tbh. I had flown 17 hours to walk into that. Words can’t describe how I felt, I have never been in anywhere as poor. I really would like a refund or at least a proportion but Miranda keeps ignoring my emails. The accommodation needs a lot of work to be suitable, Miranda takes all this money off people but gives them nothing to show for it. Living Conditions are horrendous. My house in England is lovely and I am on holiday. I could not even stay there for even one night. Do not book! Try getting an apartment! They are lovely and you get safe/comfortable living conditions for your money and there not that expensive. You will waste your money here. Do not ruin your trip!

Response from lionel, Manager at Freeride Lodge Niseko Backpackers
Responded 27 Feb 2020
HI Laura, thanks for the multiple reviews. You booked in to Freeride Lodge Niseko Backpackers , the name of the business should give it away that it is not a hotel. No we don't have TVs in every room ,we do not advertise that . We have a communal TV room, there is coffee facility in 2 of the common areas in the lodge, we have 5 toilets, some rooms have underfloor heating and the others have the standard heating for in Japan. I did not ignore your multiple email I respond to each and everyone stating our cancellation policy and that you would not get a refund as per our cancellation policy, maybe you should see if your travel insurance will cover you for changing your mind I am sure they would not. Nowhere in our descriptions does it say we have en-suite rooms .I do not really know of any backpackers which does. We are a backpacker lodge and there are keys for each room which require a deposit and everyone staying in your shared rooms needs to get this if you wish to lock your room. Your expectations were for a completely different style of accommodation( I don't know why when you are the one who chose this style of accommodation and booked it) . All our photos are current and the information we provide is exactly what we offer. We are a backpacker lodge with shared rooms and share communal space and bathrooms as advertised. We do not offer refund as per our cancellation policy for people who have booked held the booking for months and then turn up and just decide to leave. We have a cancellation policy just like any other accommodation place in the world and when you book you should read this and make sure you know what it is. I run a business and my business is a backpacker lodge therefor it is expected that you pay for your accommodation and abide by the cancellation policy that is standard anywhere. As for the restaurant it is advertised it is a nachos and Margarita bar and that is exactly what it is and serves. good luck with being a happy traveler in the future Laura

I stayed at Freeride Lodge for a week and I was happy with the room and setup of the place. I loved how bright and clean the entire lodge was and how it’s pretty much across the street from the bus stop. Getting around in Niseko can be hard if you don’t have a car so that was a huge relief! The drying room is spacious and well planned out and there’s also a cute and fun Mexican restaurant downstairs with good food if you get hungry. Free tea was a plus! This is definitely a place to stay if you’re looking to meet new people and prefer a livelier environment. :) Thank you Miranda and the rest of the staff for being so friendly and accommodating. Would stay here again! :)

We stayed at Freeride Lodge for 2 weeks and overall we thought it was great! The staff were super friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great with the staff making you something new each day such as egg and bacon, pancakes, breakfast burrito, you name it! The lodge was kept very clean with common places and toilettes being cleaned daily and the vibe is very homey. We loved taking a beer in the bar chatting with the staff and other guests after a whole day out riding! The location is also really good! We often took the bus to/from Hirafu for dinner or apres which only takes 15 min with the bus stop just outside the lodge. In the mornings they have a free shuttle taking you to the Niseko Village gondola making it super easy to be the first one up the mountain since there's not too many people in Niseko Village compared to Hirafu! If anything negative is to be said, it's probably that the walls in the house are very thin. Since there is a restaurant and a bar in the house, the noice level did go pretty high some nights. However, nothing some ear plugs can't fix! All in all, we would gladly recommend this place!!

With Niseko supplying so much powder this place is hard to pass up for price and being out of the rat race. Bus stop right out the front to get you to the quieter annupuri or Niseko village is also walking distance. Great bar also in here with amazing cocktails and food.

I stayed here for ten days and absolutely lived it. The staff was very attentive and extremely friendly. The location is ideal as it’s right on the shuttle route and steps to the lower lifts. The food was on point and breakfast was included. Highly recommend this spot. Plus Miranda is a very gracious hostess.

Visited Niseko on a snowboarding holiday on my own. Stayed at Freeride Lodge which was great!! The staff are like a second family, I made so many great friendships and got to shred some amazing pow with them. Beds are super comfy and dorm rooms are clean, nice and cosy. Breakfast was always yummy with each day it being something new, talking about yummy also is the Mexican Mule restaurant, it is absolutely delicious!!!! It is a 5 minute walk to the Village chairlift or there is a bus stop right out the front- super handy! Had a great stay at Freeride I can't thank the staff enough! Arigatou gozaimasu!

on arrival to Niseko we did not get picked up even after booking the shuttle in advance and calling upon arrival to the Hilton. the staff were friendly but did not seem to care about their job at all. some don't even get changed out of their pyjamas in the mornings while working, which is fine, but it just shows they have no professionalism in their job at all. the showers in this place are terrible, they are not heated at all so it is like standing outside while trying to shower, the water temperature constantly jumps from too hot to nearly cold. If you stay here its probably worth having an Onsen every afternoon so you don't have to shower here. on the upside, breakfast is pretty good, everyday there is a different hot option such as pancakes, bacon and eggs etc. the lodge is located right across the road from a bus stop which makes it a bit easier to get around. the beds are reasonably comfortable, the toilets are always pretty clean. In general the lodge is pretty clean in comparison to similar accomm we have stayed at in japan. wouldn't choose to stay here again, but if you want really casual accomm with no help from staff then this is the place for you.

I would most definitely recommend staying here if your a couple or solo. I came here on my own for 2 weeks but ended up extending my stay for another week because the staff here made me feel so at home and I just had the best time ever here. Close to the bus stop and a short walk to the chairlift, happy days all round 😊
