From the begin it feels like meeting friends, basic but wonderful due to direct location at the beachside, truly very friendly and nice hosts, excellent breakfast, great and truly home-cooked dinners and even the simple and cheap lunch card (like Greek salad, all sorts of pasta and omelette) was delicious. They also offer very interesting and fun excursions for little...

Hotel Votsala open especially for the volunteers in winter 2015/2016. This was a true help for us as affordable accommodation was a true problem. In addition to offering affordable accommodation, all volunteers were invited for a dinner. Big thank you!

Run by a former architect, Iannis, and his wife Daphne, this is a simple but restful retreat. It's a beautiful spot next to the sea, with Turkey visible in the distance. Iannis and Daphne are the perfect hosts – relaxed but attentive. Janet runs the bar, and is also lovely. Hotel Votsala is no means grand – but very comfortable....

The absolutely best place if you want peace and quiet, and excellent food. Very easy to be there with kids, and very helpful owners and personnel. All sorts of interesting people coming and going, you can talk to. All sorts of interesting things happening, which you can choose to join or not- simply enjoy a day by the beach instead....

I loved the breakfast with classic music and the evening with nice jazz music. The hotel was great. The views of the sea were absolutely amazing too. In the evening in front of the hotel you can have a swim just before night settles in, when the sky and sea have no clear border. And yes my stay was very...

Votsala has got it all: sea, sun, good atmosphere and friendly people. You can relax in the sun or in the shade, go for a swim or a stroll along the coastline, visit the arceological museum or join a cooking course with Daphne. The guests are allowed to pick fruit from the trees around the houses, and in September the...

After my first stay at Votsala in 2008, I was so overwhelmed by my experience that I felt compelled to tell the World about it, so I signed up to Trip Advisor and gave Votsala a Five Star review! And we've returned to Lesvos and Votsala every year since, bar one. But selfishly, I've never followed up my first review,...

This is an hotel to which people return over and over again. They are not people who want to lie by a swimming pool all day - there isn't one, though it is right on the shore and you can swim, sun-bathe or take out a pedalo. They are not people who want luxury - the rooms are simple. The...

I found this place because I was volunteering on Lesvos and wanted somewhere near but not too near to the Moria refugee camp. Although the restaurant was closed for the winter, Iannis had kept the rooms open and serviced for volunteers and travellers. His emails were warm and trusting. He didn't ask for a deposit for my two week stay....
