I found this place, last minute, when I changed my plans and decided to skip spending the night in Berkeley and travel on to the place where I intended to start my afternoon drive down Hwy 1. I can't recall how I found it--TripAdvisor comes up blank when you use their search function. But I stumbled upon it... and felt...

San Benito House is located in the center of Half Moon Bay and thus in walking distance to many restaurants, shops, etc. The rooms are over the bar on the first floor. It is an excellent bar, friendly and a good selection of draught beer. It is also excellent in that it is lively, loud, and full of patrons until...

I can't express enough how much fun we had at San Benito Ale House. We stayed at the hotel upstairs for 2 nights, spent some time at the bar downstairs and also had lunch at the adjacent deli. All three experiences were so great. Such a fun little getaway for us. We read some reviews on Yelp before we visited,...

An old Historic Hotel in downtown. Has charm, history and the staff was delightful. Our room was small, but the bed quite comfortable and I loved the pillows. I only wish I could have brought them home with me. We had no trouble with the noise, but we were there on a midweek night. We choose to share a bath...

We thought maybe a Sunday night, and upgrade to the finest room. The room is above the bar??? It seems their solution to the noise they know you will experience is to supply you with ear plugs. They don't make ear plugs that are good enough to drown out the noise. Nice enough room but no way you will sleep....

Ear plugs are included in your welcome basket. That should tell you something. The bed was like a lumpy marshmallow. The noise was relentless. Half Moon Bay is nice and this building is historic, but find another place to stay.

Charming turn of the century historic hotel in downtown with plenty of street parking and convenience. Lisa checked me in with great service and a positive attitude. Room was immaculate and comfortable with no TV. The lovely grounds host weddings and events. A more than adequate free breakfast is laud out in the large dining room next to the bar/cafe....

This was by far the worst experience we have ever had at any hotel. We had a groupon for two nights and ended up coming home after one night. 1. The fire alarm battery was low and beeping all night. I called downstairs to have them fix it and they said they would have someone fix it in the morning....

No doubt you'll read other accounts of this hotel, not all favourable. However, although rooms are basic, their clean. We arrived 4.30pm on a early October Friday, were offered a double without shower or a double with private bathroom, a difference in price of $30. Opted for room without shower, but when checking in manageress came past and offered us...

Too bad that I didn't read reviews before my stay. I can't understand how anyone could expect to pull off running a hotel over a loud and annoying bar? I don't think that the owners/operators of this establishment are doing a service to the public. It's actually embarrassing to see that this operation is being attempted. I can't see this...

“DO NOT stay in the romantic suite!!!!!! Stay away from above the bar/restaurant/staircase. Stay on the patio side of hotel best. Room #1 & #2 (#2 room w/large white-wood headboard on website) are fine..... No showers - only clawfoot tubs. No: TV-phone-coffee-drinking glasses-no frills. Website pictures are accurate. Go make some friends but plan on sleeping when you get home. Enjoy the downtown when the traffic is dead locked and not moving for hours.”
