We were looking for a place to stay Saturday near Sonora and this cute little cottage was available. Nothing fancy, but clean. If your looking for a ton of amenities and frills then don't stay here. But if your looking for great service and a clean, comfortable room for a good price, then here you go.

We had extremely good service from booking all the way through our stay. Rene is very helpful and courteous. We had a cabin, which was small (although we have a big dog who helped fill it up!) and somewhat dated and worn, but clean. Road noise was minimal despite being fairly close. Good price for the value, and pets are...

Great place, fantastic location. Easy striking distance to Sonora, Murphys, Twain Harte, Jamestown, etc. Run by a really nice guy. Simple but peaceful rooms that remind one of the golden age of American motels.

WOW......what an amazing Saturday night's stay at the quaint little motel. It actually has individual cottages that are all different sizes that fits different people's needs. First, about the hosts - Rene & Louise. Rene is the owner who is a delightful host. He made us feel very welcome. We were two families and were allotted junior suite # 9...

My wife and I and our two dogs needed a place to stay while my wife took a summer class at Columbia College. I am so thankful we chose to stay at the Gem Motel. Everything went so well we really didn't want to leave. Rene, the manager, was so helpful and a kick to talk to. He went out...

Needed a last minute place to stay while in Sonora area over Memorial Day weekend. Because our time off came at the last minute, we were unable to book motel stay in advance like we usually do. As a result, our options of places to stay were extremely limited, and we were eventually routed to the Columbia Gem and able...

We did an overnight trip to the area and needed a place that was dog friendly. We found the Columbia Gem. We stayed in one of their cabins which was the size of a guest room, but nice that it was separate and private. It was a cute little place, quiet, clean, had air conditioning, microwave fridge and all additional...

My boyfriend and I were visiting his parents in Columbia over Memorial Day weekend and we had the most pleasant stay at Columbia Gem. The room was spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean and quaintly decorated. Ample towels were provided and although they were a bit small, they were abundant and our friendly housekeeper, Louise, was more than willing to give us...

Cute tiny cabins. We spent one night in cabin number 5. Room was clean and tidy. The cabins are very small - but enough if all you want is to bath and sleep for a night or two. First the bathing part - the towels were on the small side (high school gym size) were clean but stained. Bathroom is...

Hello livinginprunecity: Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time to write a review. It is quite a balancing act trying to find a medium between a hard and a soft mattress. All of our mattresses and bedding are kept new and fresh. We exchange all of our mattresses, bedding, etc. frequently. I'm sorry that...

The Columbia Gem Motel is a wonderful place to stay when in the Sonora-Columbia area. We have stayed there many times over the last 10 years. Rene, the host, is sincerely dedicated to providing a clean, customer service-oriented establishment. We love the personal treatment we receive -- unlike any national chain establishment. The cottages are compact, but charming. Given its...

“I was told room - 1 is a two room suite. We had room - 9 & 10. They had two queens beds.”

“We stayed in #3 which is a small and cozy room. The view we had from this room I would say is the best. I could see deer each day, quail once in awhile, and some of the most beautiful butterflies. Very nice.”

“Ask about beds in cabins/rooms before booking. Most come with FULL beds which is fine for kids...several rooms do have queens..no kings, and they seem to be on the older, more worn, variety.. be advised.”

“Room 9 was perfect. It had two queen beds, one a little firmer than the other so we were able to pick and choose based on our personal preferences.”
