I am only writing this review to save others from disappointment in Carmel. I read the google reviews that were favorable and now am wondering if they are fake! Our room was one of the more pricey ones available. The carpet had large stains, the furniture must be from a garage sale, the bathroom had no amenities other than towels, kleenex and thank you for the one roll of TP! There is not enough room on this page to describe how horribly outdated this property is. I feel as though they are ready for demolition and we were the last suckers to stay there.

The location of this hotel is excellent, very near to Stores and good restaurants at the downtown. You can go walking to these places. The room was very clean and the hotel offers a good breakfast. the room was small but comfortable and clean which is very important for us. We give our best recommendation.

An historic inn with lots of charm in an excellent location. A delightful morning breakfast service with several food options. Easy walk into the village of Carmel. Decor is from another era, but that is part of its vintage charm.

The Inn is great for a one-night stay. Although the rooms get very cold at nighttime, the welcoming atmosphere and cute interior were fab! Staff were helpful and accommodating. Breakfast in the morning was a nice touch. Would recommend to a friend!

Great location just a block off downtown, and great experience at check-in with staff. The room is clean. That said, our room is right on the street, so we have to keep the windows shuttered, which makes the room pretty dark (which is a shame, given that it’s a beautiful weekend!) And there are some details that are a little odd: while the room has a chair, there’s only one (and there are two of us), there are no towel racks, and the bathroom still doesn’t have space to unpack your toiletries. Overall, OK.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We are always interested in what our guests have to say, as we strive to improve their Carmel experience. Thank you for noticing the effort of our staff to make your stay as relaxing as they can. Some of our rooms can seem a bit small when compared to normal hotel rooms of today, but that was the norm for inns from the 20's and 30's. We hope you have the chance to come visit us again. Sincerely, Michelle

Great location and staff.. but rooms are dated. Room was clean, but electrical outlets did not work and shower had No water pressure. Very nice breakfast, but did not stat until 8am. We had an 9 am tee time at pebble beach so breakfast was not available. Had A Nice breakfast the first Dax and good WiFi. We walked to great restaurants and shops.. loved Vesuvius and Bicyclette

this is a very old property. we love the location and have stayed there three times over the past 30 years. Sadly, the charm has been overwhelmed by the lack of attention to keeping it up. It simply needs some upgrades to warrant coming back again. We stayed in the Holly room and it's OK for younger folks but not at all for older folks - or those with young kids. There are steep steps, barely enough room to turn around in the bathroom (literally!). Wood molding has gaps. There is no insulation so it's very cold in the winter. Bed is NOT a queen size as advertised. It's like staying in a loft. Breakfast was good, but tiny portions. Housekeeping staff was nice - but they don't offer daily service now?

Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback. It is always best to call the Inn to check on room availability. There are 17 very different rooms, and booking online there is a chance you will get one of our smaller rooms. Room service is available upon request, as we strive to maintain COVID protocol for the county. Our front desk staff informs our guests upon check in about this change in procedure. Sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us, but we appreciate your comments, as we strive to improve our guests' experience. Sincerely, Michelle

We discovered upon check-in that there are no air conditioning units in the rooms. The rooms had damaged doors, walls and baseboards. The bathroom was old and the towels were sandpaper. I can’t believe I spent more than $350 here. It’s not worth $50.

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay with us. It is always best to call ahead to verify what type of room you are in, as all of our 17 rooms are very different. Plus, if there is availability the front desk person will often give you some a few rooms to pick from. Being 3 blocks from the ocean, AC is rarely needed in Carmel, and usually about a hour after the sun sets, everything has cooled off tremendously.

This place is in a very good location to reach everything. That’s about it. The rooms and buildings are so old that they would remind you of your grandma’s old house in a small town….very cheap and dumpy. We had a really small room, and that’s ok, but it came with a full sized bed. I hate to think how the two of us will sleep in it all night. A tiny electric little heater. A vanity in the bathroom that maybe you would get at as the cheapest option at Home Depot about 20 years ago, and then painted it an awful sponge painted color. The tv is the nicest thing in our room.

I’m rating this a 5 out of 5 because although one of our rooms was small, they were both very clean. The bathrooms were remodeled. The grounds were pretty and kept. The staff was so friendly and helpful. There was free parking and it was a great location in Carmel. Many of the other Inns in town were already booked up by the time we got to planning our trip but the GLI was a nice place for us. We usually stay at over the top hotels/resorts and we were really happy here.
