My husband and I stayed at the Yosemite Gateway Motel on Sunday night. It was so disappointing. We had understood we would get air conditioning, we did not and the desk clerk was so dismissive when questioned about this. We also were charged about 100 dollars more when we booked a long time in advance over the person who came in that evening. It was hot, the room was old and we were overcharged. Not good, sad way to start vacation
Seems that this expensive place has been updated--decades ago. It has the dubious distinction of being the most disappointing lodging establishment that we've patronized for many years. Where to begin? For starters, why does TripAdvisor list air conditioning as an amenity here when we didn't have it. When my wife complained to the young and thoroughly dismissive desk clerk, she was told, "Well, you didn't ask for it." Since when do you have to ask for air conditioning in 2022? So we sweltered in 80 plus degree heat with nothing more than a fan blowing the hot air around. Other gripes: warped doors, insufficient lighting, and amazingly, no GFI circuit in the bathroom. I've never seen that! Late arriving guests were offered a room rate nearly $100 less than we paid.
Great views from the deck, but the screens in the bedroom windows somewhat obscured the views. The TV in the front room was extra large, but the sofa from which to view the TV was SO old and worn out, super uncomfortable. And finally, we awoke to a fellow traveler whose car had been broken into by a BEAR. Yes, they'd left some food in the vehicle, but I would have like to have been warned beforehand that this was a possibility. Would not stay again.
The room was fine. However there wasNO AIR CONDITIONING in our unit. There was a “cooling unit” in the room that did not work to cool much. The location was great. Thankfully we are only staying one night and going to Yosemite in the morning. Go someplace else
Great place to stay if you want to be close to Mono Lake and Bodie State Park. The bed was very comfortable, the mini-fridge in the room was useful and the room was clean. There are also restaurants and gift shops right across the street. I mean it's a pretty basic motor court motel with few "thrills" but its clean and comfortable with free parking and a great place to stay for a night.
NO AIR CONDITIONING -Was told the unit runs on water- fill with a pitcher turn it on. The motor puts out heat and the fan blows out warm air. No cooling involved. Only had a patio door screen to let cool air in as people walked by to get to their rooms and the bed was in full view. No window fan , no ceiling fan. Also. my room was paid for in points ahead of time. I was still charged over $170. That tells me she double collected on that room $340 for a room with no AC AND NO PHONE, ETC , We had to go up and down steps that were outside to get to our room. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE EVER
We enjoyed our one night stay in room 18 June 27th. The room was clean, the AC worked great, and the beds were comfortable. the Wifi worked well also. We enjoyed the view of Mono Lake from the outside chairs and tables. We had no issues with noise from neighbors or the highway. We always use a white noise machine. I forgot something in the room when we left and the management promptly mailed it to me. I appreciate that customer service. I would stay here again.
I stayed here for one night and honestly it is worse than your average motel. The little “AC” they give you does nothing at all to cool down your room it’s useless and there are no fans in the room. The property also needs some upkeep renovations. Just get an Air B&B and skip this place. Awful.
One of the worst value-for-money hotel rooms I have ever stayed at. The room has no fridge, no air condition (the fan is useless in the summer heat), and no real door (just an old sliding door that locks with a tiny latch). The advertised “balcony” is actually the open corridor that leads to the rooms, and the “lake view” is a joke - the only view is boring hills and the lake is very far in the distance. The staff wasn’t too nice either, and the price was far too high for this steaming-hot basic room.
Motel is in a great location with a view of Mono Lake. There are 2 restaurants directly across the street. Good COVID precautions. Rooms are updated to provide ample plug in for devices, the beds are comfortable, and it was clean and well cared for. The service was above and beyond. I left my phone charger in the room when we checked out. I called the next day and they found it and mailed it priority mail the very next day. A big thank you to Rose and her manager for being so thoughtful. I would definitely stay here again!
