We always stay in the "Historic Hotel" part, not the more updated Motel part. The historic rooms are comfortable and it's great to go into the lobby / main room with the grand fire place and all the mementos on the walls. There is so...More
Lone Pine and the Dow Villa Motel has become our favorite stop-over place when driving Hwy 395 in the Eastern Sierra's. We prefer the newer 2 story motel, but a walk through the movie memorabilia in the main old hotel is a must. Rooms are...More
Stayed for one night. Excellent stop along the way to (for example) Mammoth. Very nice view. Right along Main Street with restaurants just around the corner. Had all the basic ingredients but looked a bit outdated aka historic depending on your mood. Clean and neat.

That really depends on what you are interested in lodging wise. One area is more modernized while the other really has that cowboy charm. Both sides are well maintained. The Dow Villa Motel is three diamond AAA rated and has all of the AAA amenities. This amenities include a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, free WiFi, and personal climate control. Lodging in the Dow Historic Hotel is based on the 1930's style and amenities are more lobby based. You have access to coffee, a microwave, refrigerator, and WiFi, but they are all accessed through the lobby or from the front desk staff. The heating and cooling are central units controlled by the front desk. Their is no individualized thermostat in the room. What it really boils down to is, who is Baconbutt, and what makes a stay great for him/her?
