Booked this hotel as a spur of the moment stop on our way home from Yosemite. What a great place! We had the king whirlpool room and it was plenty of room for our family of 4. There is a nice pool that was perfect...More
My first stay at the Dow Villa. I usually pick a "brand name" in the area. I have been to meetings at the Dow and decided to try it out.
I was impressed with the historic hotel. All the Hollywood Stars stayed here while filming...More
We planned to stay at Furnace Creek but at 116 deg it was too inhospitable. The next major town Lone Pines was 2.5 hours away and was sold out apart from 2 rooms at the Dow Motel. We wasn't expecting much but this place is...More
This has become our spot to spend the night in a trip to Mammoth. There is no "luxury" in Owens Valley, but the Dow Villa is reliable for decent sleep, clean rooms & a spectacular view. Doesn't hurt that the Alabama Hills Bakery is across...More

That really depends on what you are interested in lodging wise. One area is more modernized while the other really has that cowboy charm. Both sides are well maintained. The Dow Villa Motel is three diamond AAA rated and has all of the AAA amenities. This amenities include a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, free WiFi, and personal climate control. Lodging in the Dow Historic Hotel is based on the 1930's style and amenities are more lobby based. You have access to coffee, a microwave, refrigerator, and WiFi, but they are all accessed through the lobby or from the front desk staff. The heating and cooling are central units controlled by the front desk. Their is no individualized thermostat in the room. What it really boils down to is, who is Baconbutt, and what makes a stay great for him/her?
