First of all, the pool is amazing. Beautiful view and everyone working by the pool was very nice. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was terrible. We just got married this past weekend at a beautiful winery and came to La Jolla for our honeymoon....More

Dear Honeymooner,
First, allow me to say best wishes to you and your husband, and we are honored that you chose La Valencia for your honeymoon.
I am so sorry that La Valencia did not deliver our renowned, enchanting and personable guest experience. It is...More
We enjoyed our 5 night stay for the most part. The pool is pleasant and comfortable, staff is accommodating and polite, and in general the place has a retro, old-California feel that reminds me of visiting So-Cal in the 60s and 70s. All that is...More

As we sit on the chaise lounge around the pool area graciously served by the exceptional Robert Snow, we are reflecting on how brilliant we were to choose this place for my husband’s business trip. We had no idea what to expect but were pleasantly...More

We recently stayed at the hotel in a Classic Ocean Suite (Suite 25). The hotel's common areas and pool were beautiful and the valet service very good. The room, however, did not meet expectations. The view was really great but this room had a lower...More

Dear Daniel,
I would like to thank you for your thoughtful and honest review. I sincerely appreciate the compliments you gave regarding the pool and other public areas and our brilliant valets. I'm sorry to hear that your room didn't meet your expectations. I can...More
Sadly the hotel is dated and of a bygone era. The rooms are tired and in desperate need of a facelift. The public areas are ok, and cater to a certain crowd, but the accommodations are sorely lacking. The towels are old and worn, very...More

Dear Galireza,
I was distressed to read your review. I do sincerely appreciate your kind words about our location and staff. La Valencia has been the cornerstone of the Village of La Jolla for over 9 decades and has continually made updates to the property...More

Sorry, just saw your question regarding the walk to the beach.
The hotel is not located directly on the beach front. It is on a hill that overlooks the beach and the hill is relatively steep. I believe there are two methods for accessing the beach from the hotel, but I'm not certain about one of the methods...
*Method 1: walk around the block from the lobby/valet area then down the hill. This will be in the neighborhood of .5 miles from hotel to beach.
*Method 2: the method I'm unsure of is related to taking a rather steep staircase down. I didn't try it, so can't comment on whether the staircase goes all the way down the hill to the beach street level - I only went from the hotel lobby to the on-site pool area. The hotel staff will likely be able to answer this one. The distance will be shorter, but the effort will be greater.
Hope my reply isn't too late to be helpful!
