Property's Favourite Review
My Mom and I spent a magnificent two days here in October. We walked in to check the place out, explained we were visiting from Wisconsin, and received the warmest welcome. We were lucky to snag the concourse suite which is so lovely. There was even a decanter of sherry in our room! The evening Happy Hour by their outdoor fireplace was very fun. Upon departing I was having trouble backing our rental car out of the parking spot and “Uncle Bobby” came to our rescue and backed out the large Dodge Charger. He even escorted us to the entrance to Pebble Beach. Just a wonderful and caring staff. We would have stayed longer but they were fully booked. Just go, you will love it!

We had a nice one night stay . The room was very clean with a comfortable bed and pillows. Tastefully decorated . The hotel provides a nice breakfast. It is conveniently located to the beach, nice shopping and great restaurants. We would have stayed a second night but the hotel was sold out . We would definitely stay here again.

I almost hesitate to leave a review because I'm afraid it will just be too hard to get a reservation in the future, but...the Lamp Lighter Inn was a delight to stay at. We stayed in the Blue Bird Cottage and it was even better than described. The staff was super friendly, the cat "Shadow" about moved in with us, and the location was great. If I can caution on anything (and I am really reaching here), the shower would be tough for a larger person. We're all smaller and had no problems, but if you are big and/or tall, you may find it cramped. Also, breakfast in the morning is limited, but we never planned on it and there is great food and coffee 2 blocks away. Aside from that, I'd come back and stay a week here in a heartbeat. They had nice fire pits going at night and a lap cat to keep you company. If you want to do me a favor, book somewhere else so I can get a reservation again. If you are more interested in having a great place to stay then you really should look at staying at the Lamp Lighter Inn.

We have stayed at the Lamp Lighter Inn for our wedding anniversary several times now. We love the quiet location, close proximity to the dog friendly beach and town. Our dog always loves it too! The rooms we have had have always been very clean , spacious and comfortable. This last stay was in the Hansel and Gretel cottage. Very spacious and private but in need of an update. We will be back I am sure next year but probably in a different cottage. Still our favorite Inn!

We stayed at the Lamp Lighter Inn in late June 2021. Our room was lovely, clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location is so convenient--just a short walk to restaurants, galleries, shops as well as the beach. The patio at Lamp Lighter is lovely with fire tables for cool evenings. A continental breakfast with coffee, etc. is served each morning. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to CA.

Location was fine and given the high prices in Carmel, it was lower but we stayed in the treehouse and the shutters were chipped and broken, paint missing and the door to the private patio was in disrepair. The floors were exceedingly cold and there is no heat outside of the single unit on the bedroom wall...so, a shower in cold weather was terrible. But then the shower was the size of a postage stamp although the ants didn't mind. The room's chairs were uncomfortable BUT the bed was good and I liked the hard pillow for my neck. The best amenity was the outdoor fireplace and their passive but friendly cat. The staff was nice, parking easy. Unfortunately, it was more old than quaint so I wouldn't pick it again for my personal taste.

Response from Denny LeVett, Owner at Lamp Lighter Inn & Sunset House Suites
Responded 12 Mar 2021
Hello, thank you for staying with us. We sincerely apologize that your stay was not to your taste. The Tree Top room is in need of a remodel, and we are actually in the process of getting permits to do just that. As we are a historical property the process takes a little longer. However, it does not excuse the ants and the cold stay. We will be sure to address the ant problem and make sure there are additional heaters in the room. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. The firepits are a great addition to the property and of course, our 16-year-old resident cat Shadow is the highlight, while she is friendly she is not quite as spunky as she used to be. Thank you for your detailed review as this is helpful for us in the future and again we sincerely apologize that your stay was less than enjoyable. We would love to invite you back at a later date if you are open to it. Thank you. Melyssa Smith Guests Relations Management

This is a great place to stay if you are a fan of quant. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location which is the closest hotel to the beach, can't be beat!!! The innkeeper was not very friendly. I just tried to be pleasant and that seemed to help. Great place to bring a dog as well.

Love the lamp lighter! Cute clean rooms, wonderful patio, friendly hosts and best of all, a few short blocks from the best beach in California. Pet friendly, staff always accommodating, nice continental breakfast and wine and cheese afternoon included. It’s the only place we stay in Carmel, highly recommend

My husband and I spent 2 nights here on our trip of California. Loved it. The atmosphere is very friendly especially with the outdoor seating area. Our room was up graded to a King size, The Sea Star room. It was gorgeous, bed big and comfortable, log fire and a jacuzzi bath! Breakfast was a little disappointing but adequate. Staff all friendly and helpful. I would love to go back. There is even a cat to compensate for all the dogs in Carmel

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience! We are glad you enjoyed our cozy inn. We do our utmost to make everyone feel welcome and at home. The sea star room is a favorite especially because of the jacuzzi bath! As for breakfast, we are always looking for ways to improve it as we don't have a full kitchen so thank you for bringing that to our attention. Shadow has always been our added bonus here at the inn so thank you for acknowledging her! We sincerely hope for a return visit in the near future! Guest Relations Management

My sister and I gave each other a weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea, for a Christmas present. Lamp Lighter Inn had everything we wanted and more; namely Melissa, the Innkeeper. She is the best! Melissa has great recommendations, in-depth knowledge of the area, is charismatic, and made us feel like family. Our room, the Early Bird Room was perfect for us. We especially loved the Dutch door and breakfast offerings in the garden courtyard with fireplace and cozy couches. The perfect common area for the guests. The location is perfect, as well. It's the closest lodging to the ocean and near downtown.
