The Grand Colonial Hotel is a gorgeous historical hotel. Parking is a little tricky downtown La Jolla if you choose not to use valet service. However it is doable if you are patient. Check in was a breeze. We had beautiful views from our ocean view room; including from the closet! The room was big enough for the two of...

Dear Rorsborn: I am so happy to read how much you enjoyed visiting the Grande Colonial. I appreciate very much you taking the time to write such a comprehensive review covering everything from check in to the in-room amenities and from the service you received to your dining experience at NINE-TEN. I am also grateful for your appreciation of our...

We decided a quick one night trip to La Jolla would be a nice getaway - we forgot that we live with millions of other people! La Jolla was jammed! Lots of traffic and folks everywhere! Truth is that the weather was outstanding for a November weekend and everyone was out enjoying the ocean views and the sunny, clear sky....

Dear JacarandaSpirit: I loved hearing how you stumbled upon our hotel and were able to get the last room available for your last minute little getaway. It sounds like you actually scored a great room, as those that are designed to accommodate our guests with disabilities do provide a great deal more space than some of our standard rooms. Glad...

Great style and statue of this impressive building . Quick internet but noisy rooms at front over restaurant bar. Rooms very best and service excellent. Love the area and beachfront is cool. Plenty of walking will keep you fit, lots of eateries apart from hotels ? Bring your big wallet and credit cards

Dear Andysunkey: Thank you for all the wonderful adjectives you used to describe us: Classy...elegant....great style...impressive....excellent service. These are all just the types of words I want all of our guests to use when they leave and describe us to their friends and family. I couldn't be more pleased to read how much you enjoyed your visit. My husband and I met some friends here for a weekend visit. The rooms are charming and the bed is comfortable. We got an ocean view king room, which gave us not only a little view of the ocean but also allowed us to hear the waves crashing at night while we slept (very relaxing). I could also hear someone...

Dear Vacationer2Maine: So happy to hear how much you enjoyed our friendly, little hotel. We are indeed not your cookie-cutter hotel. And one of the special things we hear many guests comment on is the ability to open your windows to enjoy the fresh ocean breezes and sounds of the Pacific. You can't do that in most hotels and we're...

If you want to be in the heart of La Jolla, the Grand Colonial is a solid pick. It's a quick walk around the corner to the beach, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. We took advantage of a ocean view upgrade that was offered upon booking and while you could see the ocean, if you're going...

I reserved 3 rooms Oct. 24-26, 2015. This was our 4th time staying at the wonderful Grand Colonial.
