We had room 3 which was the family room. It worked very well for us, spacious, nicely decorated, large at bathroom with separate WC. The courtyard area is also a lovely spot to sit during the day or of an evening. Our main complaint was the breakfast set up, there is a real lack of choice over slots, we were told when. We arrived that we could only have 9.30am on the first day and when we tried to change it to earlier for the second day ( we had an early start), we were told we couldn’t. I went back to ask later in the day if we could bring it forward and we were then offered the 8.45 slot (not sure what had changed in the interim). However, it really felt as though they were doing us a huge favour. Also cheese and wine seemed to finish early so was no longer available at 5.30 on our first day. Overall the front desk could be more cheery and helpful.

This quaint 12 room B & B is located within easy walking distance to everything downtown Carmel has to offer. The staff were professional et friendly, et very accommodating. Breakfast was amazing in their selection et timely delivery to our room. The room was spacious et comfy, though if you need a firm bed, this might not be the place for you. Except for that fact, i still recommend this sweet spot.

I spent way too much time reading reviews trying to ensure the best stay for us in Carmel and couldn’t be happier with our choice. In fact, we really wish we stayed longer! Super cozy, welcoming staff from the moment we arrived, very clean, great location, free (and convenient) parking, comfortable bed, generous breakfast, wonderful courtyard for happy hour or after dinner. A truly great value. Could not have asked for anything better - highly recommend!

We loved our stay at Vagabond’s House! Our room was small but had a private sitting area outside where we enjoyed our delicious breakfast every morning. For breakfast, we had coffee, toast, soft boiled eggs, yogurt, & granola. Overall, a great place to stay and I look forward to our next visit!

My only complaint...wish we stayed another night. But we were on the move, making our way south on Route 1. Vagabond's House Inn has the most beautiful room on the coast, clawfoot tub, heated bathroom floors. For breakfast they hand deliver a tray filled with coffee & tea & soft boiled eggs & toast & juice & Greet yogurt. Right up the street is a great place for Sushi, Toro, where they brag about turning away Bono for not having a reservation. Put this on your treasure map: Dolores Street is where X Marks The Spot in Carmel By The Sea.

We had such an amazing stay here. We arrived and the lady that greeted us was so welcoming. All the staff here was great! We stayed in Room 2. They had the lovely flowers and champagne ordered for the room. We were celebrating a birthday. The breakfast was perfect, you can order exactly what you want from the menu daily or keep it the same way during your stay. The location of the is walking distance to everything. The wine hour is great and we even enjoyed our wine outside by the fire. We had our fur baby with us and they recommended a dog sitter while you go out because doggies can’t stay alone while you’re out. Joe, the dog sitter, was great and reasonably priced. The only thing I would say is that the walls are very thin..like very thin. You can hear everything next door. So I would say when you stay here just be mindful because little bumps and closure of doors sound awfully loud. Oh by the way...the tub and shower are AMAZING! Bring bubble bath and bath bombs to make it more fun! And...the bathroom floor was heated...my feet loved it! The fire place was perfect. It really heated up the room so put it on low. I would definitely return here, highly recommend it and worth it!

This place is so charming and cozy. Stayed her for 3 nights for a second time, and it was as good as the first. Our room (#11) was very large and luxurious. Love the heated tile bathroom floors. Comfortable bed, and large fireplace. Plenty of room to move around. The area (just a few blocks north of Ocean Ave) is very quiet, but it's very close to the center of town, such that you can walk to everything in Carmel....which is helpful after a wine-accented dinner :-) The staff is super friendly and was accommodating for an early check-in. Breakfasts were delicious and served exactly at the time requested. Parking, which can be a pain in Carmel, is easy here, as the inn has its own private parking lot across the street. We will be back. Certainly a favorite spot of ours in Carmel.

I took my mom on a girls trip to Carmel to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day and we stayed at Vagabond's House Inn for two nights. This place was so wonderful we didn't want to leave. The room was completely renovated with a gorgeous stand alone tub which I thoroughly enjoyed. The room also had a sweet view of the moth covered rooftops of Carmel's charming buildings. We had a fire place in our room with a seating area to enjoy a bottle of wine and the coziness of the fireplace. The staff was so helpful and kind. They took all of the necessary precautions to make everything Covid friendly while still being personable. We also really enjoyed the breakfast they would deliver in the morning. Everything was so fresh and beautifully prepared! We can't wait to go back. This is our new favorite Carmel spot!

This stay was definitely below expectations. The worst part was I provided very specific feedback that they asked fo, and no one even bothered to follow up or reply. They sent me: Hello Rich Just checking in on how your stay went. Please reply back with a score of 1-10 (10 being excellent) and any notes we should be aware of. Have a wonderful day! -Guest Services I responded: 4. Thanks for checking in. It was below expectations for the price point to be honest. The room felt old and tired needing some maintenance or updating. The windows were old single paned windows that leaked cold air and several panes were cracked. The blinds did not keep the sunlight out in the morning even though I had them shut all the way. The mattress felt very old and I could feel springs through it and it sagged into the middle. The breakfast was nice but the tea was forgotten this morning but was brought the first day. Just didn't meet expectations for over $300 per night. Disappointing I haven't heard back from anyone regarding my feedback I sent so I assume that is protocol to not respond to guest concerns. I tried to provide several specific examples to help you address the issues. One more piece of feedback if you are going to ask customers for feedback and then ignore them because it's critical, you probably shouldn't ask and just provide facilities that you feel are good enough.

I want to be up front: I have stayed here for years. I read a review from a guest who stayed the same weekend I did (Thanksgiving) and who trashed the place. Wow, that is way off the mark. First of all, this is Carmel. Things are funky, the windows are not double paned, and things are not like at the W in Beverly Hills or the Ritz Carlton. They aren't, and if that is your expectation, don't visit Carmel unless you want to stay at the hotels in Carmel Highlands. The inns in the village have Carmel character. If you do not want that, stay somewhere else. The Vagabond is well-maintained and they have busted their butts on cleaning the rooms. It took them hours and several people to clean a room. Is there central heating: no, but between the fireplace, the wall heater, and the duvet you are plenty warm. We shut the heat off at night just like we do here in Half Moon Bay and were fine. No noise issues at all even though there were guests in the room above us. The staff could not be nicer. We asked for a coffee maker -- no problem. Julie thought she heard critters in the walls and the manager called right away and said, "no we were doing maintenance in the room above you." Breakfast is very nice and if we wanted an extra egg or bagel or more coffee -- no problem. The grounds are very well-maintained as are the rooms. Yes, the rooms are Carmel-funk, but this is Carmel after all. So that is why this is my go-to place over Thanksgiving weekends and when I am in Carmel. There are times where I spent Thanksgiving elsewhere or where I had to stay somewhere else in Carmel because they were booked, but this is my first choice by far. But, you have to understand Carmel funk.
