Discover your private Malibu retreat nestled on four lush acres off the famed Pacific Coast Highway. Introducing the latest Hotel June from the team behind Proper Hotels - a reimagining of beloved Mid-century bungalows that served as historic hideaways for wayfaring writers, musicians, and artists on iconic Point Dume. Hotel June will open with 13 renovated bungalows; takeaway fare from our Cal-Mex-inspired restaurant-bar (with a limited menu at opening); and one of Malibu's only hotel swimming pools (opening Fall 2021). Consider it a modern homage to the spirit of historic Malibu - an entirely one-of- a-kind property that offers the best of both worlds: a perfect location just off the PCH and minutes from the beach...and a private, peaceful retreat for escaping into your own world.

We were only there for one night but really loved the hotel. It is small, quaint, super clean and felt very new. The pool was warm (in mid-December) and the beds were comfy. Thanks for a great stay! We will come back

The staffm and quality of the room was excellent. Beer, wine and water were offered as a free amenity. On site parking is located down hill from the rooms and can be used for a charge of $25 per day. Alternatively, if you arrive with your own car one can park are a highly used, noisy, coast highway. There is a facility charge of $25 per day as well which I misunderstood to cover use of the pool. However, this is a charge to have internet and TV as well. So, figure the daily rate plus $50 per day. I felt because of the relatively remote location these fees should have been in the up front cost of using this hotel.
The weekend is very noisy with the room courtyards facing the busy highway. Slightly less noisy on the weekday with fewer sirens and less traffic. I noted there were in room ear plugs.
I cannot recommend this hotel for use during the day.

I have mixed feelings about this Malibu location because it is situated by loud roads. I think this motel was renovated to perfection. I loved the decor. The hospitality was great but it is limiting bc they don’t have a kitchen nor liquor license yet. Also as the layout is a motel the common areas and amenities are limited. I found the staff very nice and helpful. The rooms are clean and straightforward. The garden area in the back of your room faces pacific highway so it is not that relaxing with cars and trucks driving by. Breakfast was simple but really good: baked goods and granola, great coffee and lobby patio if the weather is good is really pleasant. They also offer snacks like cheese board and some salami and that was nice. We paid for all snacks. I really wanted like this place because it is just so cool but the location for us was not ideal especially for the price we paid bc it was peak pricing. To give you an idea for 250 more we could have stayed at Santa Monica Proper which we had done so earlier in the week… at the peak price we paid more guest perks and freebies are needed to justify price and location.

Good Afternoon, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this thoughtful review. I am happy to hear that the staff was friendly and welcoming, you enjoyed the beautiful rooms as well as were able to take advantage of the Gjusta breakfast items and our beautiful patio. That being said, I am very sorry for any noise disturbances you experienced during your stay due to the close proximity to PCH. Best, Leah

Amazing, relaxing, thoughtful hotel with fantastic poolside vibes. OK location - on PCH but not near beach. My problem is value for money. I understand the occupancy tax, but guest amenity fees and health and wellness surcharges seem really like the same thing, and the room rate is already above market rate for the location, quality, and amenities that were available for Hotel June, and tacking on additional $25 per day for parking, and then an additional $2.50 for parking tax....just seems like we are being squeezed for more and more fees even if they're small - I don't think Hotel June should be coming off as a place that nickels and dimes.....it really doesn't sit well.

Rooms are very attractive and pool was lovely. Staff friendly and welcome drink on arrival was a nice touch. But location right off very busy and loud road made us feel the high prices were really not justified. And charging $25 per night to park your own car felt mean.

The additional fees this hotel charges are robbery. Advertised room rate of $565 was so far from the total amount of $730 we ended up paying for our single night stay. $25 self parking fee to "cover their security cost" and then an additional $25 Guest Amenity Fee for a couple of waters on arrival is disgraceful.

Good Evening, Thank you for taking the time to write this review and I am terribly sorry if you felt mislead by the pricing as we aim to be as transparent as possible when booking with us. Our rates are displayed as nightly rates and when you view the price breakdown & policies, it does list every tax and fee associated as well as the final total expected for the stay outside of incidental charges. Again, I apologize if this was not clearly communicated. Best, Leah

This is the most overpriced property I have ever stayed at. The Hotel June Malibu is essentially a motel with a patio. The patio is cute, and the shower is nice, but that is where it ends. Floors look like a concrete parking lot, there is one tiny mirror in the room and no chair. It looks like a motel room that was scraped clean and then a few beach pictures added on. Also, NO amenities. No bar. No food (other than one piece banana bread). Also, expect to pay 25 bucks on top of the already exorbitant rates to park in a sand lot behind the motel. The plus side - there is coffee in the morning. If you want a scaled down experience at this price, stay at the Surfrider (at least there you can enjoy the rooftop bar and the view of the ocean).

However, I am happy to hear that you were able to take advantage of the Gjusta pastry offerings we have, along with many other to-go options, during your stay with us. Best, Leah

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel June! Shania at the front desk was so welcoming, offering suggestions on things to do and eat in the area. The pool area was really nice and the pool itself was heated, almost felt like a hot tub! The room itself was modern but cozy. It had everything you need, and offered plenty of snacks and drinks. There’s even a little patio in the back with chairs and a hammock! The hotel is right off Pacific Coast Highway but you can’t hear the traffic (only frogs at night which was honestly peaceful). There’s complimentary coffee and also snacks for purchase in the lobby. The location is really close to Point Dume and Paradise Cove, as well as other great beaches in Malibu. I would stay here again in the future!

Stupidly I ignored the reviews and was suckered in by the clever photography on their website and booked 2 nights in the family room with bunk beds at $529 per night including breakfast (up to $20). Given the price point and the other fantastic hotels we have stayed in on our trip, I expected a good hotel room and breakfast for all 4 of us. The room was basic at best. There was no closet, drawers or safe. The room looked like an unfinished garage conversion waiting for someone to reattach the skirting board, regrout the sink and replace the extractor fan. The seats in the outside seating area were dirty and uninviting, there were hair grips from the previous occupant in the bathroom. The $20 breakfast was the total for all 4 of us and covered 2 pastries and a bottle of orange juice so we had to go out for breakfast. The $25 dollar charge for parking was laughable as it was at the end of a dirt track rather than a proper parking lot. There was also a health and wellness surcharge added to our bill which is not mentioned anywhere on any communication prior to checking out. This hotel is run by con artists - they fleece you for every $ and provide a very basic experience. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

I agree with other reviewers who say this is a VERY expensive motel. The value for money isn't there, for me. I've stayed at the Hotel June near LAX xo I was expecting the same value for money. My published rate was $579/night but with taxes and fees it was effectively $725/night. That's way more than I pay to stay in Beverly Hills. The bathroom is tiny (good shower though) and it doesn't even have a real door. All the plants on the patio were dead. I asked for a quiet room and was given "our quietest room" which was right next to the common area and pool. I've diriven by this property for many years and I wish I had realized it was that particular property--right next to the PCH! Honestly, I didn't feel safe there. Anyone could drive in there. None of the windows and doors closed properly. When I went for breakfast the 2nd morning they only had one pastry left. If I had paid $250/night I would have been somewhat disappointed but I feel a combination of anger and stupidity for paying $1500 for a two night stay. I could have stayed at the Waldorf Astoria for that price.

Good Afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to fill out our survey, we appreciate your feedback and will take all of your concerns into consideration as we move forward. I do apologize that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Being that we are a small boutique hotel, we offer a very specific experience that may not be preferred by everyone. We try to be as transparent as possible on our website when detailing which amenities we offer, the layout of our property, and our pricing. We know that noise can be an issue, so we note that we are located on the PCH in order that our guests would be aware before they book with us. I know we tried to honor your noise request by putting you in the room that was furthest from the highway, but I do apologize that you experienced some noise coming from the pool area. Again, we apologize deeply that you did not enjoy your time here as it is always our utmost goal to provide the best experience possible to our guests. All the best, Shelby House Manager

No, not yet. We are hoping to have the pool open in March.

It would be a bit of a walk. You'd have to walk through the neighborhood to the tip of Point Dume. There is beach access there. Actually a pretty walk through a short trail and down some steps to the beach. There is limited parking at the trailhead. Don't park elsewhere in the neighborhood. You can also access the same beach (Point Dume State Beach) by driving north on the PCH to the Zuma Beach exit.
