My 2 grown daughters and I were greeted by a lovely man named Jay, a most gracious and extremely humorous person. He had us laughing from the minute we got there. He was most helpful and tended to our every need. And there were many. Like the AC wasn't working or should I say the swamp cooler wasn't, stove wasn't working, what was wrong with the water, we only got 2 bath towels when there was 3 of us...etc. All problems were remedied except for the water and the traffic noise. The highly toxic blooming algae was so bad that no one except one couple went in the water in a kayak. So we were extremely disappointed that there was no water to be had on our trip. That being said, we managed to have a really fun time anyway. The room was rustic and funky, but we didn't expect anything fancy. A "glamping" style of experience with a bare bones kitchenette and a little microwave. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing with plenty of area to kick back and chill. Every room has it's own private deck with view of the river. Upon check-out we were 27 minutes late as we had overslept, but we hustled to get out as quickly as possible. Jay was knocking at the door giving us a gentle nudge because he had the next people coming and he needed to clean the room. But when he saw that we left dishes in the sink, he got very mad and said that we should never have left dirty dishes! 1. I saw nowhere in the contract that we were to leave a clean kitchen, 2. we didn't have time to clean up or else we certainly would have washed the dishes the night before. 3. Don't they re-wash them anyway and sanitize them to make sure they are clean??? I then offered to wash them but he said NO! So he said we probably won't be able to come to the resort again. So I spent over $500.00 to get balled out for not doing my chores...Gee whiz

We were beyond excited we had spent 3 wonderful days in bodega boy and decided to extend our stay another night the only vacancy we found was here at River View upon arriving the outside area flowers everything was so beautiful. We were greeted by the owner of the place whom from the second we got there micromanaged how and where we park was told we couldn’t check in at 2:00 like the reservations said. No big deal we went to lunch and came back we got into our room where Which was decent but by far nothing special. The bathroom door was locked and we had to use a safety pin to unlock it, there was a sign in the bathroom to not flush your toilet paper! That’s disgusting and uncomfortable for anyone to do. We were told by the owner that the water was safe to swim in but within 10 min a local yelled across the way that there was toxic algae (blue&green) when we then got out of the water and went to shower off when we realized we were only provided two towels which were obviously hand washed and air dryed. We went to sit by the water and take pictures at 6pm we were told that we are too loud when all we were doing was laughing. Then we went to our room to play cards and listen to music which we were then told no music alloweded!! This place is for elderly people who want to enjoy looking at the River and enjoy peace and quiet. There is nothing nice about this place the coffee is watery and when we went to leave we were told that we would be charged for a towel that we used to clean an orange juice spill. Mind you the towels are crunchy and hurt to wrap around your body. The owner is very rude the cleaning is done by him with a disgusting old dirty vacuum that he leaves in the open for everyone to see. I felt gross walking on the floor.

I have stayed here twice this summer to get away from my busy life in the Bay Area to enjoy nature and being near water. In my opinion and having experienced it, this hotel has one of the best riverfront settings in Monte Rio. A nice lawn area, chairs to sit in to view the river and beautiful gardens on the property and complimentary kayak usage for guests while staying at the hotel. This was my little oasis this summer and a secret I almost hate to give away. Jay, the owner, works very hard to make you feel at home. Some rooms have small kitchens and refrigerators, there's even a BBQ to use. At this property, it's all about location. If you want to relax and be riverfront, with a great host, look no further. Sure, the hotel can use a little updating to modernize, however, you can choose between a great location with a reasonable price or paying more for a more modern room without all of these great grounds, gardens and amenities. That's your choice. I've chosen location, river views, peaceful kayak paddles down the river and a friendly atmosphere with a great host--twice! And I'll be back.

We stayed in the rustic cabin for four nights and had a fantastic time. Jay is an incredible host and very welcoming. We loved using the fireplace for those cold fall nights and the kayak during the sunny days. We would definitely return!

In general the resort grounds are beautiful, the rooms quaint, the staff very accommodating, but then there is Room A2... Families with children will love A2. The funky floor plan includes a three story spiral stair that kids can safely run up and down all day (night?). The low ceiling upstairs is more suited to the diminutive of stature anyway ; ). The unit has a full, if small, kitchen, though you may want to bring your own cooking/serving utensils (they have some, but it’s a bit hit or miss). Staff will try to supply what’s missing. Don’t hesitate to ask as they are genuinely nice people. Problems with the unit are: If you are using this room with a third adult, or two couples, the stairs may be a problem. There is no toilet upstairs. The 1st floor bathroom, as it is, is rather cramped, especially as you have to sit angled on the commode! Flushing TP down the toilet is verboten, you’re to place it in the little covered trash bin - no cheating on this one! WiFi? Ha...ha, ha, ha,ha (milk out the nose funny). Evidently, someone absconded with the router, probably a resident raccoon or something. I’ll leave it to you to find the strongest signal (Hint: it’s not on the first floor).
