A fantastic place to stay in Monterey. Lovely big, clean room, close to the pier, restaurants and cannery row. Staff were lovely and friendly. We also stayed here to visit Carmel, as it was only a 15 minute drive, and much cheaper than anywhere we could see in Carmel. Also included breakfast and free parking.
What a pleasant surprise! So many good things to say about the Colton Inn! We took a chance when my son & I needed a day-of reservation in Monterey. Spacious, comfortable and well-equipped room with a deck. Continental breakfast was a plus in a cozy space. Super friendly & gracious staff that show they care about their guests and take pride in their hotel! Walking distance (5-7 mins) to restaurants and Peets in a beautiful and cool neighborhood. Adequate free parking at hotel. 5-7 min walk to catch the free trolley at the Monterey Transit Plaza that stops at many tourist destinations including the Aquarium. Hotel price was a great value! Such a more affordable and enjoyable alternative to big-name, brand hotels in Monterrey. I’d stay at the Colton Inn again in a heartbeat!
My family of 4 (including 2 kids) had a wonderful stay at Colton Inn. We were welcomed by a most friendly receptionist when we arrived in the evening. In addition to checking us in, she invited us to the warm beverages (coffee and hot water for hot chocolate and an extensive collection of teas), and gave me extensive advice as to where to park the following day for the aquarium. The room was clean and comfortable. A large heater provided generous warmth. Beds were comfortable, pillows fluffy. Bathroom was clean. Light breakfast provided in a lovely breakfast area complete with fireplace and deck. Parking ample and with easy access to rooms. Location: convenient for easy access to downtown and to wharf area and aquarium. Restaurants under a 10 minute walk away. Area was safe. I would definitely stay here again.…
Great location, clean spacious rooms, free parking. The wifi connection was abit weak as for the corner rooms, but otherwise, everything was great. Breakfast selection was good, staff were super friendly and helpful.
The hotel is fine, except the staff. The general manager is an awful human being. She is rude, dismissive and should not be in the hospitality industry in any way. Doesn't even look up to address people in the eye when "helping" you. She was also overheard yelling at and berating her staff by other guests via their radios. I would never recommend this Inn or ever direct anyone to stay there until they get rid of her.
This hotel is all about the service. Their staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. Their breakfast was more than I expected and they have a more than adequate spread. I had the twin family room with a fireplace. The room is a very good size. I did not use the fireplace as they had an electric heater and that was sufficient for me. The only issue with the room might be in the warmer months as they don't have air-conditioning and only have one ceiling fan. But given I was there in November , I was comfortable in the room. Although the hotel is a bit old, the room was well maintained and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is in a good location as its less than 10 mins walk to the downtown restaurants and shops. You pretty much can walk to most places from the hotel in about 15 mins or so. I will come back when I am in Monterey again. At this price , they are a very food option and I am glad I chose to stay here.…

It was a great surprise to find a nice and good hotel near Monterey atractions, just walking distance. The staff was friendly, specially Victoria , was very helpfull and her spanish was great and help me feel more confortable. I will definitely stay again :)
Ellen and her staff are very friendly, helpful, and accomodating. The Colton Inn is the perfect spot for a multi generational weekend in Monterey. I needed to find accomodations for traveling with my aging parents who require an accessible room. Ellen was so helpful to not only book that for my parents, but also to arrange for me to be in the room next door. Both our rooms opened to the lovely deck and adjoining breakfast/dining room making it very convenient and close for my parents to be seated at a patio table for their contintental breakfast. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. The all day coffee and afternoon treats were a special touch. Although we didn't use it, there is a bbq avaialble on the patio deck. A great appraisal of the inn comes from my dad as we're planning a second trip to visit family in November, "Of course we need to go back to the Colton Inn."…
First of all, MOST of the staff was nice. This is a basic "motel". For over $250 a night, this is way too overpriced. you get a bed, a mini fridge, coffee maker. the amenities are super basic, the soaps smell like cheap bathroom cleaner. The breakfast 'included' is just bagels and orange juice or milk in shot glass size mini cups... no eggs, ham, or sausages or anything like that. One of the staff was a "Karen", so disappointing. I brought my psychiatric service dog. First of all, there is no need to know what illness I have, but I have night terrors (which I did not tell the hotel because I don't have to), so I only require the service of my PSA at night. During the day, my mom was taking care of her as I had work and couldn't take her with me. The staff then gave my mom a hard time saying "she can't be pet!" when someone asked (which was ok, since my PSA was "off-duty" ) and she also said "why didn't your daughter take the dog with her to work if she is her service animal?" with attitude... First of all, mind your own business, second of all, the hotel did not ask me for my letter from my psychiatrist (which CANNOT be bought, so different from emotional support animal), and my PSA has a licensed tag issued by the county which also requires the signed letter from my doctor. I understand that many people have tried to "fake" it to be able to bring their pet and not have to pay, but I have a legitimate clinically diagnosed reason and PROOF for it. So next time, ask for the proper documentation, have it on file, and don't give your guests a hard time. Not all service dogs are the same, and what you see is not the whole picture. Respect that please.…
