Do not recommend. Waste of money. Pictures looked decent, however it is deceptive. It smells musty and moldy. The furniture is old and mismatched. The carpet is gross. Bed was decent, however some pillows felt like someone stuffed laundry in them.

I booked on Booking.com a month in advance and there were NO details on the different rooms. Online made it look like all rooms were suites. I should've checked on the website to know more about what I was paying for. That's completely my fault. Big tip: online can be deceiving. Do thorough research before the cancellation window expires. But also, the poor description isn't why this review is what it is. The room was nice enough and deserves 3.5 stars on its own (the bathroom light is noisy and the water pressure is not that good. It's nothing special but not atrocious. Probably just a little outdated. ). My husband and I booked for a whole week and there was only one room available, the Greenwich room. It was cute, quiet... until the construction started. There was NO warning before booking that construction would be going on right next to our room. When we arrived, we had to sign a form acknowledging the construction... but it's not like we could cancel because it's outside of the 72 hour cancellation policy. I WOULD have cancelled if I had known about the construction. It's our Honeymoon... we want to sleep in. There is also NO AC so if we wanted a breeze or to not feel so stuffy, we had to keep either the window facing into the parking lot open (right next to the office where people are constantly coming and going) or the back window open... for the construction noises throughout all hours of the day. And the windows dont have screens to keep bugs out. The room was no longer peaceful or cozy. I think the most underhanded thing was that I checked some of the other rates for the bedrooms, like the St. Anne with a jacuzzi hot tub and fireplace or the Dickens with at least a microwave and mini bar... and they were $50 LESS per night than our room, with more amenities. I asked if I could have a discount for the room since it's pricier than their higher end rooms and we are rooming multiple nights in a row (which you would think would make it better pricewise) but no. I asked why those were so much cheaper and they couldn't give me a straight answer except that we had a walk in shower... right. Then it should be same price, not substantially heftier in price. No discount for construction waking us up every morning either, which is absolutely lying by omission on the state of the inn. I get that it's a business, but there is no way that any of that is fair. The location is ideal, right near the main Ocean Ave strip, a block away from a laundromat, and about 10 blocks from the beach, but there are SO many other places to stay that are worth the price that dont wake you up at 8am every day. And if they do, they better warn their tenants about it. It's the right thing to do. Honestly, I wouldn't be so pissed if they were just upfront about the construction at the time of booking and/or offered something for the inconvenience. It's a shady business practice. We wont be staying here again.

Stayed 4 nights at Briarwood Inn as a getaway with my husband. Cannot say enough good things about it! We stayed in unit 46. We loved having the small kitchen area with a refrigerator and coffee pot and microwave. Loved the small living room area. Bed was large and so comfortable! Bathroom was spacious and clean. The decor is outdated, but for us that just added to the charm of it! The location is absolute perfection. Walking distance to everything! Guy at the front desk was fantastic and helpful. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Carmel!

This hotel is quite near the center of the Carmel. It could use some upgrading overall. It is old. There is loud construction next door. I spoke with the person in charge about why the hotel does not specify there is loud construction next door. The hotel manager did not take any responsibility and refuse to provide a refund. He blamed the city of Carmel for issuing the permit of the loud work.

A pleasant hotel in a great location. The room is comfortable and clean. And the bed was comfortable. Like other reviews parking an issue, but not insurmountable. We only spent one night, but the hotel ticked the right boxes at a reasonable price for Carmel.

I tested positive for Covid the day before my stay. I did not want a refund, just a credit for a future stay. Management denied my request, telling me I should have canceled before I even knew I had Covid. Thanks for nothing, won’t be back.

well, cute room for me, the husband, adult daughter, but parking is super tight and internet is BAD. Walls very thin, heard the neighbors. No breakfast due to covid but many delightful restaurants and coffee shops within 5 minutes walk. Beach is a one mile walk. Everyone in town very friendly. Food is excellent, especially at Pangea. Window shopping is super fun, Monterey is an 8 minute drive. So location is great, I want to come back but will be staying somewhere else.

We stayed at Briarwood for a long weekend for a girls trip. The area is great and the units were clean, spacious and we had our own private patio area. We would definitely stay again! No WiFi in unit.

BEWARE of the 72 hr cancellation policy! Called the main desk 3 days in advance to notify of needing to drop the last night of reservation due to work, and left message as the clock had just turned 7:01pm. (There is NO ONE to help you at the inn if it isn’t during business hours.) Call was returned next day, AFTER being charged a full stay 2.5 days PRIOR to check in. Who has ever heard of being charged full amount ($1,000+) for a place to stay when check-in is DAYS away? We checked in for our 3 night stay, and explained again we had to leave after 2 nights…but it was at our loss/no credit. If I could have canceled the entire reservation 2.5 days ahead of time, I would have…but then we would have been out over $1,000. We stayed in room #S3… Pros: Clean room with premises in good condition. Friendly cleaning crew/staff. Arta & Augustina especially helpful and informative! Great organic in-room coffee from Carmel Valley Coffee. Cons: Mattresses firm, uncomfortable, and noisy. All windows without screens to keep bugs out. There is NO A/C…the upstairs gets hot/stuffy. No blackout options on windows for sleeping in, or with bright nighttime security lights. Think twice before booking here…I wished we had stayed elsewhere!

Good location, nice room, and pleasant service. However, there were two significant issues: 1. In spite of "bed and breakfast" in the name and "free breakfast" words in the facility description, Briarwood Inn DOES NOT serve breakfast. That will not be a big issue in most towns, but surprisingly there were no good choices for breakfast near the hotel. Of the 3 places suggested by the front desk, one accepted only cash, the second one offered brunch with prior reservations (none available even for the next day), and the third one did not open until 8:30 AM. 2. There were 5 parking places assigned for five rooms (including ours), which sounds good. Except that 3 of them were for compact cars only (even though big SUVs were parked there), leaving little room for our last car. Even more importantly, the driveway is very narrow to make a 90 degree turn into the parking space, without hitting the brick wall. One better be prepared to make forward and backward movements a few times (with someone guidance) to avoid damage to the car.
