We were struggling to find a place within budget because Carmel is so expensive. For the quality of the room I’d say you’re paying for location. The room was not worth the price tag. In fairness the lady on reception apologised for the size on booking. However the room was like a prison cell and we kept getting woken up by banging doors!! I enjoyed the breakfast which was simple fare but great quality. Staff were friendly and the lady with the long dark hair is adorable and very helpful
This is a lovely quirky hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable if a bit old fashioned. We had a view out to the sea from the top floor. Loved Carmel and this is a great hotel for families to stay in.
Staff were super friendly without being fussy and check-in/out was seamless. Our room was spotlessly clean if slightly old-fashioned but that just added to the charm. The location too is great at just a short stroll from the centre of the town. Would highly recommend.
I love visiting beautiful Carmel. I was recently there to meet two college friends to celebrate a milestone birthday together. Our experience at the Hofsas House could not have been more wonderful! The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. The rooms are very clean and very comfortable. And everyone at the hotel is tremendously kind and gracious and helpful. The owner of this family-owned hotel was so gracious and welcoming to us. I had to change my reservation via telephone, and Fernando went out of his way to very kindly and efficiently help me with everything. Staying here was such a delightful and positive experience for all of us in our party. I look forward to bringing my husband to stay here next time we are in Carmel. What a true gem this hotel is!
We had paid for a deluxe room with a king sized bed for 2 but were upgraded. We had a large 1 bedroom suite with 2 bathrooms, balcony & fireplace. The couch made into a bed. It was a dog friendly room and also included continental breakfast. Not much to write home about with breakfast. Coffee, orange juice, Fruit, sweet roll & yogurt. There was a small refrigerator, sink & microwave along with some flatware and basic plates. I gave it a 3 star rating because it was so outdated and the carpet was like garage type carpet. The only thing updated since the 80’s were the blinds and parts of the bathrooms. The towels were beautiful and the bed was good. Sticker price was $300 per night after fees & taxes. I would have thought a more stylish/updated version would be worth this amount………
Dog-friendly, cozy, family-owned inn with character. We stayed here recently and, while it was a little noisy right outside of our room in the mornings with housekeeping set up next door, we enjoyed our time here. The inn is in a convenient location to walk to the restaurants and shops in town. The continental breakfast each morning included fresh pastries from a local bakery, juice, yogurt, fruit, and a good pot of coffee which we brought back to our room to enjoy. The pool is small but good enough for my husband to swim some short laps. I especially loved how dog-friendly they are! They even gave us a collapsible water bowl that we brought with us for lovely walks along the beach.
This is a fine hotel, with a great story of how it was started and has stayed in the family. It is older, but well maintained. The only problem that we had was noise, as there were several families whose kids ran around a lot. The room was spacious. The pool could have been warmer. The continental breakfast was more than adequate. Location is great for Carmel. The staff were all wonderful people.
We stayed at Hofsas house Hotel for 3 nights. We were family of four and the room is big and very comfortable. Linen super clean and soft and the fireplace was very special and romantic! The hotel location is great. Thank you Carrie for taking good care of us. Definitely we will come back!
Our family and doggie stayed here for Poodle weekend in 2021. We had a very spacious family suite. The place has great character and fun decor. The kitchen and bathrooms are a bit outdated but very clean. The bathrooms are very small, but they worked OK for us. Breakfast during COVID was available at reception and we could pick up a tray to bring back to the room. It was simple but the kids enjoyed the yogurt and pastries. Parking is convenient and the pool is small but a great distraction. I would definitely come back.
We booked 2 nights at the Hofsas House Hotel and had issues with the bathroom mirror, lighting, and counter space. They are dog friendly which many places are but then the dog barking was disruptive to peace and a good nights sleep. - Dog gone it! - We had room 47 on the 4th floor and no elevator so be young and healthy to haul your heavier luggage up 13 steps from street level. Most parking is down behind on steep sloping.
